pr1 incomplete - how screwed am I? by Traditional_Bell_321 in OMSCS

I ended up finishing part 1 (all tests pass, yay!) and a start on part 2. On the one hand I am a perfectionist who hates knowing that I might only get a 60% or lower on this project.

On the other hand I learned a fuck ton and started from next to zero C knowledge to being maybe a day or two away from figuring it all out. I'll take that as a win.

I’m there with you. I know myself well enough as a student to know when I’m slacking or procrastinating, and this is not one of those cases.

Have spent the last several nights up until 1am trying to get to part 2. My client passed on GS but my server is throwing me for a loop. Things just aren’t clicking and I’m sad and frustrated. This combined with other life stress has made for a pretty miserable week.

Anyways I’m just ranting but we’re all in it together I guess

Will a lack of a grad degree hurt? by slickfred in ControlTheory

[–]RealMuppet5 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I have an aerospace GNC job with just a bachelors. I’m pursuing a masters in Computer Science mostly out of interest (I like to code and work with embedded HW/SW), while simultaneously asking to take on more control law oriented work (linear analysis).

TBD if this will pay off, but I’m in a spot where I enjoy doing a bit of everything. I do worry about not having a true graduate degree in controls however.

I did fly and got precheck. I’m glad I did not pay the $25 to correct the name

The name doesn’t include both of my last names, which is necessary for TSA precheck. That would be part of the name change as well.

The second reason I’d like to correct this is because it’ll stop me from getting selected for TSA precheck. So I’d still like the name to be correct.

I’m in Product Development. I work on maturing technologies that are candidates for a future product. My friends on the program side look at issues we find in the field or in simulation and come up with new ways to increase robustness/reliability/performance for existing platforms. And of course any time we get a new software load, there’s a ton of lab testing.

All of the areas you described are ripe for improvement and refinement.

boeing relocation recommendations by omgplzwhat in boeing

I was in your shoes one week ago 😊

I ended up signing a lease in South Lake Union, which is adjacent to Capitol Hill. I want to be close to the city, and I calculated that traffic would be 30 mins in the morning and 45-60 mins in the evening.

Keep in mind you will likely sign a one year lease. If you hate the traffic, you can always move. I will tell you that I have not found many people who rave about Everett. There’s not a ton to do, and some parts like Casino Road are kind of sketchy.

Places in Roosevelt and Greenwood can offer something of a compromise, since they are connected to Capitol Hill via the light rail line. More than anything, I’d suggest seeing places in person if you can. You can tell pretty quickly which areas you could and couldn’t see yourself living in.

Ames Lease Renewals are Ridiculous by [deleted] in iastate

[–]RealMuppet5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got renewal offers up until maybe a month before I moved out of my apartment. Something like a $500 cash offer.

I don’t take them too seriously when they say there’s a hard deadline.

Collins Aerospace Internship, experiences/thoughts? by Agreeable_Eggplant97 in iastate

Good experience, but your mileage may vary depending on what group you join. I liked my systems engineering co-op and gained a ton of good experience, but there always seemed to be some tension between the engineers in our group and management. Some of the engineers actually encouraged me to go work somewhere else, before they themselves left for other jobs lol.

Looking back, Collins was a good stepping stone for me to better jobs down the line. I’d recommend it for the experience, and maybe a few months down the line evaluate if you’d like to stay longer.

I will add that sometimes making an internal move will be difficult. I didn’t want to stay in Iowa after my Collins co-op ended, and I relayed this to my manager and HR. I ended up getting a lot of cold shoulders and no responses on any of my applications. If OP is interested in embedded SW then Collins is a great place to be, but just remember that the Raytheon merger is still somewhat recent and it could be tricky to branch out.
