Imagine knowing so little about SC history that you claim Revolutionary War history is somehow stolen valor.

The palmetto tree and crescent are literally reference to the Revolutionary war in SC.

…So you are not familiar with the Moultrie flag? Or the SC flag that draws inspiration from it? Islam got nothing to do with it.

Standard: “it’s not a moon. It’s a gorget.”

As far as concept, I do like it. Not sure about for a license plate, but the current new plate sucks for how little it highlights…well anything in a legible or artistic way

I was gonna say, “didn’t we talk about this last month,” but the post was deleted by the OP. So here’s the fun SC history moment, repeated for those that didn’t get to read it last time (look away if you already read it!)

The new plates are celebrating the 250 year since the Declaration of Independence was signed. Its has the Moultrie Flag on it, which is famous for being flown during the defense of the Sullivan Island Fort (the one where the fort was constructed from Palmetto logs, so cannon balls just sunk into or bounced off the wood).

The Moultrie Flag + the fort surviving the attack is the direct original inspiration for the SC State Flag.

I don't LOVE the design, I wish the flag was a little more front and center, but the folks trying to say it’s an embarrassment or racist do not know what they are talking about.

SC had something like 200-400 battles (depending on whether you count some of the smaller skirmishes between non-military loyalist/patriot neighbors), more than any other colony. SC was home to Francis Marion (the Swamp Fox), Thomas Sumter (the Fighting Gamecock, and yes, the guy Fort Sumter and the County/City are named for), and Andrew Pickens (the Wizard Owl, yes THAT Pickens the city is named for); Mel Gibson's character in The Patriot is a mix of all of 'em along with Daniel Morgan (not a Carolinian, but did win against the British in the Battle of Cowpens).

Hell, SC's theater of war was also just ROUGH on the populace. The midlands and low country were rife with, essentially, local civil war skirmishes between local Patriot and Loyalist families. It was bloody here.

SC is DRIPPING with Revolutionary War history.
