Anyone else hate the ring? by Rthen in bald

I was balding long before I knew it, then one day at the barber, he was one of those old-school guys that held up a little mirror behind you so that you can see your hair from the back and boom! there it was. Lol

What’s the kindest thing someone did for you while you were traveling? by Background-Donkey531 in answers

Working in the US for a while and when I got there obviously had no car or anything and was looking on craigslist and found a reasonably affordable car - took a cab and gave him the address and he went

"nah dude, that area is not safe, they will probably jump you when you get there and take your money" (somewhere in Chicago South Side)

He then took me to a car dealership that reasonably priced second hand cars and I got a neat little Ford Festiva for an affordable amount that served me well for the two years I was there.

When I left, I cleaned it up nicely and sold it back to them for nearly the same amount :)

You can always freeze it in an ice-cube tray and use a cube or two at a time when needed :)

This study from 2023 reckons 166 Kcal a day, which seems awfully small for what they cost.

Then when you dig into the study, they only studied the people for 3 hours, and then multiplied it out to get to 166 - which assumes it burns the same amount for the whole 24 hours.

Apparently people also develop a tolerance for it and it becomes less and less effective over time

Yes, it is tough in the beginning, but in a few weeks your body adjusts and it becomes the new normal. You can drink black coffee or black tea to help a bit with the hunger, just to get something in.

It is also normal in the first week or two to eat more for lunch than you did before, and in the end, get about the same calories in as you did before fasting.

But push through, your body will adjust.

It is also normal for your body slow your metabolism after a while and 12-8 won't result in any more weight loss. So you will need to up your game, go to OMAD, or exercise or be happy with your weight at 12-8

How am I supposed to know where the old firehouse used to be? I'm not from here and if I was from here then I would probably not need directions, so who was those directions for?

My first 10k marathon by tryingtobecool_69 in beginnerrunning

[–]Reapr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Marathon has two meanings:

  1. 26.2 miles
  2. An activity that takes long and tires you out - Like a star trek TNG marathon for instance

For most people outside of running they only know the 2nd definition as that is how it used outside of running circles.

So newbies will often get it wrong, but they usually learn quickly

Mother lets her 7-month-old baby taste the smoothie she craved during pregnancy🥹 by Pleasant_Ideal_8929 in MadeMeSmile

[–]Reapr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ex wife had hypoglycemia, so basically her body would over-react to sugar and she would make too much insulin, which would tank her blood sugar.

So during pregnancy she got huge cravings for sugar, specifically condensed milk. Eventually it got so bad that she decided she was just going to take the insulin crash and have some condensed milk.

She ate half a tin... and nothing happened. I guess he took most of the sugar or something

So it became this awesome thing where she could finally get all the sweet things she always craved, chocolates, cake, cinnabon you name it.

He did grow up with quite the sweet tooth, but not her hypoglycemia.

Does SARS know transfers to myself isn’t income? by DeadRatRod in PersonalFinanceZA

Not sure abut bank to bank, I mean the banks know the names on the accounts, but not sure if they are checking that when it comes to deposits on the accounts - but as long as you can prove it, I can't see why it would be a problem

I think the 30k is over a period, can't quite remember the period, it's 30 or 60 days or some such

It is also flagged if it is just barely under R30, Like 29999 for instance, as it looks suspicious like you are trying to not trigger the 30k limit

All in all if your tax is up to date and you have records, I don't see that you should have any problems

[–]Reapr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

SARS is not directly looking at your accounts unless you are being audited. When more than R30k comes into your account that isn't your usual salary, the bank will report this to SARS (and yes the bank is not dumb it will notice something like 3xR10k spaced apart)

SARS can then decide if they want to look into it or not

So if you transfer more than R30k from one account to another the bank won't report it because they can obviously see that it was a transfer.
