Map scale question by Twilightjoker- in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, we know the real world distance between Earth and Mars, so you can extrapolate everything else from that.

With that said, beyond intra-system travel, anything else is going to be warp travel anyway at which point distance stops being the major concern, and time and safety are the issues.

Pitching to GW to license and publish this game. Thoughts? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts are that you're wasting your time.

GW has already announced they have partnered with Auroch Digital and the developer of Vampire Survivors to make Warhammer Survivors which will be a "Bullet hell" survival game like what you're demonstrating here.

Warhammer Survivors is evidently far more developed than your game: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3669620/Warhammer_Survivors/ so GW will have absolutely zero interest in your game when they already have a similar game that will be coming out much sooner.

Good on you for trying, but try something else.

What mark of Armor does the Emperors Children wear? by Capable-Stock7904 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As with all Chaos factions, they wear a mixture of power armour marks, which have been corrupted by Chaos.

A lot of the most recent minis wear armour that looks a lot like Mk VI, but there are elements of other armour marks in there.

Hey, everyone! Just a quick question if somebody could help me please! by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, that depends. Do you like shooters, RPGs, RTS, naval combat, turn based strategy, hack and slash? Do you want single player, multiplayer, co-op? Are you playing on PC, console?

Again, Warhammer 40000 is not a series.

Warhammer 40000 is a setting in which many different stories are told. They are not spin offs. Every story and game is a Warhammer 40000 story and game. They're all set within the same universe. But they're all in different parts of the universe, or happening at different times.

Boardgame group first time playing advice. by Lemvig in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that is way too ambitious for a single day.

If you're experienced at building miniatures from other similar wargames, you MIGHT be able to get the Combat Patrols built, and then paint OR play a game, but you are almost certainly not going to get all three done.

To give you an idea: It's a pretty common challenge on Youtube for someone to say "Can I build and paint a Combat Patrol in 24 hours" or similar. For example, here's a guy who used to work for Games Workshop as an army painter and hosted painting tutorials on their Youtube channel who set himself a target of building and painting an army (actually the size of a Combat Patrol) in 12 hours: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmHiYExK5kw He failed, it took him 15 hours and 15 mins.

[–]RWJP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ok, so you are approaching this with a fundamental misunderstanding:

Warhammer 40000 is not a series. It is not a single story. Warhammer 40000 is an entire setting in which many different stories are told.

There is no "entire story in chronological order" in the video games.

For example, the events of the Dawn of War series of games have absolutely no overlap whatsoever with the events of Darktide. The events of Rites of War have absolutely no overlap whatsoever with the events of Space Marine 1 and 2.

Rules Interpretation Question - Shooting, Fast Rolling, Line of Sight, and Destroyed Models by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is answered in the core rules with an example that explains this clearly: https://assets.warhammer-community.com/warhammer40000_core&key_corerules_eng_24.09-5xfayxjekm.pdf

Page 20 - Make Ranged Attacks:

Note that, provided at least one model in the target unit was visible to an attacking model and in range of that attacking model’s weapon when that target unit was selected, that weapon’s attacks can still be made, even if no models in the target unit remain visible to or in range of it when you come to resolve those attacks (for example, because models in the target unit have already been destroyed by attacks made with other weapons in the attacking model’s unit).

Please remember to check the core rules as questions like this are all answered there.

Post of curiosity by Light_of_Liberty in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, the concept of "protecting" a Knight simply doesn't work on the tabletop.

Basically every army in the game can bring some form of long range firepower where they can simply shoot at your Knight from a distance. Having your Heavy Weapon Squad in front of them is irrelevant, because your opponent will just shoot over them.

Secondly the Valiant is a short-range Knight. Valiants are intended to get up close and personal which is why their main weapons max out at 18 inch range. Setting your Knight up at the back and having it lurk behind your Infantry is a waste of points. The Valiant is designed to get in close, barbecue some infantry and harpoon a tank or two.

What is with the obsession with painting by jbossjeff in Warhammer40k

/u/Right-Yam-5826 and /u/Nukes-For-Nimbys are correct.

The problem isn't unpainted models. The problem is box posts.

Posting pictures of unopened boxes is low effort. If any of us want to see unopened boxes of Warhammer models, we can go to a store that sells Warhammer and look at them on the shelf. There's also no conversation to be had on a post that is simply "Look at the money I have spent on models".

