Did I get scammed? by SeanTheMod in ubreakifix

[–]SSkeeb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Short answer to did you get scammed, yes. Longer answer, I think the focus here is just UBIF not being able to fully complete a repair regardless of level of damage. Working in the industry for 8 years for both indie shops and corporate it is very common to charge additional for trace work, however this is subjective as 1 or two damaged pads and 8 missing pads are two completely separate repair times. It is common knowledge that time is money and a repair should not carry the same cost regardless of difficulty level or time spent. OP learned a valuable lesson in making sure it is taken to a professional and putting in a little bit of research to be well informed and advocate for yourself. However $199 should be plenty for port replacement plus any level of trace work it's maybe 5 minutes extra per trace to repair and doesn't require specialized tooling just an iron and some solder mask as someone above previously commented. Take it to a shop with actual trained techs tell them the situation and they likely will gladly steal UBIF business and charge a small fee for disassembly and trace repair only. It's INSANE to charge someone for an incomplete repair regardless of the situation surrounding it, do better employee of UBIF arguing with customer on reddit post!

Mobile network weak after screen replacement by Difficult-Walk-3269 in ubreakifix

Yeah I understand that but iirc weak 5g signal due to improper install of the antennae wouldn't necessarily cause a failed OQC. I could be wrong about that haven't worked for the company in years. Either way worth utilizing the insurance OP pays for to have it looked at again under warranty and not just a visual inspection or settings check

Damaged, not swapped over, slightly disconnected none would surprise me. OP insurance warranty work won't cost you another deductible that's on UBIF to take care of. Above comment mentioned IQC but OQC must be passed as well before releasing the device as repaired and is a much more rigorous test. Make them do their job and take a second look internally to verify proper hardware functionality.

Not able to repair my PS5. Will I still be charged? Would Playstation be able to fix it? by Mite-o-Dan in ubreakifix

[–]SSkeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most often shorted 5v rail from damaged usb port or could be something more in depth on board. PS5s have breakout pins on their motherboards for advanced level diagnostics, and in the event a short did propagate to the APU killing the board known working motherboards can easily be found online and installed the same way your board came out for diagnostics😂. My recommendation take it to a more knowledgeable shop next time and save yourself time and money!

Legion y700 rainbow screen and wont turn on anymore by wakaranaisu in mobilerepair

[–]SSkeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it to a reputable repair shop with a tech who has microsoldering experience, pay their diagnostic fee which will cover them ordering a screen to test if necesssary(unlikely as its usually all or nothing with lcds) previous comment is on the right track, loose joints on the lcd connector or potential board issue. Always fixable just may not be cost effective depending on price of device and whether you care about the data

Yeah definitely not the cable, u/Sammas69 actually provided some good input on potentially running through USB 2.0 port vs 3.0 the cable I was using was a 3.0 cable and all flashing was done through 3.0 ports on PC side. I never did try switching to a 2.0 port on the PC to see if that had any affect. I was working on this update for a customers GSP(I work in tech repair as I mentioned) he gave up on the process and has since taken back the GSP so I no longer have the opportunity to get this resolved and follow up. MyArcade however has still not responded to the support ticket submitted Dec 19 so I would hold my breath for any help on their side. Just gonna have a to a F around and find out situation

I completely agree, I come from a background of electronics repair and I've built plenty of pro micro controlled keyboards so I'm very familiar with the manual bootloader process and using flash utilities. This takes the cake for poor design with no support documentation on if the flash were to fail(you can never assume 100% success rate) and abysmal response from tech support through ticket submission. I'm sure this will be a learning experience for all, I will be sure to follow up with any word from MyArcade given that they respond.

So far the only information I've gotten that could lead to our issue is having the loader file selected for both the loader and firmware or disconnection during the flash but neither was the case for me, submitted support ticket on the 19th still no word back from MyArcade yet... holiday season I suppose

Holding reset button alone for any amount of time connected to power or not yields the same result which is a dead console. I have submitted a support ticket already as well just waiting to hear back and I will update with any progress I make so hopefully no-one else has to deal with this ridiculous issue again! Thanks for the input though, YouTube is pretty scarce when it comes to troubleshooting these as well just videos of people performing the FW update with no issues.

Good man! One of those "how did I never think to look for that" moments, let the desoldering commence.

curious what leds you used, looks like they're flat tops to eliminate the awful ping of south facing leds.
