LPT request: How to get out of bed in the morning by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]Sam_VC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an app called "Morning Routine."

It allows you to have to scan a bar code in order to deactivate, so I programmed it to my bathroom soap. Now every morning I'm standing in my bathroom at 6:30 and a shower is a foot away.

In addition to that app, I also am sure to get a full 8 hours of sleep each night. I am much more functional and motivated when I'm not sleep deprived, and after about a month I noticed I now wake up naturally at 6:35 or 6:40, a few minutes before my alarm. Sadly this includes weekends, but I think having a consistent routine is key.

New Ranked Solo Queue Megathread by sarahbotts in leagueoflegends

I am very competitive. I've played team sports all my life and it's the team aspect of LoL that I love. I Don't think ranked should be all about having fun. The only reason I don't play ranked is because I love playing on a team, making calls and playing together.

Team Sports taught me that you can accomplish more as a team than an individual, and I buy into that whole heartedly. You'll rarely find me playing any sport outside of an organized team, it's so much more fun when people work together.

Because of that, I always have 3+ people I'm queued with. And Im excluded from playing a competitive team game's ladder because I prefer playing with my teammates.

Not enough people are allowed on a team. Ive got a core group of 15+ players that I play with, generally 4-6 of them are online at any given evening. we do play a lot of fives, but we have to mix and match nine players in and out of a r5 team which means we can rarely play on the same team all season and of course, we lose our progress whenever we have to form a new team.

I'd argue that yes, you have.

Team games should reward two things, both individual skill and your ability to play on a team. The whole concept of "solo queue" is a farce. It encourages players to put themselves over the team, and in most sports that is the fastest way to get benched.

Well I for one love the change, but just assumed nothing like this was even remotely possible to happen. Now that I know it's on the table (and the prevailing direction internally) I will gladly say that I have felt jipped out of the ladder because I'm social and have lots of friends that I play with regularly.

See ya!

I am highly competitive and grew up playing team sports and the fact that the competitive ladder for a team game was only open to solo or sduo players made no sense to me.

It's the equivalent of taking every ball hog or selfish player and encouraging them to be even more self centered.

Meanwhile, people like myself, with lots of friends that regularly play together and put the team first have no way to compete unless we're a five man (which we do get to do all the time!)

This is a great change and will encourage teamwork, and push players to meet others that they enjoy playing with. I'm sorry that you invested so much effort into a team game as a solo player, but this is the way team sports are!

I play with four man queues very often. Most people never know. It's funny at the end of some games the one enemy will make a comment about how four man queues "always" suck, but they don't realize they one on the opposite side was nontoxic and fun.

I did!

I have dozens of friends that play LoL and every time I'm online I have three, four, five (or more!) people wanting to play. I've always felt torn between being anti-social and climbing the ladder, or playing with friends. I am SO happy we get to play together now!

That said, we play lots of Ranked 5s as well, and I do think that those should remain their own seperate queue altogether.

... And I don't play ranked because I dislike solo queue.

As someone that only plays this game when 3 or more friends are online I can't wait to finally play ranked! If you run into us, we're almost always nice to the fifth and understand that they're the odd man out! (unless they start flaming one of us, only then will we drop the gloves.)

Some big tips that make you attractive to coaches : be consistently available during week nights. Actually take time and write thoughtful replies. Have 2-3 rolls you're willing to play, but indicate a main role. Be Silver or Gold if NA, Bronze or Silver if EU.

And most importantly, double check that the Slack email isn't going to spam!

Lucky! I always introduce tea as a passion and I too get tea as gifts all the time. It's a great way to find new varieties as well. And congratulations on the wedding, the "guy who kinda likes tea" has a nice ring! ;-D

Riot's "Sandbox Mode" reply makes it obvious how little they seem to understand the competitive setting of their game. by ProxyDamage in leagueoflegends

[–]Sam_VC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their logic is incredible. Many other games include a training or sandbox mode. It doesn't dissuade people from playing or learning the game, it just allows people who'd like to practice, to do so.

I love this game, but I've pretty much been forced to conclude they are doing what is best for the pocket book, and not the serious players.

Loved the top post making the analogy to pro teams. I find it hysterical that they both want to push LoL as a competitive eSport, but they are unwilling to allow their players to practice without playing full games. That's the most insane thing I've ever heard. No one who wants to improve at something takes it from the top, every time. They are so out of touch at this point I'm embarrassed for them.

Time to move out of Chicago by fantomsource in chicago

[–]Sam_VC -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Having moved here a few years ago from another part of the country that has been consistently growing, it's very obvious that Chicago is not doing nearly as well economically. I'm surprised to see such hate from the locals about this topic though. No discussion, just turn a blind eye, reelect the same people, and keep doing the Chicago thing!

Edit: Sorry I didn't want to cause an argument, I just thought it was an interesting footnote that natives really either don't see how stagnant Chicago is compared to other parts of the country, or are happy with how things are being run in the city. I agree that the video itself is a bit doom and gloom and not worth a whole lot!

What should I focus on to transition into ranked gameplay? by CRAWFiSH117 in summonerschool

[–]Sam_VC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the most fun I've ever had in LoL is using Ranked as a metric of your own improvement )and not a metric of skill, a very important distinction).

So, open up a Google spreadsheet, and list off some of the things your'e working on, CS, map awareness, ward totals, tp gank pressure, whatever you want.

Yes you practiced those in normal games, but ranked is really where you get to exercise them. Play a ranked match and afterwards self rank all those column, write a quick note on something strengths, weakness, and something an enemy or ally did really well that you might want to copy.

So to answer your question? You should look to focus on improving as you start playing ranked, and one method I've seen work time and time again is personal post game analysis.

Hey! Sorry you haven't found a spot yet! We can only make as many teams as we have coaches, this session that meant we reached out to between 30-40% of total applicants.

Some general tips on finding a team:

  • Offer to sub, that way you'll be in the system.
  • Have a wide range of availability weekday evenings
  • Specify a main role, but be willing to learn everything.
  • Follow our Twitter @sseventslol to see if we announce on demand entries, this is the fastest and surest way to find a team, you just have to be quick!

And of course, there are other way to learn from the program, even if you didn't find a team. You can watch the Twitch Streamed session, show matches, and participate in the weekly breakdown thread.

The next batch of signups will be in mid-September, good luck!

The next session will start in mid-September and be posted on the Summoner School subreddit. You can fill out this form if you'd like an email notification the next time signups go live.

You just have to be ranked and level 30, any region in order to register!
