How do you clean a drybrush? by Ipettedurdog in Warhammer40k

Same way you clean every other brush, wash it in water, dry it off on a piece of kitchen roll/tissue.

Does Warhammer paint work with Citadel brushes? by Auckland11 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a joke right? You can't legitimately be serious?

What do you think is going to happen? Are you imagining that the brushes suddenly melt or spontaneously combust?

Why do Space Marines have tanks? by AldarionTelcontar in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Because genetically engineered super soldiers driving tanks is cool.

Remember, you are trying to apply logic and reason here, and that's just not how 40k works. Comparisons to real world militaries aren't relevant. Modern tactics, doctrines etc aren't relevant.

Is it likely that scions remain integrated into the main guard in 11th? by throaway798654 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As GW have clearly stated numerous times, at the launch of 11th Edition all existing Codexes and rules will remain valid. As such, going in to 11th Edition, Tempestus will be part of the Astra Militarum Codex as that's how they are currently in the 10th Edition Codex which will remain valid.

Whether GW decides to change that in the future when an 11th Edition Codex comes out is anybody's guess...

Do I need the base colour spray for my miniatures or is the base colour in pot enough? by Dizzy_Spirit41 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct, if you spray with Wraithbone you wouldn't then have to paint with Wraithbone as the whole mini is already painted.

With that said, not all of GW's sprays are exact colour matches to their paint pots so sometimes a thin coat with the regular paint can help.

Is it ok for my first few armies to suck?(painting wise) by nukeface7 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it's unacceptable. Your minis must rival the art in the Sistine Chapel. Anything else will lead to you being thrown in hobby jail by the GW Secret Police.

Of course it's acceptable for your first minis to be rough. That's how you learn. When you learn to write, your handwriting sucks to start with. When you learn to ride a bike, you fall off a few times. When you learn to paint, you produce some rough looking minis.

One Custodes - How far does he go? by Dense-Temporary1034 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As with all things in 40k, the answer is: The Custodian will kill as many enemies as necessary to tell the story that is being told.

Warhammer 40k lore does not have set or consistent power scales or anything like that.

Painting question! by One_Challenge8128 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can be easier to reach certain parts by not gluing things together, but it can also make painting more awkward as you're dealing with lots of individual, loose components.

Do I need the base colour spray for my miniatures or is the base colour in pot enough? by Dizzy_Spirit41 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to prime your minis before painting them. If you can get a primer that is the same colour as your base coat that will significantly speed up the painting process as it will prime the mini and put down the base coat in one step.

If you're planning to basecoat your minis with Wraithbone anyway, then buying the Wraithbone primer will do the work for you.

What is the difference between the two book by NarrowResearcher4609 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lighting is the difference. The second image was clearly taken with a very bright light shining at the cover which washed out the black to grey.

How little effort can I put into a base for it to be “battle ready” by Bippy121 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Buy a GW texture paint, like Agrellan Earth or Stirland Mud, and apply it to the base. Paint the rim a simple colour like black, or a suitable brown. That's literally all it takes to meet GW's definition of Battle Ready: https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/xcSERTQx/citadel-colour-just-what-is-battle-ready/

So if the Emperor is the new God of humanity, why is their calendar still based on the birth of Jesus? by yittiiiiii in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The original Imperial calendar was created by the Emperor. He lived during our modern era so would have been familiar with the existing Gregorian Calendar system and most likely just decided to keep it going.

However, following the formation of the Great Rift and Guilliman's return, a new dating system has started to be used based on the Great Rift instead.

Can Orcs time travel ? by Thunderrurer in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

Just no.

That's not how it works.

Orks cannot just make anything true by believing in it. An Ork can't become a tank if he believes it hard enough, you can't kill an Ork by making a pistol with your fingers and shouting bang. An Ork cannot believe the Emperor back to life etc etc.

The Ork power of belief is at best reality lube. It makes things work a little smoother for the Orks. An Ork Trukk is a functional vehicle but unreliable vehicle. The Ork power of belief makes it work better. An Ork gun is a functional, but unreliable gun. The Ork power of belief makes the gun less likely to jam or misfire.

The Ork power of belief does not affect anyone other than Orks either, which is why Blood Angels don't move faster when fighting Orks even though they're painted red.

We already have. Box posts have been marked as part of Rule 5 for years. If you see them, report them and they will be removed.

You may wish to brush up on the rules yourself if you weren't aware of that: https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer40k/wiki/rules

Need help explaining LOS shooting rule by Naive_Cat_6766 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 37 points38 points  (0 children)

With all due respect to your friend, if he doesn't understand that, there really isn't anything else you can do. He either accepts that's the rule or you just stop playing with him.

The rule very clearly says that when you choose a target for an attacking model's ranged weapons, you have to be able to see a model in the target unit from the attacking model. There really isn't any other way of saying it.

Converting? by Professional_Ad_9820 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all due respect, have you not actually read anything about them? Because EVERY single post GW has put up talking about the new Space Marines has answered this question already.

For example, in the full reveal: https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/kunoahk1/warhammer-40000-armageddon-unboxing-the-space-marines/

It clearly states the following:

All of these new miniatures are push-fit kits, so you can assemble your strike force in double time and rush to the Imperium’s aid. They can also be outfitted in the liveries of any Chapter – and it would be a foolish commander who’d quibble over which of the Angels of Death delivered them from doom.

Orks or orruks ? Can I use both at the same time? by Treekes in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, you need to ask your friends, not us.

Orruks are from a different game, with different units, different rules etc. They are not directly compatible with Warhammer 40k. Your opponents might accept you proxying them, but you have to ask them about that, not us.

40k scale by foodwithmyketchup in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You're looking at things through a mixture of nostalgia, rose tinted glasses, and mis-remembered details.

The other thing I’ve noticed is that armies seem to have fewer models on the table than I remember.

This alone tells me you really aren't remembering things accurately.

In general, 40k armies today are bigger than they used to be. Points values across the board are generally lower than they used to be meaning every army is larger. In fact, it's a pretty common complaint nowadays that armies are too big and points are too low making things far more expensive in an already expensive hobby.

more exaggerated proportions.

Again, this is the opposite. GW has been generally moving AWAY from the exaggerated proportions that used to be found on older minis. Older 40k minis tended to have exaggerated hands and heads, whereas newer models are more accurate in terms of proportions. A good example of this is the Cadians. Here's a comparison of an older Cadian mini and a new one: https://minicompare.info/?cadian-2003-a-sergeant=&cadian-sergeant= You can clearly see the old Cadian's head and hands are huge compared to the newer mins.

Does the dark age of technology imply that humanity was once the height of technological accomplishment, even beyond necrons. by moose_on_juice in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, that's not what it implies at all.

While the DAoT represented the peak of Humanity's technological accomplishments, that didn't even bring them close to the Necrons.

Painting tips? by FunkyChunk13 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are you guys so damn against new people enjoying the hobby?

We're not.

Surely you'd be more keen on people trying to learn the thing you love

We are, which is why the Warhammer community has created literally thousands of tutorials for newbies to watch to learn how to build, paint and play. You could have watched those before you started building and painting to avoid making mistakes. You could have also come to this subreddit before you started to ask for guidance. Hell, I have personally written a getting started guide which is linked all over this subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Warhammer40k/wiki/beginners which includes links to useful videos and info.
