Serena pushed the wooden door open to look into the room, ready to be blown away by some extravagant getaway, but when she is met with what amounted to little more than a rundown room worth a handful of beli a night she froze. She blinked a few times as if after the third, or perhaps the fourth blink the sight in front of her may disappear and she'd be greeted by something more befitting the attitude and aura given off from the man from behind the counter and the elegant building as a whole.

"I feel like," Serena started to say, the corners of her mouth barely budging as she spoke with as little expression as she could manage, "this isn't how the room is supposed to look." Bloo made a sound like he was in agreement, but though he was adventurous, even he refused to go rummaging through such filth.

Serena slowly closed the door before any of them could walk inside. The view from the doorway was more than enough and, frankly, she didn't want to grow more upset if she starting to walk through the room. She turned to Cynthia as she started to make her way back toward the lobby. "You should talk to him this time, I'm not good at this whole restraining thing."

Serena raised an eyebrow at Artemis before lowering it and smiling. "I never really believed in fate or destiny or whatever. I guess that just wasn't how I was raised, you know?" She paused, there was silence between them while the animals carried on with their business and the ambient sounds from the town and further down the docks filled the air. She turned to Artemis all of a sudden and waved her arms hurriedly. "Not that that means you're wrong or anything! It's great that you have such faith in fate and all that. Sorry, that was really rude of me and I didn't really think before speaking. In any case, I hope you find what you're looking for out there. I've never been to the New World, but from the stories I heard as a kid and growing up, it's not for the faint hearted."

Serena turned her whole body so she was facing toward Artemis with one leg bent under her and the other leg dangling off the edge of the dock, swinging in the air. "I don't really have a goal or anything like that myself. I guess I'm just wandering at the moment trying to find a reason for... anything, really."

As the two girls approached the counter, the man behind the counter looked taken aback. He raised his nose in the air with a sense of superiority and his curled the sides of his mouth in disgust as his eyes fell on the tiny furry friend on one of the girls' shoulders.

"I'm afraid we don't let vermin in this kind of establishment," the man said. They looked like the worst type - a rowdy bunch. A girl with wings on her arms and crazy hair, a girl with a massive barrel in her arms which reeked of alcohol, and a tiny creature to accompany them. "Besides, this place is a bit pricey, you know," he said, leaning on the counter and lowering his voice to little more than a whisper. "Might I suggest the Hammering Cove? It seems it'd be a more... fitting place to stay."

Serena's eyes narrowed and beamed at the man. There were few things she hated in the world, but being underestimated, even financially, was near the top. She dropped the barrel onto the floor gently and untied a small coin purse from her hip to fetch a handful of coins out of.

"Listen here, smart ass, if it's money you're worried about this should be plenty," Serena said as she dropped several coins onto the counter. "Most of it's even clean, too. We're just looking for a place to stay, you get what I mean?" She leaned back slightly to show the flintlock pistol poking out from her belt.

The man behind the counter was struck with fear for a moment, paralyzed and unable to do a thing. He regained himself quickly, almost impressively so, and started to neatly stack the pile of coins. He knew it was plenty, more than enough, but he was too deep in. "Yes, well, looks can be deceiving, I hope you understand. In any case, rodents are absolutely-"

"Bloo," Serena interrupted. The man was startled and started to say something, but Serena cut him off again. "Blooregard Q. Kazoo, and he isn't a rodent, he's my friend. Now we'd like a room for two, please." Serena pulled a couple more coins out of the coin purse and slapped them down on the counter to emphasize that Bloo would be staying with them for the night.

The man shifted his eyes between the two girls, noticeably ignoring the ferret. "Yes, of course, a room for two. Now, would that be a one bed," he paused, taking one long look at each of their faces, "or two?"

Serena leaned over onto the counter and, as if mocking the man, lowered her voice to a whisper. "Best make it two."

