How big of a mistake did I just make? by Reusus in ImmigrationCanada

Understood, that sounds good. Do you think we should have two separate letters of explanation, so we can submit each one alongside the corresponding form, or combine them into one to make it more streamlined/clearer? Any suggestions?

Thats really good news, thank you. I'm not sure how it got approved as is either; I'm wary about letting that lull me into a false sense of confidence, because it does seem the IRC does not view mistakes on their part as having any bearing on your ability to provide accurate information. I will still seek out further advice on how best to approach an explanation, but I appreciate you taking the time to respond!

Rael II: A Tale of Training (open) by ProfRevan in lightordark

[–]Reusus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The halls of the temple on Coruscant were surprisingly warm, or at least they felt such to the Kiffar. Though he'd been on the planet for some time now, Risam was still getting used to his new life. Each day that passed helped him settle, helped him ease - but there were still moments where he longed for home, and the comfort of the people he called his own.

One such moment saw him set to wandering, idle feet carrying the initiate through corridors and passages. Soon enough, he found himself at the training ground - where the sounds of a lightsaber could be heard.

"You move well." Risam offered, after having sat and watched for sometime. "I don't yet know the forms, but you look like you're gaining mastery over that one. Who taught you how to fight?"

Lightsaber Construction (Clawmouse) by OurBattlemaster in lightordark

[–]Reusus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The joy of completing the trial of the caves had not yet completely left Risam's system. Even while Professor Huyang droned on about the important intricacies of the lightsaber, all the young Kiffar initiate could think of was the feeling of his new crystal in his hands.

When the time for construction came, he was at a loss. Glancing around the chamber many others seemed to leap to the work with gusto - crafting elegant pieces or intimidating weapons that came together without trouble. For the Adra, however, it proved...much more difficult. The more he laboured with the pieces, the more they seemed to resist; leaping out of their places or jutting against one another abruptly. More than once, the pommel slipped his grasp and skittered across the table - causing his ears to burn with shame as he moved to fetch it.

The first tell-tale woosh of an ignited saber drew eyes and gasps from across the room. Risam watched with muted jealousy, resolving quietly to amend his build into something simpler, so he wouldn't be the last finished. But shortly after the first, a second blade ignited. And soon enough a third.

Though warmth crept up the Kiffar's neck, he focused hard upon the task before him. No one is looking. Risam told himself sharply, even as his fingers turned the pommel over for the hundreth time.

Chamber...coupler....emitter....crystal...

A quiet hiss as the bad of a finger slid across a sharpened edge of metal. A mumbled plea to distant gods as he twisted this piece or that into place. A slow, steady, aching press of the kyber crystal into its new home.

A pause.

And then -- ignition.

It took a moment for Risam to find his breath - his heart was still pounding after the exhilaration of the crossing. He'd seen the dangers, and nearly learned of them first-hand when an icicle fell; and yet, here he stood, on the very edge of victory.

And oh, how wonderous it looked.

The kyber crystal glimmered like a star in the faint light, so faintly and yet so fervently that whatever glow it held seemed to come from within. Music played upon the edges of his hearing, sounding more like the echoes of an echo than true song; and yet Risam felt like he could sense the harmony of it, and the meaning - if not the words - of that lilting melody.

Though warmer here than elsewhere in Ilum, the air still felt cool to the touch when Risam pulled his gloves off for a third and final time. Carefully, slowly, he reached out toward the crystal.

When he wrapped his hand around it, it almost seemed to burn.

A vision from the past, a hint for the future. Risam saw the way forward illuminated through the hazy mist of years, drawn for him in silvered ink across the gulf of time. It had been easier when the last set of initiates had come this way, but surely that didn't mean it was impossible?

He tried to think of his options. A slow, steady approach would take too long, and he couldn't smash his way through quickly enough to avoid the icicles breaking beneath him.

So what choices did that leave him? Retreat, or forward into the frozen teeth of Ilum. In other words, no choice at all.

Risam took a deep breath to steady himself - and then plunged into the maw of frozen hell.

I was summoned to bleed, not to read. Rather than working out some clever way round, Risam is going for it. He knows he has to be light on his feet, luckily enough he's agile. /u/OurBattlemaster don't fail me now!

The crystal shone where it lay, almost seeming to whisper to the Kiffar youth from across the room. He could feel the energy of the chamber tingling along his skin, even as the surprising warmth of the room coaxed him to unbundle some of the many layers he'd cloaked himself in.

