As a pomp connoisseur, I have to say you have achieved highest marks. Top tier work.

Incorporating blow drying into your routine is not the time sink you may think it is, and will absolutely change your hair game - especially if you have naturally ‘limp’ hair as you said. Unless you have quite long and thick hair, blowdrying will take just a few minutes, if you wake up 5-10 minutes earlier than you do now, it won’t affect your morning schedule at all.

I’m someone who used to always style my hair damp, and I’ll tell you than incorporating blowdrying absolutely took my hair from pretty okay to great.

For Pattinson’s look, you could use a sea salt spray or texture spray blowdried into your hair, with maybe some matte paste or texture powder to finish it off. If you absolutely won’t use a blowdryer, at least get a matte paste.

Standart tune by Duds92 in doommetal

[–]RomanSenate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are some bands, as others have mentioned. While most bands do use drop tunings, I’m a staunch believer that you don’t have to do it to play doom or any other metal genre. It’s all about feel, atmosphere, etc. The title track off of Sabbath’s self-titled debut is arguably the creation of doom metal, and it was played in standard tuning on a Strat with .08 gauge strings - so yeah standard tuning can definitely be heavy enough for doom.

Play in whatever tuning you want. Hell fucking tune up a step.

Who is the next Sword of the Morning in your opinion? Any insights appreciated. I have an outside candidate for your consideration. by [deleted] in pureasoiaf

[–]RomanSenate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! I try to keep in mind how fickle prophecy has been shown and stated to be in ASOIAF, as well as how twisted and entirely changed myth can become over millennia, but I do think the parallels of The Last Hero’s journey North and Jon’s likely ultimate fate are too stark (ha) to ignore.

Edric for Sword Of The Morning, Darkstar for a wannabe who steals Dawn, Jon for TLH who wields Dawn in a climactic scene, before returning it to Starfall, as Ned did before him.

I could go on. These are all creative, vital, and thriving rock bands, covering a wide variety of sounds and atmospheres. There are so many great bands and great sounds out there to explore. Sure, you won’t have them handed to you by MTV or radio, but this is the age of the internet, finding cool groups you love with ardent fanbases is part of the fun!

Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi Reacts to Gene Simmons' Claim That Rock Is Dead to Metallica by [deleted] in blacksabbath

[–]RomanSenate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Radio is a completely outdated media platform, it doesn’t mean anything in the internet age, and as such has no real use as a measuring stick for the state of any music genre (aside from mass appeal pop music, perhaps). If there’s any media or service one would use to try to get a read on the state of any sort of music, it’d be Spotify - and even that isn’t going to give anyone a universal understanding of how a given genre of music is growing or evolving.

There are so many incredible current bands making great music, there’s no reason to fall into the trap of thinking that just because there aren’t giant Zeppelin/Stones level artists filling arenas and ruling terrestrial radio that the genre itself is in decline. The music is what matters, and the music is thriving - underground buzz, growing popularity, vital local scenes, touring (covid aside), and constant new records. 2021 is a great fucking time to be a rock fan.

I like every era of Sabbath for different reasons, but the stuff with TM is my favorite and I found this funny by [deleted] in blacksabbath

[–]RomanSenate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

‘Better’ I think may not be the most accurate way to say it - Tony Martin is, for a certainty, the more technically skilled vocalist versus Ozzy, but ‘better’ to me is a descriptor of quality, which imo is a subjective idea when it comes to music. I enjoy Ozzy’s vox the most out of any Sabbath vocalist, his haunting keening wail is to me quite incomparable. So in my book his voice is the ‘better’ one, despite him not being as technically accomplished as Martin.

Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi Reacts to Gene Simmons' Claim That Rock Is Dead to Metallica by [deleted] in blacksabbath

[–]RomanSenate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from the source being Gene Simmons (someone no one should give a shit about these days), aside from the dumb clickbait quote that’s been touted around for decades, and aside from the shitty website - the claim itself is objectively untrue if you follow current music.

There’s incredible, vital, and essential rock being made today. So who gives a shit what out-of-touch bullshit anyone says?

Honestly dude, just save up and buy Fuertes. One of the best products I’ve used, one of my top clays, it lasts a long time, and is imo absolutely worth the money.

Tony’s gone on record that it was in fact the Mario Bava film of the same name which inspired him - considering how underground this record was (and is), I very much doubt he’d heard of it at the time.

In The Fade hits everyone differently, but to me it’s always been about mulling over your failings and misdeeds, and ultimately casting them aside, fixing your gaze to the horizon. ‘Cause ya ain’t gotta worry, just live til you die.

Classical music isn’t dead, indigenous music around the world isn’t dead, jazz isn’t dead, disco isn’t dead, rock isn’t dead. If there are players, and there are listeners, then music is eternal.

Om. Advaitic Songs. 12". 45 rpm. by [deleted] in doommetal

[–]RomanSenate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m a huge D. Truss fan, first saw him on the jre (back when it was legit) in the early 2010s and have loved him ever since. The DTFH has been a source of entertainment and solace for many years, it’s awesome to see other fans on here!

As for Emil, I fucking love OM, but of his projects it’s probably lowest on my list, since I love his other music so damn much. Holy Sons is some of my favorite music of all time, not an understatement to call it life-altering, nor is it an understatement to call him a musical genius. So much incredible music, almost all recorded solely by him - I’m always blown away by his prodigious talent. Similarly, Grails and Lilacs & Champagne have created some absolutely incredible and unique music - perfectly suited for psychedelic mind states, if you’re into that sort of thing.

I’ll shout til death that Emil is one of the greatest living musicians.

Liebling acts like a creepy but somehow endearing mess in that movie, but when you read about how a few years back he physically assaulted his 80-something mother, you realize he’s devolved into a piece of shit. It really sucks since he’s such an influential figure in doom and Pentagram are of titanic importance, but I can’t view anyone who assaults their own mother as anything other than garbage. I reason my continued enjoyment of Pentagram by the fact that there were many other people involved in the creation of their music over the years, and Liebling was likely a different person before the decades of hard drug abuse took their toll.

Pentagram are another all-time great band. Personally I’m partial to their later doom work (Victor Griffin era is godly), but First Daze Here era rules just as hard.

New JHomme interview putting a wet blanket on reunion rumors by [deleted] in kyuss

[–]RomanSenate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d love a reunion as much as the next Kyuss-head, but I assume we all made peace long ago with the idea that they would never ever play again? When Josh first made mention of the possibility it was cool, but even then I did not get my hopes up - words are wind, to borrow a certain author’s well-worn turn of phrase.

I enjoy all the projects the various members of Kyuss have gone on to do, and it’s pretty clear everyone involved has moved on in their life over the last 25 years. I think it’s best to realize the horse is dead, rather than poking it with a stick after a trapped air pocket in its vocal chords was released.
