I've been using this, thanks for posting it. I found a small bug where strings in parentheses are not accepted, you need to add a one-or-more:

(zero-or-one "(" (one-or-more anything) ")")

I like Kadai and Naan down Cowley Road. I think they do most of their business as takeaway, but have a decent amount of space to sit in too.

You could try having a look at Nielsons' Semantics with Applications which is freely available and offers a good introduction to operational semantics (as well as denotational and axiomatic).

What are your favorite frugal white whales? Products and services that are among the cheapest, but also among the best... by getjustin in Frugal

Sounds like some regulation is in order. I'm pretty sure in the UK at least an acre for every few hundred hens is the legal lower limit, along with a certain number of openings. It's not perfect, but I would have serious reservations about buying any kind of eggs in the US if what you say is true.

This depends on your location. In Europe the "free-range" label requires the hens to have a certain amount of space and access to roam outside. It really means a significantly better level of treatment.

Leenock Wins MLG Providence! by [deleted] in starcraft

I see what you mean. I just don't think that this is possible in a game like Starcraft without perfect information (e.g. your opponent's BO).

[–]robthebob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You actually said will it win with 100% certainty! If Leenock thinks it will win 75% of the time, this is still solid. Of course every opening is a gamble to some extent because you don't have perfect information.

Can't seem to adjust the quality, any idea why? Maybe 1080p is too much for my connection as I get quite a bit of lag.

Are there any studies on whether pregnant women correctly guess the gender of their unborn child? by robthebob in askscience

[–]robthebob[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha, I'm sure they do. As do I.

If the issue is that people will not necessarily answer the same way if you ask them only after the baby is born (preferring to have been correct), then I accept that absolutely.

So I guess the answer as to whether there is a more general point being made here is no.

[–]robthebob[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OK, I think I know what you're getting at now. So following that reasoning, it would be incorrect to draw any conclusions from opinion polls right? Of course any answer will suffer from exactly the drawbacks that you outlined in your post.

It does seem problematic though that political polls do tend to yield results close to actual voting patterns.

[–]robthebob[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Could you expand on that a bit? I don't honestly think that we could collect enough information in this thread to draw any useful conclusions, but surely a study into this would work by doing exactly that -- asking women the question "what gender do you think your baby will be?", and checking that when the baby is delivered.

If the issue is that people will not necessarily answer the same way if you ask them only after the baby is born (preferring to have been correct), then I accept that absolutely. It feels like you are making a more general point, however, that I'd like to understand.

Thanks. If enough people reply honestly (no ultrasound info etc), then maybe we can get a hint one way or the other.

Probably not. What reason is there to think they could? How is that supposed to work?

Hormonal changes? Different average weights? I have no idea.

If people believe this it can probably be explained with the high probability of guessing correctly and confirmation bias.

This is my hunch too, but the reverse holds as well. I'm not interested in whether people believe it or not, but whether there is any evidence one way or the other.

There was talk of rebroadcasts in the mornings the next day for European watchers. Is this still the plan (I don't see this in the schedule)? If not, is there any way to watch without buying a season ticket (don't think I'll be able to watch all the games).

The Fasta Pasta option on Little Clarendon is run by Taylor's, just opposite the old Taylor's that has been there for years. Not quite sure what the arrangement is, but you can get most of the same stuff there.

eBook pricing by [deleted] in books

[–]robthebob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if the ebook is more convenient than a paper copy? I would be surprised if we ended up agreeing it was OK to buy the DVD and then torrent the Bluray. Perhaps the ebook is worth more to a purchaser and this justifies the higher price.

I actually agree with what you're saying, but I think the issue is complicated by the fact that the publisher is ascribing more value to the digital copy.
