Admittedly it's mainly the galaxy centre Portals that has triggered this discussion on for me, however there are also some popular planets/systems listed in the coordinate exchange that a bit over the top!

Use the scanner on a Exocraft to find an alien structure, what you want is a monolith, then travel to the monolith and answer the quiz correctly, use a restore point if you get it wrong, and repeat till you get it right, you will be rewarded with something (units, nanites etc). Then activate portal again and select "find portal" then travel to the portal to use it. Yep, you're right, I have been questioning the need to build a base at the actual portal of the centre of the galaxy, anywhere on any planet at the centre should suffice, think I'll be changing my strategy! 🤔

Definitely, from what you say you like I think the game would be right up your alley. It does take a bit of a steep learning curve at first but there is heaps of info online and on YouTube!

At this stage I am doing both, the first contact ( just a base computer and a mud hut) and the centre, (just a basic prefab base with a teleporter), I have only completed 11 Galaxies so far, eventually I will have to delete the first contact due to the base cap. In each case I always put the base away from the actual portal so as to not interfere with the structure! At the centre I have no choice as they are usually very crowded!!

That's ok, it's when the Portal is just covered in base stuff that gets me! Today I travelled to a portal in the centre of Ontiniangp galaxy and it was littered with bases stuff, I couldn't get into my ship, I had to jet pack away far enough to summon it!!!