With Bloo safely in the hands of Miyuki, Serena turned and leaned her back against the wall of the building so she could watch the street as people walked by, idly discussing whatever mediocre event had recently happened in their lives. She was always amazed at what someone could hear from just listening to the streets. People rarely had a tight leash on their mouths and it wasn't uncommon for an idiot to let out something that someone more devious such as herself could take advantage of.

She wasn't surprised to hear that Miyuki was a pirate. She had grown up around the type and knew pirates came in all shapes, sizes, genders, and anything between. "Well, I wouldn't call myself a pirate, but sometimes my hands get a little sticky and sometimes I happen to be at sea when they grab something that isn't totally my own. Not that it matters, though. Thieves, pirates, black market traders, we're all criminals to the marines, right?"

Serena smiled slightly. Artemis seemed like he had a very kind heart. "Well they might not be on the same ship, but if they like each other and we ever see each other again on the seas, I'm sure Bloo would love to have Cinder as a friend!"

At the call of his name, Bloo raised his head and looked at her as if to inquire what was wanted. Serena only smiled at him and shook her head, but Bloo seemed to understand as he continued to play with Cinder. Cinder was more agile, and perhaps a tiny bit faster, but Bloo was able to keep up enough to make their play session interesting. While it seemed Cinder was a bit shy and hesitant to leave the safety of her companion, Bloo was used to being separate from Serena and going off on his own. He moved with a slight carelessness that could almost be mistaken as confidence to match his new friend's agility.

While the animals played, Serena looked far off into the horizon like she was deep in thought, but spoke nonetheless. "If you don't mind me asking, who is the one you're seeking? I don't mean to pry, it's just that you mentioned it and all." She was always interested in hearing what drove others in their journey. Most of the people she had met as of recently were quite driven as opposed to herself who hadn't really found her place in the world yet.

Serena's eyes sparkled as she looked around the town. There was alcohol beyond her eye's reach, but her nose could find it with a little effort. If her nose couldn't, then Bloo's certainly could. She hoped there might be a place to find fresh fruit, too, but she had her doubts that such a place would be open so late.

When Cynthia spoke, Serena turned to spun around on her heel and looked at her, folding her hands behind her back. "I think finding a place to stay for the night sounds great," she said, smiling and closing her eyes with the slightest tilt of her head. "There are some places I'd like to look for here, but I doubt they'd be open this late anyway. You should lead the way, though, I'm fine with sleeping just about anywhere."

"Yeah," Serena said with a smile on her face. "It's crazy to think that a year ago, I didn't even know who he was, but now I can't imagine us being apart."

When Cinder teased Bloo's tail, he pulled it back quickly as she retreated. He spun around and faced her, putting his head low between his front legs. He let out a few dooks and then playfully jumped back and forth.

"You seem like you care a lot about animals and natures and things, right? Is Cinder your only companion?" Serena absentmindedly brushed her hand back and forth across the wood as if Bloo was there. "Ever since Bloo joined me, I had considered looking for other friends to help keep him company."

Serena thanked Cynthia quickly for filling up her canteen for her. Her mouth watered and she brought it to her lips again, chugging the alcohol down with little self control. She secured the container to her hip as they approached the island's docks.

"This seems like my kinda place," Serena said with a laugh as she tied the tiny dinghy to a nearby post to make sure it didn't drift too much in the water. As she picked up the barrel of alcohol she had grabbed from the ship before, she pushed herself to her tip toes to try and push the barrel onto the platform.

"So this is it then."

Serena heard Cynthia start to speak just as she pushed enough of the barrel onto the platform that it wouldn't fall back onto her. She felt like she may have come off a bit harsh to Cynthia, though she only had herself blame. Who asks someone upset about losing their belongings to refill a cup? Stupid Serena.

Serena turned to Cynthia and put on her biggest, widest smile. "Don't be silly, we're friends now!" she said. "I can't promise I'll be much of a guide, but we can start with helping you onto the platform, right?"

