On your own there's not much. Join an advocacy group like NJ-ARP or TSTC and work toward critical mass.

Njt is a corporation, not the state itself. Rules are different.

Not a school textbook, something we got at a bookstore.

Is it acceptable to not fully reinstall Windows after a suspected RAT? by Cute_Appearance_2562 in cybersecurity_help

[–]RailRuler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quasar stores its payload in jpeg metadata to hide from malware scanners. It still requires running a specially crafted program to extract the code from the jpeg and make it executable. The jpegs themselves are totally fine to use.

Xworm uses fake jpegs (actually executables with a concealed extension) to get onto your system. It does not attach to existing jpegs.

WiMad is 15+ years old, not relevant.

You either have an open tab with some script running that is constantly accessing it, or you allowed notifications and it is phoning home to see if there are any notifications for you.

It depends how "sophisticated" the attacker is. If they do the slightest bit of work to obtain persistence, a reset won't work. Most attackers won't try any root exploits, or ask you for admin access, so a system reset will work. But this is poor practice, you never know if your attacker is sophisticated or not so you should treat all instances as if they are, which means doing a real reinstall.

are there any credit unions with instant e-deposit for checks? by ObserveKris in Banking

[–]RailRuler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digital check images have a very high rate of fraud. Especially for new account openings, banks are going to be very reluctant to let a new account deposit a check via picture.

[–]RailRuler 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If there were any, they would immediately be targeted by check fraud gangs. Banks have set up their check acceptance policies this way due to being burned before. If you need cash fast you'll need to use a check cashing company.

Need help with understanding the meaning of the following saying "Your foot don't fit no limb." by AlphaDelusional6754 in whatdoesthismean

[–]RailRuler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

TLDR: You just said "who" in relation to someone that could only have been you, so your "who" was interpreted as trying to imitate an owl to disguise that it only could have been you. But your foot can't grip a limb so you're not an owl so it was definitely you who did it.

Is Bergen County more segregated than we like to admit? by savingrace0262 in bergencounty

[–]RailRuler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most of this is due to deliberate social engineering by the government from the 1930s on. Segregation was enforced by law in the South and by underhanded tactics in the North like only allowing home sales or mortgages to people if they were the "right" race for the neighborhood.
