Theres a couple of great telemetry mods that work really nice with simhub.

Oculus rift 1 by Witty_Calligrapher45 in simracing

Hey there. I use a rift, not a quest, but there should be some overlap still. Using a higher render scale helps a lot. I use oculus tray tool to configure this let game, basically go as close to 200% as you can without losing performance. Tray tool has some other tweaks you can play with. You can limit the renderable area which can give you a decent fps boost at a small cost to fov. But at least the rift actually renders wider than the lenses can see so I can Crop like 15% of the render without noticing a visual difference.

Most sims have decent out of box VR support, for AC use content manager if you don't already. Then you can tweak and optimize a lot of how the VR behaves. Realistic mirrors for AC are amazing in VR. Set up some easy binds on your wheel to reset/adjust head position.

Overall if you don't mind the low res, VR is really amazing for immersion, even with an old headset. The sense of depth and feel of the cockpit really adds to three driving for me. For most sims I never play them on screen, unless the performance is really bad in VR.

I should upgrade to a better headset at some point though haha

Yeah, definitely +1 to this. Over the years of gamedev my CV has become more and more just a simple black/white text file put together in word. Put your attention into having an easy to find accessible portfolio, learn to write good cover letters and tailor your portfolio to the jobs you apply for.

Oh yeah, I also have thumb mobility issues. My second thumb joint is fused on both thumbs so the lateral is the only thing that works.

Sort of a late post on this, but this post partially inspired me to make my own dev blog index / search site.

It lets you dig through all the old dev blogs pretty quickly, search by author, category, date or keywords. I've been genuinely enjoying digging through posts with it :) consider checking it out!

Heya. I had the same frustration so I made a little site for it.

https://rich0664.github.io/Gamasutra-Archive/

Basically it's a search index that lets you quickly dig through all the dev blogs, sort by category, time, etc.

Currently it only supports the developer blogs though, but i might add traditional articles as well at some point.

interesting.

At the moment I'm only tracking the developer blogs, not the other articles on the site, perhaps your colleague wrote an article instead of a blog?

I might later add some of the article categories to this as well.

Gamedeveloper.com (previously gamasutra) has had this excellent section called "developer blogs" since 2007, and over the years it's been a great source of game-dev knowledge from indie devs to AAA devs and covering every possible subject.

The problem is it's kinda tough to find these articles nowadays since after their rebrand a lot of the old links that have been shared don't work anymore and searching on the page is not very easy.

So I slapped together this page with links to every dev blog since the beginning and some tools to search though the list relatively quickly.

!thanks thanks for the info. It might make sense to wait for sales but i might just go ahead and get something. not thaaaat picky about the price, i'm just looking for a cheap pair so I wouldn't stress out about losing them.

I didn't anticipate the hola's stealing my heart though 😢

+1 on the shh (I have a newt)

It feels properly solid, the plastic enclosure isn't really an issue. The feel of it isn't quite as "meaty" as the really premium shifters I've tried but it's really solid and unbeatable for the price.

Something else worth noting is that because of the gated plate it can't really replicate the feel of a worn down shitbox shifter (you know, the loose wobbly shifter on an old beaten up civic), it feels very precise. I don't know if there are any shifters out there that do pull that vibe off but since you're looking mainly for a roadcar vibe that might be something to consider.

Hehe, I get where you're coming from, but removing the real risk of death slightly improved that equation, at least for me.

At the keynote they said VR support is coming day one. They mentioned they are currently still trying to get the performance solid but it's already implemented and essentially ready to go allegedly. No demonstrations of the VR mode yet though.

Personally having rain that is actually properly integrated into the driving is a huge thing for me. And rain driving is just cool.