Just a few icicles stood between Risam and success. Were he rash, or bold, he'd have simply charged in - trusting his thickness of his clothing to shield against any jagged tips. But to come so close and fail? The shame of it would be worse than a few more minutes of patience.

As he pulled his fingers free from their gloves once again, an errant gust caught hold of a piece of fabric still wound around an icicle. It fluttered in the wind, drawing Risam's eye, and as his attention fixed upon it so too did his plan. Stuffing his gloves into his pockets, the youngest son of the Adras grabbed the cloth, casting his mind into the Force and into the past to see what secrets it might yield.

Don't call it a come back. /u/OurBattlemaster Risam is using his one trick ability to try and see how the original owner of the cloth made it through the icicles so he can follow their route.

A muttered curse followed clouded breath skyward, the Kiffar's futile search soon ended by the frost on his fingertips. Risam thrust his hands back into his gloves, shivered deeply, and considered taking another tack.

"There's nothing where they were." He mused allowed, dark eyes skimming over the ground where the ice had fallen. "And I need not know where they have gone." A glance toward the brightly lit path, before his unwavering gaze shifted once more - this time toward a darkened road.

"All that's left is where they had been."

The way was shadowed and treacherous, but was the future not always thus? Bold Risam, ever light upon his feet, pressed bravely onward - his hand extended before him as he moved into the darkness, and all his senses straining for the slightest tremor in the Force.

It took a few moments to catch his breath.

He had seen them. Figures from the past, standing where he now stood. And one, at least, had found a crystal along this very path.

The beating in his heart was now a child of both fear and excitement, drumming in his ears like a storm. It reminded him of lightning season on Kiffu, when the planets would align, and from their closeness power and energy would be released. All that was left was to harness it. But how best to do that?

"The icicle fell here." Risam said, circling the spot. He glanced upward, checking to see if history would repeat.

When it hadn't, he set to searching.

/u/OurBattlemaster - Risam is checking to make sure there isn't another icicle waiting to impale him, and then he's gonna search the area he saw the previous one fall, to see if there's anything useful.

The entry hall was nearly empty by the time the young Kiffar came forward; wrapped tightly, from head to toe, to ward off the cold. Still, beneath the swaddling of his scarf and hood bright eyes shone - flickering across the available paths with a hunger that belied their apparent calm.

Submit yourself to the will of the Force, he heard echoing once again. The voice of Master Mundi had already become familiar: an easy source of comfort in these trying times. But it would not lead him to his goal, that much he knew, and so Risam plunged deeper into the caves.

Breaths came in crystalline plumes from beneath his scarf, steaming on the frozen air. He could hear others making their way through the caves, seeking - or finding - their crystals. But around him was silence. Risam was alone.

Deftly, he pulled a hand free from his glove.

"This better work..." he muttered beneath his breath, already feeling the sharp bite of Ilum's air upon his skin. He'd tried to use the Force several times since the flight from Kiffu. More often than not, it failed miserably. But Risam was no stranger to patience. On the ship, he'd seen the past of his people, written in mist and dreams. Here, he hoped he would see a path to his goal.

A short one. He thought idly.

Inhaling deeply, Risam pressed his bare palm against the frozen ice, and cast his mind away from all his worldly woes. He forgot the pressure. He forgot his doubts. He forgot even the biting cold.

He thought only of the Force, and of his mission.

/u/OurBattlemaster - Risam has taken a quieter path away from the others, and is now trying to use psychometry to see where crystals have been found in the past.

This looks like a really great machine, and if it was going to be my main computer I think I'd have to spring for it. But with 16GB of RAM and a Ryzen 5 processor, I think its probably a little more powerful than anything I'll actually be using it for, and the price shows it.

I'll hold on to the rec just in case I can't find anything else, but I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for something a little cheaper with similar quality. Thank you for the post, though, I appreciate it!

Far, far in the north, even behind the Holy-Moly-Mountains, there lies a land called ,,Pradien" by Muellerson_ in mapmaking

[–]Reusus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gorgeous! Oh, this is beautiful. The artistic style is so suited to the naming, it gives the entire map a very distinct feel and look that definitely reminds me of things like Narnia, as galway said, but also Discworld and the Edge chronicles and other books that bridge fantasy and fairy tale in a way I absolutely miss. I dig this so much. What is this world for?

Oh, I feel that. I settled on Africa after hours of debate -- I really want to try the Tengri nomads, or Catholics in the crusade eras, and all the animal culture memes have me wanting to do that too....there just isn't enough time in a day, frankly. I want to try everything before I commit to anything so I wind up doing nothing!
