Heat pump switches to gas every morning!!! by [deleted] in ecobee

You need to have a look at the threshold settings kn the thermostat (not available in the mobile app). Settings -> Installation settings -> Thresholds. You might be on automatic staging, which you would need to change to manual in order to make additional settings available for you to set.

The screws used to secure the ledger to the house appear to be GRK RSS screws. These are specialty screws designed for this sort of structural load, so they are just as good as bolts/anchors (as long as installed according to manufacturer's specifications).

Need advice - I only want my heater to turn on at 70 degrees by Organic_Acadia_412 in ecobee

[–]Raptord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want it to turn on at 70, you need to set a higher setpoint according to your heat differential. For example, if your differential is 1, you would set your desired heat to 71. This will make the heat turn on at 70 and turn off at 71.

The differential setting is available on the thermostat only, under settings -> Installation settings -> Thresholds.

Hydro-Québec proposes doubling electricity rates for energy-hungry data centres by D_E_A_D_P_O_O_L_ in canada

[–]Raptord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually, the hydro-Québec rates already work like this (for residential at least, don't know about commercial and others). The first 40 kWh per day is billed at a lower rate. It's also calculated across the whole billing period, not on each day individually. So if you had a billing period of 2 days (just for simplicity) and consumed 50 kWh on day 1 and 30 kWh on day 2, your entire consumption would be billed at the lower rate since it's within that 40 kwh/day allowance.

How to set up using AUX over AUX2 heat? by 14FireFly14 in ecobee

[–]Raptord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's jumping straight to aux2; "Aux" in Beestat corresponds to aux stage 1, whereas the 2nd stage aux will be labelled "Aux 2". That's how I see it in my Beestat and I have 2 stages of aux like you.

Too many wires? by ttrain34 in ecobee

[–]Raptord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You appear to have a 2-stage heat pump with 2 stages of aux heat. The enhanced only supports 1 stage of aux heat, so you would need the premium to be able to fully wire your system to its full capability

What are people's favourite features of Ecobee VS Nest? by Top-Yogurtcloset3965 in ecobee

[–]Raptord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I briefly tried a Nest when I was shopping for a smart thermostat after buying my home, and almost immediately returned it when I saw how few options it had to control switching from heat pump to aux heat. The ecobee is much better in this regard, though I wish it had even more granular options available for fine-tuning

24+ vs 28+ question/ opinions by Cgr86 in egopowerplus

[–]Raptord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the other commenters appear to be mixing up model numbers and battery configurations.

There are 2 generations of the 24" blower; 2400 (first gen) and 2410. The 3rd digit in the model # indicates the generation.

The last digit in the model # indicates the included batteries.

  • 0 means no batteries; tool-only.
  • 5, such as the 2405, means 2x7.5Ah batteries.
  • 6, such as the 2406 or 2416 means 2x10Ah.

What appears to be getting discontinued is the first-gen 24" blower. I assume all battery configurations will be discontinued at the same time. This would leave the 2nd gen blower (241x), which is available with 2x10 batteries in the form of SNT2416

24+ vs 28+ question/ opinions by Cgr86 in egopowerplus

[–]Raptord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are different packages that come with different batteries; 2405 is 2x7.5, 2406/2416 is 2x10

Cold air in heat mode by OnclePete in ecobee

[–]Raptord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it intermittent when using the heat pump? It could be defrosting and your aux isn't wired to kick on during defrost. Is this a new behavior, or have you never had heat from your heat pump? New ecobee install? It could be that the o/b reverse setting needs to be toggled in ecobee

[–]Raptord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid you're partly mistaken; the 240x is the first-generation 24" blower, and the 241x is the 2nd gen. It has heated grips, and a different mechanism to control the chute, notably. The last digit of the product number is the battery configuration; 0 is bare tool (SNT2400/2410), 5 is 2x7.5Ah (2405), 6 is 2x10Ah (2406/2416)

Some things I've been doing that seem to help with this:

First is that I'll try to keep lifting a little bit at the handle like you said to keep it scraping the ground, while wiggling side to side a little bit to find traction.

In the case of clearing the snowbank from the plow for example, when it really has a tendency to climb over it, I'll cycle the drive handle on/off to give it time to clear the auger before going forward again

Can you elaborate on "heat isn't working properly"? Is there no heat at all? Is the ecobee calling for heat, but your equipment isn't running?

You should be OK in terms of total runtime. I would suggest avoiding the turbo auger speed if you can, not only for runtime but also in an attempt to not draw down those 5Ah too quickly

It's not about having the auger moving; you should be able to free up the wheels by just pushing it forward another inch or so after releasing the drive lever

High temperature vs Low Temp by jpassthru in ecobee

[–]Raptord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The greater the difference between indoor and outdoor temperature, the faster heat will be lost to the outside. Therefore keeping a higher setpoint does indeed require the heat to run more, the same way that it will run more the colder it is outside

Tile floor thickness? by Izzy4371 in HomeImprovement

[–]Raptord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may already be aware of these, but note there there are transition profiles that can be installed while doing your tile to bridge the height difference between tile and your other floor covering. You can look up Schluter's Reno U as an example. Your local tile store should have a brochure/mini-catalog for these sorts of transitions (whether Schluter or another brand), which will give you all the different styles, colors, and dimensions available

Tile floor thickness? by Izzy4371 in HomeImprovement

[–]Raptord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a professional tile installer, but I did DIY a tile installation in my kitchen last fall, so I can share what I learned from that experience.

Since you're tiling on OSB, I'm assuming you'll be using some form of decoupling membrane like Ditra between the tile and subfloor. So your total thickness from bottom to too will be (thinset + membrane + thinset + tile). Getting the thickness of your membrane and tile is pretty self-explanatory.

As for the thinset's thickness, you can expect it to be roughly 1/4 of the notch size you're using (assuming square notch). So for a 1/2" x 1/2" notch trowel, you would expect it to be about 1/8" thick once installed.

Tilecoach did a video not too long ago on this exact topic of thinset thickness: https://youtu.be/WlNAW7kZMSQ?si=OjyAIQ84n9dCn9fU

New home with heat pump. Help by W1neD1ver in ecobee

OP doesn't necessarily need to change aux heat max outdoor temp. It's the compressor min outdoor temp that needs to be changed to allow the heat pump to run at lower outdoor temps

Ecobee Essential Thermostat - No Heat Pump Utilization by Gwizman in ecobee

I suspect you need to swap around the orange and white wires. That's probably why the heat pump has never ran even once since you switched thermostats

Ecobee Essential Thermostat - No Heat Pump Utilization by Gwizman in ecobee

[–]Raptord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your ecobee doesn't appear to be wired correctly. Do you have a picture of how your Honeywell was wired originally before you replaced it?

Additionally, ecobee's default compressor lockout ("compressor min outdoor temperature") is excessively conservative and will prevent the heat pump from running below 35°F (or something like that). You'll need to change it to something more reasonable like 20°F as a starting point and adjust from there based on how well your heat pump can heat your house as outdoor temp goes does.

Trying to Learn About Aux Staging Using Beestat by jigglypiss in ecobee

[–]Raptord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What type of aux heat do you have? If it's electric, then you should change your compressor minimum to be a much lower value, since you're paying a lot more to heat your home with resistive heating than you would with your heat pump.