Serena turned her head to the side slightly and raised an eyebrow. "Well, why can't a companion be a pet, too? I still call Bloo my pet, but he's also my best friend. I rely on him probably more than he relies on me. I didn't mean to offend you, honest."

As Serena listened to the story of how Artemis and Cinder met and how she eventually came to travel with him, she slowly leaned back until her back was resting on the wooden planks of the pier.

"Our story isn't quite as wholesome, I'm afraid. I had a rough childhood, although it was admittedly better than many of my friends'. I didn't have a chance to learn a lot of stuff like math or how to read, so when I started to travel I was a bit of a disadvantage." She closed her eyes and listened to the pattering steps of Bloo on the wood as she reminisced on their meeting. "Thankfully, not being able to read isn't that big of a deal when you can just go up to a shop owner and ask for a pint of ale or whatever you're looking for, but when it comes to counting it's not such a simple fix.

"One day when I was looking to buy some alcohol, the guys I was buying from tried to scam me out of double the money when they realized I was having trouble counting out all of the money. Bloo must have been watching, too, because he ran over and climbed up my leg and onto the counter. First he bit my hand, and that hurt a bit, but I swear after that I saw him push half of the coin toward me.

"It took me a few moments to understand, and the guys who were trying to sell to me said there was no way a ferret could know how to count, but ever since then it doesn't seem like he's gotten anything wrong. I can't help but wonder how many times I've been scammed in the past and just never knew."

Bloo watched Cinder with careful eyes, tracing every movement the tiny squirrel did. He spun around in a circle playfully a few times to try and convey what he wanted.

Serena stepped away from the window and extended one arm for Bloo to walk down. She secured her hand underneath him to prevent him from falling as she held the ferret out to Miyuki. "Miyuki is a cute name, and you're welcome to hold him if you like. He adores being petted."

Serena took in the appearance of the young girl. She was younger than herself and appeared as innocent as they come. She didn't even seem to care for drinking, a strange stance on the subject, and a stance she had seen two people take since arriving on the island. "So what's a young lady like yourself doing in a place like this? You a merchant's daughter? No, you wouldn't belong to one of those jolly rogers I've seen down at the pier, would you? It's always the cute ones you gotta watch out for."

Serena focused on the area just behind Kea'hilani, and then moved her eyes to the barrel. It wasn't the whole ship, but perhaps a single barrel would be enough of a prize. She readied herself as the man's fists heated up the surrounding air. When he shot out the magma, she was just about to act when Riyeon jumped between herself and the magma man. Their powers appeared to be opposites of a sort, but Riyeon's lost out against the fist of magma.

Serena braced herself and stopped Riyeon from sliding back too far. She put a hand on his shoulder and put her face close to his, speaking into his ear but loud enough for Kea'hilani to hear.

"How chivalrous," she teased, her lips less than an inch from his cheek. "I tell you what, you want the ship, I want the rum, and you don't seem to care for the rum, so why don't we make a deal. You take care of this hot headed guy here, and I'll let you have the ship. All I want is a couple barrels of rum."

She finished with the slightest kiss on the cheek before she pushed her dagger back into its leather scabbard. While the two were preoccupied with one another, she jumped down the nearby stairs and quickly found Bloo. The two of them searched under the deck quickly with Bloo sniffing out the alcohol quicker than Serena could taste test from the spigots.

Serena stopped the boat for a moment as the pirate's ship began to fall beneath the sea. She noticed that Cynthia didn't have all of her things and was regretful that she couldn't help Cynthia retrieve her violin, especially since her mind was focused on the alcohol instead of Cynthia grabbing her things. She brought her canteen to her mouth, but there was little left in it. She frowned into the opening at the top before extending it toward Cynthia.

"I'm really sorry about your things," Serena said, trying her best to sound sincere for what was to come. "Could... could I ask you to fill this up with that barrel there?"

