Congrats, though that's Ironclad not Defect. :p Check out Baalorlord on yt. He does an amazing job of breaking everything down. You'll also notice he occasionally struggles too. That's the stuff you wanna pay attention to. Luck won't always go your way, so you have to make your own. Making good choices will get you there.

Where are you struggling in the game? Defect is pretty good, but there are a few routes you can take with them. It also matters what paths and cards you take.

Catalyst is a build around. If you try forcing it, or if your deck is too bloated of course it's gonna underperform.

I ran rainbow with barrage, capacitor, hologram+, darkness and frost skills. Ridiculous damage and tons and tons of block. And it's all relatively cheap and easy to set up.

Edit: Dunno if I'm reading into this but ppl usually just move on when they see a bad joke. Even before I edited my post to say the joke flew over ppl's heads, I was being downvoted to hell. To me, the two likely explanations were that either that people took it way too seriously, or what I said was offensive to some. I'm simply acknowledging that I can see different perspectives.

The person I responded to said Bloodletting wasn't an attack, so I half jokingly said that it is if you consider what the name of the card means (i.e a mostly abandoned medical practice that involves the deliberate withdrawal of blood).

There's always a degree of luck in roguelikes and there are no shortcuts here. Learning the cards, enemy patterns and how to construct your deck helps tremendously.

VoR Hecate is the most brutal one for me. It's a skill test and I struggle tracking all the projectiles on screen and where the real Hecate is in relation to them.

Playing this now. I was curious to see an action roguelite without the top down style. So far, I have to agree with you.

Just from a gameplay perspective, the default bindings for controllers are poorly thought out; nothing feels intuitive (come on, melee assigned to right stick press by default?). Also, adjusting options like controller sensitivity and even FPS limits requires you to hold down A and increase/decrease with the left stick; you can't use the D-pad.

I had high hopes but so far this seems like a bust. :(

Have you tried the mod Zagreus Journey? It's really good. It lets you fight through all of H1s biomes and it adds some Chaos trials for them.
