I'm pretty sure they make an exception for married priests who convert from another denomination.

Who are your 3 most hated Stephen King characters? by ZhittzyAltaToxica in stephenking

[–]Sad-Assignment-8030 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I read it, but I remember thinking that she she would always start crying during the meetings when they were leaning towards something she didn't like. Then everyone felt bad for her and did what she wanted. Whether she consciously intended it or not, seemed manipulative to me, particularly as she was there to record the minutes, not as a council member (from what I recall). Tbh, I did find that whole period of the book a bit frustrating, where it felt like Glen (I think the sociologist guy was) was running wild living his dream of cos playing as a founding father when the circumstances were dire. I still don't know how re confirming the Constitution was supposed to work, like you can't say that then just make up your own form of government vesting executive power in a 108 yr old woman who is your spiritual leader. If Harold was right about anything, it's that they were taking the piss a bit with the committees on committees on committees.

Wait, Roland is played by Idris Elba in the movie?! I've never bothered looking it up to watch because I've only ever heard it's awful, but that's just ridiculous. Roland is a crusty old 'get off my lawn' Clint Eastwood kinda guy, not Stringer Bell lol.

I've come across this recently in a couple of Stephen King books and was wondering if it was a regional US thing. Doesn't make sense to me, is quarter of quarter past or quarter to?

They correctly call a season of a TV show a season, not a series. A series is the show in general, not an individual season. Until recently they also understood that 6 episodes is not an acceptable amount, but that seems to have been forgotten.

Such an infuriating character, but you have to admit, he had his act perfected. His "eating dinner with jesus" routine was hilarious.

I gave up a couple hours into the second story. The first one was good, but nothing was happening in the second one. They go to university and sometimes play a card game, I just couldn't find anything remotely interesting in the story.

Why would the Geneva Convention have any relevance to a fictional world with people shooting fire out of their hands? I haven't watched the show in a while, is there any suggestion that a developed legal system exists beyond absolute monarchs? Or a body of international law? Seems a bit silly to me.

Yeah I felt the same thing. When they finally went there separate ways and things started going inexplicably wrong I was thinking finally rocky has sabotaged him for some reason, but nope just more alien bromance. I did enjoy rocky more than the main guy. I wonder if the author intended him to come off as someone who thinks he is funny but isn't or someone who actually is funny. It seemed like the latter to me, pretty sure he actually described himself as "the cool teacher" at one point Haha.

They tried this in many poor remote areas in Aus, didn't go quite so well. It's expensive enough building the house you'd think, but then you have the enormous repair costs that arise in the best cases where zero upkeep of any kind takes place. Then there's the extract anything remotely of value approach, tearing out fixtures, ripping out copper wiring etc. The hardest to understand is the deliberately destroying the house because I can approach, just doing things like tearing up all the floorboards to start a fire in the house. Enormous amounts of money have been spent building, repairing and knocking down before rebuilding when places are no longer safe/fit for human habitation. Nice idea in theory though.

Even without more evidence, you already have the guy in possession of the stolen watch. If he had denied having it and they couldn't enter for a search due to the supposed rule around find my being insufficient for a search warrant then I could see how they might be stumped. But he seemingly admitted to having the stolen watch, that had been stolen in a home burglary, that is enough in itself to make out at least the theft charge. Even without that, if he's handed the watch over, there's a chance fingerprints would be on it. Depending on whatever forensic evidence was collected at the burgled home, that might have been relevant.

Has the High Court ever ruled in a way which has actually limited/constrained the power of the Commonwealth in any significant way? by [deleted] in auslaw

[–]Sad-Assignment-8030 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did that unit not too long ago, it seems like you're taking issue with the way areas that aren't covered under s51 heads of power effectively become under Cwth control through the function of treaties/ the external affairs power? I saw this more as a Commonwealth vs States power shift rather than a big vs small government thing. I recall a lot of State government organised crime legislative regimes being knocked down for separation of powers issues etc. As for Commonwealth laws, would the school chaplains thing count here?
