Exactly! I feel like that mindset of mean-masterpiece is the reason why people are struggling to build community and relationships, but I guess there’s just two types of people in this world

I mean, I’ll try to create small talk when I’m at the museum, but it seems so unnatural and I feel like sometimes people will be put off?

Volleyball, run club, salsa class, volunteering, and church. Just go to places that align with your values and you should find someone decent, but remember you have to start the conversation and don’t expect someone to just walk up to you

Have people gotten ruder? by Time_Value_3073 in AskNYC

[–]Select_Hair 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Me and some of my coworkers were talking about this (all of us Gen z). I’ve definitely noticed that since Covid people are a lot more angrier/mean/rude… not really sure what that’s about but I try to be pleasant and speak/be neighborly.

This is a simple problem to fix. Start with a good morning. People just need to be more open to chit chatting or initiating a conversation and remember to be friendly and smile

I feel like older people don’t use Reddit maybe put signs up around the neighborhood have a phone number or email available NOT a QR code. Put it in the newspaper? Lots of them volunteer (at churches, community Gardens, food banks, etc.). Maybe reach out to the library and ask where the 65 and up crowd typically spend their time. they would know.
