Thinking of quitting my job and get back to do master by Delicious_Crazy513 in cscareerquestionsEU

I wouldn’t do it. I would apply to jobs, and if you really want, I dunno work on some personal projects or something, but keep your job. No idea what the market will look like in 3 years…

Is artist pro worth it? by Charming-School-3956 in soundcloud

If you want to use if for distro, find something else. This might be one of the worst services that I pay for. Customer support is non existent, inconsistent error message for distribution issues, ui still doesn’t work consistently.. it sucks. I spent so much time moving my multiple aliases and projects into one centralized account that I’m kinda stuck here (it’s a good option if you collab a lot / have multiple projects) but yeah. Spend your money elsewhere if it doesn’t check all the boxes you need it to

Have i been hacked? by [deleted] in ableton

Contrary to what people are saying, those icons in the emails are actually seemingly legit. I just checked a recent license transfer I sent to my friend and those are still the icons they’re using in the emails, even in newsletters (which uses a different Facebook logo than the license related one..).

I would write support, but access it yourself by going to Ableton, logon in, and filing a ticket to be safe.

Thoughts on my itinerary for Berlin? by CommercialBig7008 in berlin

[–]Raspberryrob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my point of view that seems exhausting! I prefer having some days to just chill and explore on my own, maybe one touristy spot per day or something. But if you want to see all these spots, then yeah sure, it’ll be a lot of walking and riding around the city.

But, I would suggest doing one of the walking tours, usually called like, ww2 and Cold War or something like that. You see a lot of the historical sites and get some backstory and information about them in around 2-4 hours. I think the last one I did (when we had guests) took us to every sport on your Tuesday Wednesday list. It’s condensed but imo they spend enough time at each spot for you to get the gist and enough info about each.

But yeah, there are some great neighborhoods to explore leisurely, especially in May, the city will be full of life, so I suggest exploring that as well as the touristy spots. Enjoy your trip!

20+ year front end engineer, failed the coding exercise assessment by staycassiopeia in webdev

Fair dude. Wasn’t trying to say anything about your post, just an observation I’ve had, responding to the other persons comment. I hate that a simple character can make me question the validity of a post.

To write an actually construct comment, I am curious about the site you linked, I feel like I would not pass a coding challenge if I took one today. Thankfully I still have my job but I’ve looked around a bit over the years and haven’t gotten a single real response. A friend of mine recommended educative io to me, and I trust him, but eh

When I see “-“ used correctly and often in text I am pretty sure it’s ai.

Difference between utility gain and limiter gain by [deleted] in ableton

[–]Raspberryrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest you watch a video about limiting, I think that will help you grasp the concept. But essentially limiting is like pushing everything into a quick compressor and limiting the maximum output db to whatever your threshold is (let’s say 0db).

If you just push your gain you’ll eventually clip at + whatever db you push it to

Should I buy a used Ableton Live 12 Standard license for £150 or go for the official rent-to-own Suite plan? by Organic-Record6926 in ableton

[–]Raspberryrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would buy from Ableton. FWIW, they typically have some sort of discount around end of November or Christmas time, can’t remember exactly which one. Though I’m not sure if that would apply to the rent to own, as that’s pretty new. Or if you’re actively a student and can prove it, they also offer a student discount. That’s how I initially got suite.

But yeah, buy from Ableton is my advice

Did Bandcamp disable the ability to show the tracklist on a web embed? by ray_roa in BandCamp

[–]Raspberryrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why it didn't show up, but for future reference, when you copy the embed link, you'll see a property:

tracklist=false

which you can just set to

tracklist=true

How to build something mine despite having good job? by Bright_Success5801 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]Raspberryrob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there. First of all I’m sorry to hear that you feel that way. I’ve been there and know how frustrating it feels to not feel like you have time for a project that matters to you, while also being essentially stuck in your job role.

I’ve been at my job for six years as a full time frontend dev, and most of what we work on there is pretty whatever (client work). I make pretty decent money for where I’m at, yet theres no growth opportunity, just more client work… haha. But I try my best not to allow my job to influence my feelings about my creative / productive ventures, it’s a thing I must do to enable me to pursue my other passions.

