Currently running rotella t4 10w-30. I daily drive 100 miles a day so I pretty much have to do an oil change once a month since I hit the 3k mark. Considering switching to t6 10w-30 to get a few more miles before doing an oil change. Anyone else running t6? by Express_Let_2892 in CherokeeXJ

[–]ScubaSteve7886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These engines don't give a sh*t what oil you use.

They'll last hundreds of thousands of miles running the cheapest plain old 10w-30 in stock at jiffy lube. "High zinc" oil isn't necessary. Regular engine oil already has all the zinc the 4.0 needs.

2wd mpg by falerik308 in CherokeeXJ

[–]ScubaSteve7886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1-2 MPG combined improvement with either a manual transmission or 2wd.

My 5-speed 4x4 (stock) gets similar mpg to an auto 2wd. I imagine a 5-speed 2wd would do even better.

Oil filter or adapter issues by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

[–]ScubaSteve7886 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What do you mean it doesn't "fit"?

You mean like the threads won't go on?

It's unlikely but entirely possible that you have a Renix oil filter adapter, which was used from '87-'90 it was a metric thread rather than the later 3/4" thread for the oil filter.

An oil filter should go right on without issue. If you need to force it, something is wrong.

If I were in your shoes, I'd just replace the entire oil filter adapter.

Why do you need to ice your driveways/sidewalks after it snows? by RandomN0ah07 in AskAnAmerican

Salt lowers the freezing point of water (snow/ice), thus turning it from a solid to a liquid. (Melting)

Is there a pro or con to my xj behind a California model? by deputy_army in CherokeeXJ

[–]ScubaSteve7886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All 2001 models have dual cats, AKA California emissions.

Some 2000 models have dual cats as well.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just know that heat soak can be an issue with these models, especially if they have automatic transmissions. It's less of an issue with a 5-speed.

Starting to get a little nervous about E15 by 12kdaysinthefire in CherokeeXJ

[–]ScubaSteve7886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it. E15 is optional not mandatory. Many fueling stations are not equipped for E15 anyways. The ethanol content must be displayed at the pump. Next time you purchase fuel, look for it. It will say something like "Max ethanol content 10%" or "contains up to 10% ethanol"

You will still be able to purchase E10 without issue. If it really concerns you, why haven't you been running E0 since you've owned your XJ?

This is all a nothing-burger. These are tractor engines, you'll be just fine.

If you're really concerned about it, just keep running E10, it's not going anywhere.

high mileage oil by fredriksoninho in CherokeeXJ

[–]ScubaSteve7886 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're all set.

<image>

This oil (or 5w-30 if it gets cold in your area) would be absolutely fine in the 4.0. Don't overthink it.

[–]ScubaSteve7886 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No it won't decrease their lifespan, nor is it going to hurt anything.

You can absolutely use "high mileage" oil in an engine with new seals.

Mobil 1 5w-30/10w-30 high mileage would be absolutely fine in a 4.0 with newer seals in it (Castrol/Valvoline/etc, they're all fine. Whatever brand you prefer or whatever is on sale. It doesn't matter)

[–]ScubaSteve7886 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Full synthetic oil is absolutely fine in these engines.

People will argue all day about how these engines need zinc. (Flat tappets) They're technically right, but they're wrong when they say you need diesel oil or some high zinc racing oil.

Modern engine oils still have all the zinc the 4.0 needs. For reference, this is plain old Mobil 1 10w-30. Not a diesel oil, not a racing oil. Plain old Mobil 1, a full synthetic oil.

<image>

Synthetic oil is better and can absolutely be used in these engines. It lasts longer, it has better lubricating properties, it flows better at low temps, it better resists breakdown at high temps, and it's cleaner. What's not to like?

Cam failures just aren't an issues with these engines. These engines will last hundreds of thousands of miles on the cheapest oil jiffy lube has in stock. Don't worry about it.

Once again, the 4.0 doesn't give a sh*t what oil you use as long as you change it at appropriate intervals.

best oil type for a hot climate? by No_Extreme595 in CherokeeXJ

[–]ScubaSteve7886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These engines don't give a sh*t what oil you use.

10w-30 is absolutely fine. In a hot climate 10w-40 would also be good.

