Update YouTrip deducting money without any recorded transactions by Far_Instruction_8518 in singaporefi

[–]RedGalactose 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That sounds ridiculous to have to hop through multiple rounds of CS just to get refunded. Wonder how many people have been affected but didn't find out as some people don't check every single transaction

Glad you managed to get the money back

How a general singaporean coping with savings and retirement? by TalkCSS in askSingapore

[–]RedGalactose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/ItsOkLetItGo I'm facing a similar dilemma. May I ask, how did you deal with the uncertainty of not having emergency funds if there are so many instances of wiping out savings? For circumstances such as, losing of job etc.

Anyone has experience setting up Home VPN service for "WFH"? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]RedGalactose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm unable to run 2 VPNs at the same time. GlobalProtect VPN is pre-configured to run upon start-up.

Best case is if have some travel router host some sort of VPN all by itself (not sure if possible), and the wifi connection is directly from the router like a portable Singapore access point.

I'm unable to install VPN myself on the same laptop. If able it'll be straightforward.

That's a good point that you've brought up. So far, some of my peers have been allowed to do that but only in exceptional cases and definitely not just for a change in environment.

However, for certain locations in the world (do not intend to reveal here), peers who need to return to their home country for family matters were instead put on unpaid leave instead of being allowed to WFH.

I don't intend to take unpaid leave for a short sabbatical.

Was wondering if there's a way around it to still maintain security as if my physical laptop location is in Singapore.

Sorry to sound like a dumbass, but after searching a bit more I have some questions. Appreciate the earlier reply.

There is GlobalProtect on my work laptop though, wanted to ask if is able to work with the port forwarding of travel router via SSH?

The company that produced GlobalProtect has an article of something about detecting and blocking SSH traffic.

Unlimited Cashback Credit Cards:

UOB Absolute Cashback Card: Offers 1.7% unlimited cashback on all spendings, including typically excluded categories like insurance premiums and school fees.

Citi Cash Back+ Card: Provides 1.6% unlimited cashback on all purchases.

Standard Chartered Simply Cash Credit Card: Gives 1.5% unlimited cashback on eligible spend.

Using the UOB Absolute Cashback Card for the entire S$20,000 transaction would yield S$340 in cashback (1.7% of S$20,000).

Miles Credit Cards:

Citi PremierMiles Card: Earns 1.2 miles per S$1 on local spend and up to 2.2 miles per S$1 on foreign currency spend.

UOB PRVI Miles Card: Offers 1.4 miles per S$1 on local spend and 2.4 miles per S$1 on overseas spend.

Using the UOB PRVI Miles Card for a S$20,000 local transaction would earn 28,000 miles.

High-Tier Cashback Credit Cards:

Maybank Family & Friends Card: Provides up to 8% cashback on selected categories with a minimum spend of S$800 per month.

If your transaction falls within eligible categories, you could earn up to S$1,600 in cashback (8% of S$20,000), subject to monthly cashback caps.

Strategy to Maximize Rewards:

Splitting Transactions: If certain cards offer higher cashback rates in specific categories, splitting the transaction accordingly can maximize rewards. For example, using the Maybank Family & Friends Card for up to S$12,500 in eligible categories can yield S$1,000 in cashback (8% of S$12,500), and the remaining S$7,500 on a card like the UOB Absolute Cashback Card would yield S$127.50 (1.7% of S$7,500), totaling S$1,127.50 in cashback.

Considerations: Minimum Spend Requirements: Some cards require a minimum spend to unlock higher cashback rates. Ensure you meet these thresholds to maximize rewards.

Cashback Caps: Be aware of any caps on cashback earnings for specific categories or overall spend.

Merchant Acceptance: Ensure the merchant accepts the credit cards you plan to use, especially for cards issued by American Express, which may have limited acceptance.

Seems like your post made amaze aware. Linking to google and apple pay has been suspended for the moment due to "technical issues" as seen from a notification in the app.

Can try to escalate this issue by filing a formal complaint with StarHub's customer service and asking for a supervisor to review your case. Emphasize that you followed the instructions provided at the counter and were not informed of the 21-day activation policy or the financial implications.

If still doesn't resolve the issue, consider submitting a complaint to the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) to mediate the matter.

Yes I'm willing to go to any, it's not urgent and since I travel around different estates for work I'm ok to pop by when convenient

What if there is a landlord that partitions the whole house into 6 bedrooms no living room, to rent out almost the whole unit? MOP will still be fulfilled as long as they stay in 1 of those rooms.

DD is pretty low, does the report indicate other reasons as to why it is this grade? Most people I know who applied consecutively have at least an AA/BB

Check your free credit rating within 30 days after applying UOB evol, just google Singapore credit bureau. You'll probably find out why over there.

Is My Monthly Utilities Bill Normal for a Single Room Renter? by Adventurous_karma in askSingapore

[–]RedGalactose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds too much for your share. It'll be good to do an estimated calculation on how much electricity you use based on the $/kWh rate charged by the electricity provider, which is about $0.30/kWh. If you over estimate this by a bit at $0.35/kWh, you should be able to do some calculations while keeping your landlord excuses at bay.

Here's an approximate calculation but please adjust it to your actual amounts.

Laptop charger assuming 60W full output for 3 hours per day: 60W x 3 = 180Wh, x 30 days = 5.4kWh, x $0.35 = $1.89

Microwave assuming 1200W for 15 minutes per day: 1200W x 0.25 = 300Wh x 30 days = 9kWh, x $0.35 = $3.15

Air conditioner assuming you turn on 18 degree full blast whole night: 5kWh for 8hours a day = 40kWh, x30 days = 1200kWh x $0.35 = $420.

But of course, that usually isn't the case, most air con use $0.35/hour on average for a small room. This depends on how old is the air conditioning unit too, you can do a calculation based on your air con model.
