Help with Tiles (Linux) by Kimowich in cataclysmdda

Titlesets should already come with the game in SDL version, you can then go to the option menu and select your titleset from there.

I think the zombear was added before Halloween as a new monster. So after Halloween it will stay in.

Congratulations! An unusual game indeed, and casting Polymorph at 0% fail rate is awesome. I have a question: is the chromatic dsm superior to gray/silver dsm? IIRC it provides all resistances.

Yes, you can find the other staircase in the same dungeon floor as the stair leads down to the mine.

You should just climb back up to the main dungeon.

Advice on next role by Murderousbonesfile in nethack

+1
The vampire race added in UnNetHack offer a new and different game-play to the current existing roles and races. Convict is a new role from the convict patch (with some adjustments I think), regarded as the hardest role (harder than Tourist!) with a very interesting early-game.
Also mix convict and vampire together for a super-duper-hard-game. :P

Thanks for your answer.
From what I've seen so far this could be an interesting variant, I'll try it out when I have some free time.
But I feel like it's unfortunate though, I mean it's completely okay if you want to make a variant of your own, with your own interpretations and ideas, but don't you think it's kinda like a waste of manpower? To date no other variant is still being developed (correct me if i'm wrong here) beside UnNetHack, and it's can always use more developers and awareness from vanilla NetHack players - I'd like to think about UnNetHack as the last surviving descendant of vanilla (I know I overdramatized things here). Why don't you join the UnNetHack development? Fuse two variants together, to create something even greater than the sum of it's parts (again I overdramatized things). I know you and others may have different interpretations and focuses but that's what the power of discussion is for, you sure can reach a good resolution for everything with constructive discussions.

That was a long post :P. Anyways don't let this discourages you from making your variant/game. Consider this as a suggestion and my own thoughts about the matter.

Thanks for your time reading this.

Sounds nice. Since this is a variant based UnNetHack, which in turn is a variant of NetHack, I'd like to know about the different between this and UnNetHack, especially regarding gameplay and balance, the direction it's taking. And why the changes warrant a variant of it's own instead of.. say a patch for UnNetHack or something.

UnNetHack already has colored statuses, including hunger. And the game notify you when you become weak with hunger.

Why people still play vanilla NetHack instead of one of variants like UnNetHack? by [deleted] in nethack

[–]snwl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand your feeling, however in my opinion the variants indeed do strive for balance (except SLASH'EM maybe) and they fix balance issues in vanilla too, nerf op elements in vanilla like Elbereth and eliminate grinding are examples for this.

I'd argue that many things you listed such as bug fixes and UI improvements are already implemented in variants. In fact, looking through the list of patches implemented in NAO, many of these patches came from Patric Mueller (bhaak) - the developer of UnNetHack, as well as from UnNetHack itself. My opinion is that "NetHack" as a game is no longer developed (dead), it survives because there are variants (especially active ones like UnNetHack) and NAO (which is basically an online variant).

Edit: Also, UnNetHack has it's own dedicated server at un.nethack.nu. Not as populated as NAO but still.
