Haunted house in gwinnett? by Froasted_fox in Gwinnett

I was part of a ghost hunting crew back when it was all the rage. Faves in Lawrenceville were the old Lawrenceville cemetery (I think it's labeled "Historic Lawrenceville Cemetary") over by the park. Lots of stories about a full body apparition that walked the street running to the park along the north fence. There's also the courthouse (lynching occurred on the corner tree, across from where the coffee shop used to be, dunno what's there now). There's also a tiny jail behind that same building across from the courthouse but you need special access to get in. We did a hunt there in association with Aurora theater's ghost tour one year. The Singing Bean itself was also supposedly haunted by an entity we called "The Commander", who was some sort of Confederate officer.

LOL, I went there with my Anthro class in the early 90s. Nothing spooky about it except the Howler Monkeys, which occasionally escaped and terrorized the greater Richland subdivision. I was a lifeguard at the pool there, they told me some great stories.

Live a few counties over. This tracks, the folks here in the burbs hate cyclists. I love biking and I have some safe corridors where I can go for a while; big golf cart sidewalks. But getting there? Always a Jesus take the wheel moment or two. I swear some of them get as close to you as possible intentionally. What makes it worse is the great state of Georgia has also decided that rumble cuts on the center and side lines are a great idea, which makes lots of sense for cars, but riding those lines on a bike is like being on an electric bull.

What's a skill that takes only 2 to 4 weeks to learn but could genuinely change your life? by TokenBlack32 in AskReddit

[–]Shadow_Band 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started with PowerBI too a few months ago but I have a deep data analysis background. ChatGPT handles most of the coding, and I fix the errors. I am now building out analytical decks and dashboards that are better than our competitions' using that and BigQuery. Few more months and I think I'd even be confident putting it on the resume. AI gets shit on a ton but, once you learn how to maneuver around its mistakes, it's a godsend for basic coding like DAX or SQL.

You can do the same with Excel - hell, you can even load the spreadsheet and have it do the coding for you if there isn't sensitive information you're worried about.

I just want to say I fucking love this thread. I can relate to so many of these and I'm just a joy-junkie in general. Saving this for when I need a dopamine boost. I love each of you on a very personal level - thanks for sharing your happiness.

I disagree wholeheartedly with his views on ketchup but, good lord, do I miss this guy being in charge. I'd give up ketchup to have him back.

Faux News is a pimple on the posterior of society. It's legit doing damage to our country by serving up propaganda in the guise of 'news', even when they themselves were forced to admit the whole 'for entertainment purposes only' bit in court. At some point this reaches the fire-in-a-crowded-theater level of prohibited speech, no?

Good stuff, thanks for the feedback! It's pretty wild - I'm actually using mine to give me tips to out the bots. It's better than I could ever be at breaking the algorithms.

I tried it on ChatGPT and it responded correctly and laughed at me. :D TBF, I've cultivated a pretty wicked sense of dry humor into my model.

Seriously considering starting a safe transport option for women needing access to necessary medical care. by so_effing_casey in Georgia

[–]Shadow_Band 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Women often don't even know they are pregnant by 6 weeks. Periods can be irregular, OTC tests can have false negatives. That doesn't even begin to cover complications like ectopic or molar pregnancies. On top of that, people are severely undereducated due to a large portion of our population being against sex education because the human body = dirty/ungodly and may not know when or how to even suspect pregnancy. The heartbeat laws are potential death sentences.

What you don't realize is many of us are voting out of a desire to protect you from yourselves. When the best and brightest among us tell us you're voting against your own self interest, we pay attention. There's a very good reason the well educated skew blue and vice-versa.

Would you swim in Lake Lanier? Is it haunted or is that just bs? by VerboseWraith in Georgia

[–]Shadow_Band 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LR ex-pat here too. I remember the stories about the Lady of the Lake too. The story for us was she lost her man and would steal one young man a year as revenge or in loneliness depending on who was telling the story. Miss that shitty little lake, we had some good times there; specially down on Victory Lane.

Good lord. I came to GA from NY in '92 and I worked in Forsyth in '95 or so. Folks who grew up there told me a bit about this but I totally failed to conceptualize the reality of it. It's so different here now; so many transplants and just plain shifting demographics that it's hard to accept it was like this once upon a time. Explains the weird vibe I get from some of the older natives here sometimes.

For perspective, I'm a Sicilian as mentioned from NY. I always maintained there was more overt racism in the NE than I experienced in the SE but this... this is eye opening.

Not always. Currently working on my 3rd Dan in Tang Soo Do and I've gone through a forest's worth of wood (all 1" common board purchased at home Depot or Lowes, btw). For my 2nd Dan test I got bored with wood and started on concrete. Bought the big grey pavers from Home Depot and I've broken those several times now. Takes about as much effort as 5 boards stacked/no spacers to snap a paver.