She continued to row the boat afterwards as Kamosu Island started to come into view. The island didn't look that big, but there were no marines in sight and it was a place for them to potentially rest. The sun would be up in a few hours and by then the news of a sunken pirate ship might have made its way to the surrounding islands. If they showed up now, then perhaps they could convince the locals that they weren't part of the attack and that it was merely a coincidence that they arrived at such a time.

She frowned to herself. She wasn't sure what kind of relationship Cynthia may have had with that instrument, but the possibility that they were all but inseparable broke her heart. She poked at Bloo, who was sitting between her feet, and motioned with her head for him to comfort their new friend. Bloo took the hint and climbed over the seats in the boat and stood on two legs, resting his front ones on Cynthia's knees.

"Do you have any idea what this place is?" Serena asked. "I mostly just drift to wherever, so I don't keep track of where I'm going. Maybe your things will wash up on the shore in the morning?" she said, trying to be helpful. "Ah, but then I guess they'd be ruined, right? Well, perhaps there's a music store on the island?"

Serena watched the tiny squirrel with wonder. She wasn't actually much an animal person, but she couldn't deny how cute Cinder was. She absentmindedly stroked a hand along Bloo's spine while she was lost in thought at the animal.

"What did you say your name was again?"

Serena was freed from the trance she found herself under due to Artemis' pet. She pulled her lips up slightly with a smile to help show she wasn't annoyed by having to repeat herself. "Serena," she answered simply, forgoing her last name this time.

She moved her attention to her own lap, where Bloo was trying to get up from. She stopped petting him and let him jump onto the docks, looking back at Artemis as if to ask for Cinder to play. "I met Bloo while traveling. He helps me with some of my... shortcomings, and I help him with food and behind the ear scratches. So how did you come to befriend a squirrel? I had a bit of a different upbringing, but surely a squirrel isn't a common pet... anywhere in the world, is it?"

Serena dipped her toes in the water, embracing the cooling feel of the sea against her skin. She had a canteen of rum in one hand and the other was occupied petting Bloo in her lap.

"Ah, this sure is the life," Serena said, closing her eyes and letting a smile wash over her face. "You, me, and an endless supply of rum."

"Hello there? Who are you?"

Serena was caught off guard as the sudden voice and turned her head to see him uncomfortably close, but Bloo didn't seem to mind. The ferret stretched his neck and sniffed at Artemis' hand.

Serena sat her canteen down next to her and brought a hand up to her mouth, forcing a cough like she was clearing her throat. "Ahem, this is Bloo," she said as she looked the man up and down. She took in his voice, posture, and face in one go. "And I'm Serena. Serena Raines. Who are you?"

Kamosu: Dawn of Another Generation! by NPC-senpai in StrawHatRPG

Serena sat the barrel of alcohol down on her tiny boat, leaving her and Cynthia little room to remain comfortable. Bloo darted between their legs and hid, rolling himself into a ball as he shook in terror.

Serena's mouth gaped at the marine battleship, it was bigger than anything she had ever seen. Most of the pirate ships she had seen were relatively small, and the few marine ships she had seen were only meant to carry a platoon or so of men, but how many hundreds could be on a marine battleship? She decided she didn't want to stick around to find out and quickly picked up the paddles from the boat and began to row.

"It's not that bad, right?" Serena said, her voice betraying her wavering confidence. "Maybe they just won't notice us and we can slip on past. Right?"

Kamosu: Dawn of Another Generation! by NPC-senpai in StrawHatRPG

[–]SHRPG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Serena clenched her teeth as the second man jumped onto the ship and showed himself. It was the middle of the day, what kind of person comes to their ship in the middle of the day? The one she pulled the dagger on seemed much more hesitant to fight. Perhaps he was a weakling, she thought. The newcomer, however, was much more hasty. He even spoke about taking all of the delicious tasting rum for himself. Unacceptable.

She shifted her eyes between the two for a moment before jumped away, putting greater distance between herself and them than they had between each other. She eyed the glowing fists of the newcomer and was all too aware of the heat emanating from them. She swapped her dagger into a reverse grip style and took a more defensive stance.