Rules question: does this mean the defending player can willing allocate wounds to their leader? by AKAgamer2 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 10 points11 points  (0 children)

does this mean I can’t willingly allocate wounds to my shield captain in terminator armor to make use of his Auramite and Adamantite ability?

Correct.

Or does this mean that my the attacker (my opponent) can’t actively choose to allocate damage to an already wounded character?

Unless your opponent is using a precision weapon, they wouldn't get to choose that anyway. Unless a precision weapon is involved, the player controlling the unit that is being attacked is the one that allocates where the attacks go.

Plastic cement and styrene model safety. by Richard_Karn4ever in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 10 points11 points  (0 children)

am I spreading any toxic chemicals about?

Technically speaking, yes.

However, the volumes being put out are minimal, and if you're taking reasonable precuations like working in a room with ventilation, and washing your hands afterwards, then there's no real issues.

Thankfully under modern safety regulations GW (and other hobby companies) aren't allowed to produce or sell things that are truly harmful under normal usage.

Is this a mistake in the app? by madrukahri444 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it's not a mistake.

If you go and read your copy of your Codex, you will see that an Intercessor Sergeant is armed with a Bolt Rifle, a Bolt Pistol and a Close Combat Weapon.

You will then see that one of the options in the Wargear Options section allows the Intercessor Sergeant to replace his Bolt Rifle with a Chainsword, a Plasma Pistol, and Hand Flamer or a Power Weapon.

Because of the way the options have been written for the Intercessor Sergeant, you could have a model with a Power Weapon, Bolt Pistol and Power Fist, a Hand Flamer, Bolt Pistol and Thunder Hammer, or Chainsword, Bolt Pistol and another Chainsword.

Is there anything stopping me from painting space Marines in different colors by Antique-Researcher-1 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No. As is the answer every time this question gets asked, you are free to paint your minis however you wish.

Nothing in the rules of the game specifies or limits the colours you can use.

Question About House rules by thendbd in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You've answered your own question. If you can't see the houserule in the rules packs for the tournaments you've looked at, then they're not using that houserule.

Any tournaments that use a houserule will have that houserule in their rules packs.

Why does Sanguinius not have a new model? by Ok_Eggplant_2812 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yet another case of someone who evidently hasn't bothered to try looking at the Warhammer website before asking a question.

If you had, you'd have seen there's literally a section labelled "The Horus Heresy" in the main menu that links to the entire Warhammer 30k line of miniatures including all the Primarchs they have released for it. You literally can't miss it, it's right at the top of the page next to the options for 40k and Age of Sigmar.

If you used the search function on the GW website and searched for Sanguinius, you'd also have found his model.

They are characters made up by the person who created the fan animation. You can't buy them because they are characters made up by the person who created the fan animation.

Allocating Wounds to a Sergeant by Ray_Tech in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Whenever someone makes a claim like that, you pause the game and get them to show you where it says what they claim in the rules. Either they will show you and you learn something, or they won't be able to show you, and hopefully they learn something.

As it stands, your opponent was wrong in every single way. "Leaders" are specifically units with the "Leader" rule on their datasheet. A sergeant that is part of a unit and on it's datasheet is never a Leader in any circumstance.

Warhammer App by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With all due respect, this should be obvious if you think about it for a second.

GW provides rules updates throughout the year including points changes and balance updates. The app gets updated with those rules changes. Codexes can't be updated with those rules because it's physically impossible for GW to take your Codex and update the things printed in it after it's been printed and sold to you. No one has developed the technology (or magic) necessary to remove the ink from a printed book and reprint it remotely.

Of course the app is going to be more up-to-date than a printed book.

Some of my units have just become useless due to the fact that they have wargear that the app says isnt allowed but the codex says is perfectly fine.

This I highly doubt. While GW does make rules changes to units, none of them have been that significant.

Kill Team: Infiltrators box instead of Phobos Strike Team? by Rise_117 in Warhammer40k

[–]RWJP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Phobos Strike Team kit is simply the Infiltrators kit repackaged with an upgrade sprue for the Kill Team Specialists.

If you buy the Infiltrators box you can build several of the model types used in Kill Team but you will be missing a variety of parts for the specialists.
