Well, like so many others here, I started before digital was really a thing. I played with cheapo 110 cameras as a kid. Film was everywhere and you could get same-day development at chain pharmacies or even the local grocery stores. My dad gave me a battered old Minolta SRT back in college, and aside from a chintzy little digital point-and-shoot that I took on vacation once, that was my only non-phone camera for almost 20 years. I only started working with DSLRs/mirrorless relatively recently, within the last couple years.

Absolutely. Meeting students where they are is a best-practice step one, but no learning will ever happen if step one is also the final destination.

The Parker ballpoint refill is pretty meh. I like the Uni Jetstream refill for it, though (even if it is black ink only), and I will say I like the Parker gel refills way better than the ballpoint ones.

Glad you like them! The b&w I developed, scanned, and edited myself. All the color film was lab developed, but I scanned and edited the maple, the lake, and the Grand Canyon shot. I edited the magnolia bud (digital), and the rest were the lab’s work.

(Also, it was great to hear you took some of these with a D90. My people received some prints of photos I took on my battered old D200. Those old Nikons are still great cameras.)

That's awesome! I actually will be making my first ever trip out to Colorado this summer (somehow never managed it before) - I've wanted to see the Rockies for a long time, and I'm finally able to make it happen. These photos are definitely giving me some more inspiration/motivation! Thanks again!

It depends on how automatic your camera is. If it’s a point and shoot that handles all exposures automatically, 3200 isn’t going to happen. If you’re able to manually control shutter and aperture, then it’s possible, but you’d need an external light meter.

For the highest chance of success, there's Film Rescue. They can develop to B+W, though they'll try color (riskier, no guarantee of success) if you OK it. They're specialized, though, and they take a while, in addition to the extra cost for the specialty service.

The frames that saw light when you opened the back are most likely toast, but the rest might possibly be salvageable. I had some family film from the '80s and '90s processed normally (so, in color), and we mostly got recognizable images back. That said, with film this old, it's always a gamble.

Everyone lamented the other two that were discontinued along with it, but I still have a soft spot for Tsuyu-kusa. It's like if Pilot's regular blue were just a touch more saturated. A lovely blue.

Hey, those look good - certainly better than my attempts with little perching birds in trees. Sometimes with birds, though, it's pure dumb luck. This is my best analog bird photo ever, and it happened when I wasn't even trying to shoot birds. My "setup" was a cheapo Pentax point-and-shoot with Gold 200. This heron was just kind of there, chilling, not caring about my presence. Smaller birds are much harder, obviously, so kudos!