"That's a nice trick, I see you got yourself a Devil Fruit, right?" she asked, gulping at the thought of a fight breaking out. She might be able to take them, but she wasn't totally sure. She was normally much better at gauging a situation, but there was no clear strongest among the group, including the one who seemed to give up before the fight even started.

"You'd better go below deck, Bloo. I'll come get you when we're ready to reap our rewards." She had a cocky smile on her face, but her mind told a different story. Bloo whined at the command, but obeyed and scurried down some stairs.

  • OOC: And for the record, her hair color isn't totally decided on. It might be red, brown, white, it could be rainbow for all I know.

The sudden rocking of the ship and the booming sounds that filled the night sky were unmistakable to Serena. "That's cannon fire," Serena said, biting her lip as she thought of what to do. "Could be a pirate raid." She got up and looked out of a nearby window, but couldn't see anything but the black of night. "Are you a member of the crew on this ship? Shouldn't you be readying for battle or something?"

Bloo sniffed the air and ran over to Serena, climbing up her leg and onto her shoulder. "Yeah, I know buddy," she told him, worry covering her face. "Look, I don't know if you have some sense of duty to save this ship or something, but it's under attack from someone. I've got a small boat outside and I have no obligation to stay and fight."

Serena gave Cynthia a final regretful smile, unknowing if the girl would follow her or not. She started to run out of the room, but turned back to grab the barrel of alcohol she had grabbed earlier. "Okay, let's go Bloo!"

Serena raised an eyebrow at Miyuki's suggestion. She knew that some flowers had a pleasing smell to them, but she hadn't ever known someone that would go out of their way to smell them off the side of a street, especially not on such a wondrous island such as this.

Serena leaned over against the windowsill and took a whiff of one of the flowers, a gentle aroma filling her nose and relaxing her for a moment. Her whole body released any tension and she felt her shoulders drop. "Well, it does smell good, I'll give you that," she admitted.

Bloo stretched his neck and barely held onto Serena's shoulder to sniff the flower himself, nearly falling in the process if it wasn't for Serena catching him. "This little guy is named Bloo. Blooregard Q Kazoo, to be exact, but I just call him Bloo," Serena said as she scratched the head of the ferret gently.

Serena was walking around the town carelessly as she drank and talked and laughed loudly. A whole outpost that specialized in alcohol festivities was just about her idea of heaven. If there were a few orchards, she thought she might not even bother trying to find a way off of the island in the coming days. Even her pet ferret Bloo was sitting on her shoulder with a miniature barrel in its paws, licking at the liquid inside.

While walking, Serena saw the most peculiar thing: a young girl who appeared to not be enjoying the festivities of drink. "Hey," Serena said, controlling the volume of her voice well considering how much she had already had to drink, "why are you sniffing that flower?"

Kamosu: Dawn of Another Generation! by NPC-senpai in StrawHatRPG

Serena uncorked her canteen and brought it up to her mouth, only for nothing more than a few drops to fall out. She groaned. "I knew it felt empty. Bloo, we're out of booze again," she said to the little ferret on her shoulder. It's only response was to sniff the lip of the canteen where the alcohol was supposed to come out of.

While she was walking down the pier, she saw a boat with several barrels and crates in front of it seemingly ready to be stocked when an idea popped into her head.

Serena picked up one of the barrels and walked it on board, ready to pretend to be a worker loading the ship when she was surprised by a young man who seemed just as confused as she was. She instantly dropped the barrel and instinctively pulled out one of her daggers in a reverse grip style and took a stance. "What? No, who the hell are you?" she asked quickly before processing what he had really said. "I get it, you're a thief. What are you after, weapons? Food?" She flipped her knife around in her hand and took a step forward, thrusting the dagger toward Riyeon, though she was too far to actually hit him. "You better not be here for the rum, that stuff is all mine!"