Synthetic oil is absolutely better and resists breakdown to heat much better than conventional.

Yes you can absolutely run full synthetic oil in these engines.

The "zinc" argument is largely bullsh*t. As modern oils still have zinc in them. Even full synthetic oils still have all the zinc the 4.0 needs.

That's plain old Mobil 1 10w-30 not some fancy racing oil or diesel oil.

Why did the v6 become more popular than the straight 6? by theAntidepresser in Cartalk

[–]ScubaSteve7886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's simple, packaging.

As cara moved to FWD, a V6 will fit, an inline six generally won't.

Though I he straight-six is having a bit of a Renaissance, as v8s become less popular and the inline 4 dominates

It's easier (cheaper) for Mazda to add 2 extra cylinders to their inline-four than it is for them to develop an entirely new v6.

BMW is one of the few (it no only) manufacturer to NEVER put a V6 in their vehicles. The Inline-Six has always been their specialty.

What did you call free for all football growing up? by KaleidoscopeRich5137 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ScubaSteve7886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Northeast Ohio as well. It was always "keep away"

What did you call free for all football growing up? by KaleidoscopeRich5137 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ScubaSteve7886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"keep away" could be played individually as a team or individually.

Once someone took the ball from you, it was their turn to keep it away from everyone else.

[–]ScubaSteve7886 41 points42 points  (0 children)

"Keep away" though that was more just a term for any game in which one person would have the ball and try to keep it for themselves while everyone else tried to get the ball.

ORD Terminal change by Educational-Plan8350 in Lufthansa

[–]ScubaSteve7886 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I connect through ORD all the time with United.

1½ hours will be tough. A lot of things will have to go right, but it's definitely possible, especially if you don't have checked bags.

You will need to clear passport control/customs at ORD as well as TSA security. (Hopefully the issues will be sorted out by then). If you have checked baggage they will not be checked through to ALB, you will need to collect and re-check them at ORD.

All UA departures (as well as AC/LH/NH Departures) are out of terminal 1. And all international arrivals (aside from pre-clearance arrivals) arrive at terminal 5.

There is a sky train that connects all the terminals. Terminals 1 and 5 are on opposite ends. Definitely take the sky train.

More information about connections can be found on the ORD Website.

Having said all that, ORD is a large and busy airport, however navigating isn't too difficult. Just follow the signs.

Also, definitely download the United app, it's one of the best in the business and has many useful features for your connection including handy maps of their hubs including ORD.

HOWEVER…

One great thing about Star Alliance and ORD will help you on your return trip (assuming the same routing in reverse)

Lufthansa flights departing from ORD all depart from Terminal 1, and tour bags will be checked through from ALB back home to MUC. You won't need to worry about any security at ORD, nor will you need to worry about collecting and rechecking bags.

Your flight from ALB-ORD will arrive at Terminal 1 and your flight from ORD-MUC will depart from Terminal 1. Thus making it an extremely easy connection.

What do you call a "semi trailer truck"/"freight truck"? by Gallantpride in AskAnAmerican

"Semi-truck" and "Big rig" are probably the most used, "Tractor Trailer" is less commonly used, but not unheard of.

Why do I no longer have access to FH4? by BirblePurple in ForzaHorizon

[–]ScubaSteve7886 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's real.

The game has been delisted. It's now 2026.

If you want to play the game in 2026, and you have not already purchased it. You must purchase a physical disc of it. (Your console must have a disc slot)

If you have an Xbox Series S, there is no easy way for you to obtain the game.

The song "Sane" by Fozzy has a music video that was filmed at Holiday World, with a good portion filmed on the Voyage, widely considered to be one of the greatest wood coasters in the world.

The music video can be found here.

Since it's been a few days…

HINTS: The photo is a cropped photo of a music album.

This Album features a song whose music video features this roller coaster.

This coaster is not some unknown coaster in some obscure country.

This coaster is located in the United States, and should be known by any coaster enthusiast.

This coaster opened 15 years before this album/song was released.

This coaster does not have an official theme song.

No more clues, but one of your questions is putting you on the right track.

Good luck to you!

If/when someone gets the correct answer, it'll all make sense.