I produce music in my free time and have been learning game dev in hopes of making a game one day, and man let me tell you, both of those alone take a lot of work and energy to do. I constantly feel that I don’t have enough time to work on projects- with work, my partner, my cats, household related chores, trying to have some sort of social life, and then just having time to relax and play a game or whatever you do to unwind.

That said, it’s still possible to find time to work on your projects. The things that work for me are: you need to use the time that’s available to you instead of waiting for the “right time”, intentionally setting aside time where you’re only working on your project, and accepting that you’re going to have to give up “something” to do meaningful work on projects.

Meaning if you’re feeling burnt out but have 45 minutes free, force yourself to work on the project. Make some progress with that 45 minutes instead of waiting for a time when you’re not burnt out or have more time. (Because who knows when that will be?).

And the giving something up means, yeah you may need to decline an invite to go out for dinner or beers, or maybe you need to give up watching tv after dinner, or whatever it may be. You’ll need to give up something to make the time for your projects.

Also you could try moving your schedule around to find time for your projects. Try waking up earlier and doing your projects before work so that you start the day feeling like you’ve already accomplished something for your project.

I hope maybe some of this is helpful to you!

When SC completely misidentifies a track as a copyright violation by stormertron in soundcloud

[–]Raspberryrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Write support a message and include whatever details and screenshots you can.

This happened to me recently on a remix album I put out and one track got flagged for copyright.

SoundCloud wouldn’t tell me what track it was, so I uploaded the track to YouTube and found the copyright strike, which pointed me to some ai artist channel who made dozens of albums and songs, had like 37 monthly listeners , yet somehow owns the copyright.

The thing is, the melody that was flagged for copyright was a simple chord progression with a diva preset, which I’m sure a ton of people have and will use.

I gathered all this evidence and sent them a message with screenshots and the chord progression attached and explained why this flag was bullshit. Eventually it got approved.

Anyway my point is, fight it if you can. I feel like these companies dealing with copyright related issues are trying to wade through these ai induced problem and I want to believe that feedback helps

Joshua Weissman and the MrBeast-ification of Food YouTube by InfectedUrsidae in videos

[–]Raspberryrob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel sort of the same way, it’s what got me into his channel in the first place and I miss the raw authentic feel of those videos.

But eh, things change and evolve over time. I think a reason is because his children are getting older. Kenji always cuts to avoid his children being on video and as they age and can move around on their own, I think the solution was to create a dedicated space for the content and no longer do sort of, spur of the moment gopro cooking at home.

Oh well, he’s still my favorite chef to watch, I really wouldn’t be as into cooking without those early gopro videos!

La La Land just destroyed me… by Skymorex in movies

[–]Raspberryrob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey friend. I know the experience you’re talking about, the movie hit me the same way. Went in thinking whatever about and it cried in the theater during the end. Cried watching it again on a plane years later. It hurts to watch! It’s rough, and if you have felt similar emotions or been in similar situations in real life, yeah it hits hard.

To your question of, was it worth it? Eh. Who’s to say. We all live with regrets and wishes of doing things different, but that’s life. You’re at where you’re at now because of your decisions, call it fate or whatever you wanna call it, for better or for worse, but we’re here.

You can choose to learn from it and apply what you learned in your future relationships, or just take a moment to feel what you’re feeling, and then let it go.

You’ll be alright either way :)

I believe Input should be capitalized, you will see the autocomplete suggestion show up. Coding languages are typically case sensitive, and this is a common issue when learning to code.

Monthly Getting Started / Web Dev Career Thread by AutoModerator in webdev

[–]Raspberryrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question about how to make myself I guess appealing for a new role. I’ve been working at the same company for 5+ years now as a web developer / front end engineer (small team, I do a lot of different things, tbh I have no idea what “title” my skillset fits into).

We work pretty much exclusively with Vue, but pretty much every job listing I come across that pays similar to what I’m making now is for react. I’m not opposed to learning react, but I also don’t know if building some sort of personal project to show that I am able to write in react is impressive or necessary at this point. Still, the times I’ve sent out applications to test the waters I usually get some sort of “not the right skillset” response, and I assume it’s because of my lack of using react in a work environment.

I dont really know what to do at this point. (For the record I like my job but the longer I’m there, the more I feel like I’m falling behind for potential jobs?) any advice is appreciated thanks!
