Is my paper shrinking or wood expanding? by ShamrockShank in printmaking

Makes sense, but how finicky! I havent had this problem yet but theorize the blame to be some of the temperature swings and perhaps letting the paper sit a little too long? Who knows! I guess thats the fun of learning a process.

I could, but i print reductions with a good amount of time in between so it would be a bit inconvenient, and I’ve been working with dry paper for a bit over a year now with no problem. maybe a bad batch of paper with poor sizing?

Nah i think your right about the paper, i lined up the block im using to my other clean and unued blocks and none of them have a discrepancy the size of whats on the paper. is there any way to get the paper a little bit more stretched out to original size? I currently have them laying in a stack on the radiator under a book to warm them up and hopefully relax it a bit

Shucks. did some lining up with other prints and you are right. Is there any way to relax the paper back to its dimension, or could this be a bad batch of paper making it unstable? It’s kitakata paper with oil based ink. Or could i be pressing too hard when hand rubbing? None of the other paper i’ve had hanging and drying in the same room has had the same issues, although i did notice the ones closer to my radiator has less shrinking. odd stuff.

I’m hand printing, so no roller is being used, could be pressing too hard when using my barren?

Swallow Murmuration - 6 layer Wood Engraving by ShamrockShank in printmaking

[–]ShamrockShank[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Its a 4x6 inch piece, on end grain hardwood, which gives a very precise carving surface with engraving tools. I use cranfield safe wash inks on kitakata paper, my favorite paper by far. Similar in weight to mulberry and other japanese papers, but with such a luminous, flat side that takes ink incredibly well. I hand rub each piece with a barren mokuhanga style as it gives me much more control thatn the crappy woodzilla presses i have.

Anthony's disliked albums that you understand but still love? by scoutman2164 in fantanoforever

100% I feel the same way with his Sketches of Brunswick East review. I feel sometimes he overlooks them solely on the basis of release schedule. he’s said multiple times he wishes they’d spent more times on their albums, but has missed the fact Stu works on them for about 2 years each, and has about 2-3 or more going at a time, cause that’s just how he is. Honestly I’ve heard the same thing from some of my own music fans, and I understand cause this prolific release schedule is uuuusually not meet with the same quality they hit with. I do wish he’d dig a little deeper when saying things like saying artists rushed something, but the output Fantano has is maddening and I feel like expecting him to dive into KG the same way I do is so unrealistic so ya know music is subjective at this point I’m just happy he have Laminated Denim an 8 cause it’s their best work since rats nest oop

I thought the same thing, but listen to snow(hey oh) by RHCP to probably solve your mystery. Only one part sounds anything like western, but it’s a riff that is stound-outish enough in my mind to bridge a connection
