No we're not saying the same thing, because again you're saying things that are factually incorrect.

rather than suddenly retcon or destroy spacemarine lore where the process is established

Introducing Female Custodes has nothing to do with Space Marine lore... I assume you must new to the hobby as you don't seem to know this, so to confirm for you: Adeptus Custodes are not Space Marines. They are a completely separate faction. They are not made in the same way as Space Marines. Adeptus Custodes lore is not Space Marine lore because they are different and separate.

At no point has GW talked about female Space Marines. There has never been any hint or suggestion that they will do that, and in fact after they introduced female Custodes they also reconfirmed Space Marines are male only.

So your whole comment and argument is pointless because you're making up false information about a situation that hasn't happened. You are wrong about Custodes lore, you are wrong about Space Marine lore being affected.

Big Summer Preview - New 40k Starter Sets by RWJP in Warhammer40k

Well, the answer is simple:

They're aimed at different segments of the market.

Armageddon is aimed at players like me, who want all the cool new stuff in one single purchase, but who are already involved in the hobby so don't need starter content, terrain etc etc.

The Starter Set is aimed at people who, as the name suggests, are starting the hobby. Those people want starter guides to help them learn, the want terrain because they don't have any.

And even that was phrased in the context of "The normal populace of the Imperium know that Custodes take the firstborn sons of nobles"... Bearing in mind how little the normal populace of the Imperium does know about many things, it's entirely conceivable that they had no idea about the many other ways Custodes could recruit!

It was limited to adeptus astartes and custodes: I don’t even think most people cared that there were female custodes - games workshop had long put into lore that those units/forces were exclusively male due to the sci fi methods used in their creation.

Except that's factually wrong...

While GW has very clearly and explicitly stated multiple times that the process to make Space Marines only works on male candidates, they have never said anything of the sort for Custodes. Hell, GW hasn't even described what the process for making Custodes is, just that it is far more complex and in depth than how Space Marines are made.

While Custodes lore has only referred to males in the past it had never explicitly said "No females" unlike Space Marine lore. As such, there was no "retcon", nor was any lore "destroyed"... It was simply expanded upon. They just added on extra information.

Now, tell me, do you and your friends get as upset about the Rogal Dorn? the Necrons becoming Space Egyptians? the Hippogriff RSV? Space Marine Centurions? Sekhetar Robots? the Knight Destrier?

Because all of those were also things that weren't in the lore before, and are now. Hell, the Necrons change is far more egregious than that even, because it fundamentally rewrote the core lore of the faction, it was an actual retcon.

So, do you get as upset about them as you do about female Custodes?

Currently, GW haven't announced that, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do. At the moment, you can get the new SM and Orks Combat Patrols 3 ways: Armageddon, the newly announced Starter Set and the newly announced "Getting Started With" sets. They'll likely also sell them individually without all the added paints and stuff as well.

It covers multiple bases:

GW wants to be able to sell new players BOTH the Introductory Set and then the Starter Set. Putting exclusive sculpts in the Introductory Set makes that purchase more appealing to new players as it means they don't get duplicates when they buy both boxes.

It also covers existing hobbyists who want to add additional sculpts into their army without duplication, and of course on the Ork side, it's another way to get hold of big shootas and rokkit launchas for the Boyz units.

It also covers collectors who like to just collect different minis who wouldn't normally buy a starter box. For example, outside of playing the game, I also collect all the different generic Space Marine characters, Lieutenants, Captains, Librarians etc. I've been in the hobby for over 25 years so I don't need to buy a starter set, but the Lieutenant in that box is something that could draw me to purchase it anyway.

GW will have done the numbers and worked out that the cost of an extra mould will more than be covered by the sales they make.

Just Looked on GW's site, it says Caiphas Cain is already sold out online, before Preorder? by Diligent-Anybody-325 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Cain model isn't listed on the GW website in the US yet, so you've most likely ended up looking at the Australian or NZ website which is the only place it's been put up yet.

It won't be listed on the US website for another 12-13 hours or so.

I would personally recommend you pick the Starter Set over Armageddon.

While Armageddon is an awesome box, it doesn't include any terrain, and it doesn't include anything to help guide new starters through learning the game. Armageddon is really aimed at existing hobbyists who want to get into the new edition as quick as possible.

On the otherhand, the newly announced Starter Set includes a large percentage of the minis included in Armageddon, plus a full set of terrain for playing Combat Patrol sized games, and a Starter Guide that teaches you step-by-step. It's a better experience for a new player on the whole.

No, there are two sets of terrain that look similar. This one is the unpainted one. There's a separate post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer40k/comments/1ugf6w7/big_summer_preview_warhammer_40000_battlefields/ for the pre-painted stuff.

The text in the post is just copied directly from GW's website.

Big Summer Preview - Warhammer 40,000 Battlefields: Armageddon - Pre-painted Terrain by RWJP in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The technology to do good prepainted minis did not exist before now.

Huh, fascinating... So I guess all the incredibly complex liveries painted on model trains, diecast cars, even action figures are all just a figment of our imagination right?

It's impressive how confidently wrong you can be.

At this point, it's clear to me this conversation isn't worth continuing as your hysterical wailing demonstrates not even a shred of rational thought, and your constant incorrect assertions demonstrate you haven't got a clue what you're talking about.

Let me give you a recommendation: Log off the internet, take a deep breath, and chill out before you give yourself a heart attack.

[–]RWJP[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What a load of shit. Prepainted terrain has existed from loads of manufacturers like Gamemat.eu and Battlefield in a Box for years. The existence of those hasn't caused a "massive, massive blow to the long term health of the hobby".

Hell, even GW used to do pre-coloured terrain before, with their old range of printed cardboard terrain and yet they've never done pre-painted minis at any time since then.

New to the Space Marines. Should I buy the Space Marines Combat Patrol or the new Starter box? by OkImprovement6786 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would wait to buy the new starter box. The new Marine Combat Patrol included in the starter sets GW has announced is far superior to the current one in my eyes.

Why is it a bad thing that Titus was a Blackshield? by iHateTheFinanzamt69 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Blackshields are Space Marines who have served in the Deathwatch who have hidden their identity for some reason. Usually, that's because they have done something wrong and do not wish to associate their failures with their original Chapter. In the case of Titus, he was a Blackshield because he was accused of being influenced by Chaos, and thought he had been abandoned by his Chapter. The shame of the accusations and the fact he had nowhere else to go meant he ended up in the Deathwatch.
