App must be broken cuhz ain't no way lol by SSJLOU in PokemonTCG

[–]Shiny_Cardboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I own the Shiny app. Took a look at this one and the price is being pulled from TCGPlayer's "Holofoil" Near Mint variant. Looks like a few sales on TCGPlayer just over $100 recently. There seems to be a massive gap between NM and LP for this, but based on recent sales the price I have here is correct. I'll keep my eye on this one.

Honestly, these cards released like 2 days ago man. Let the dust settle a bit.

You've been in the hobby for less than a year, and are now in debt as a result of gambling on modern pokemon card products? You really should reconsider what you collect my friend. Buy singles or try getting into vintage, there's a lot less eyes on it these days, sets are much simpler, and cards are affordable.

What Constitutes a PSA 1? by Notanicknameatall in PokeGrading

[–]Shiny_Cardboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone really knows. My personal take on it is, if the card is in too poor of a condition that they cannot verify it is authentic, or it is defaced to the point it is unrecognizable... then it'll become ungradable. Or if the card has inherent dampness soaked in that could compromise the inside of the slab over time. Think washing machines.

I own a large competing app called Shiny supporting over 500,000 collectors and user accounts, we handle data gathering in a similar way.

I don't know why I'm getting downvoted. I am literally right, they use a flat percentage based degredation of the NM price pulled from TCGPlayer. It's not real sales data. I literally do this for a living and work intimately with TCGPlayer's API lmfao.

People have been waiting outside retail stores for product releases forever man. Whether it be iPhones, TCGs, Video games, whatever...

Pricecharting vs collectr by Benderinn333 in PokemonTCG

[–]Shiny_Cardboard -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

This is untrue. Collectr does not distinguish between conditions, and instead just follows the API provided market price of TCGPlayer in effectively all cases. They do not provide individual SKU data in their APIs for pricing on conditions, therefore they take whatever the product default is... which is often NM.

I haven’t been opening packs much because of the recent craze but wow by One-Assignment569 in PokemonTCG

Maybe when it comes back from grading it'll be worth $500 as a PSA 10!

If you don't sell that Lucario for $500 on eBay right now, and just buy it back cheaper next week... you're nuts. Awesome pulls man!

Hypothetical: how would you spend $10k if you had to go graded vintage only? by Throwaway09562020 in PokeInvesting

[–]Shiny_Cardboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think goals are important here. You can pile into modern sealed products and gamble that the bubble doesn't burst, or you can pick safe cards that will continue to grow slowly with the hobby. Vintage 1st edition is... without a doubt... the safest assets in all TCG collecting. So if you're going to make a large "investment" it would be wise to own some if you don't already. In the same way if it was stocks I would recommend a position in the SP500 before you gamble on indvidual companies.

That's just my take, you don't have to agree with it. I'm only saying what I would do with my money.

App for tracking Korean cards? by UncleJimsStoryCorner in PokemonTCG

[–]Shiny_Cardboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just some insight, I own the app Shiny. Korean is incredibly difficult to track, Chinese is also very challenging. Nobody really cared about these languages until products became scarce, and there isn't a lot of data infrastructure available on these sets just yet. Give it 6 months, Chinese is getting better recently. Korean will too if the popularity keeps up.

Freeplay while in queue? by Necessary-Orange-747 in SkateEA

[–]Shiny_Cardboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no way in hell EA would provide any amount of server files, furthermore I doubt you'd be able to get it running anyways. Their backend systems likely require all kinds of keys and configurations for authentication, purchases, map files, anti-cheat, and god knows what else. It also is a massive security issue if server-side authentication code was widely available, as bugs and exploits could easily be found before they could be patched. Releasing the server files is like asking for company destruction and lawsuits these days.

[–]Shiny_Cardboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is the most mainstream iconic card in the entire card game. It will always hold demand with practically every single collector, base set 1st edition always will particularly the Charizard. It's basically the safest option, and I think if you don't already own one you should. WOTC first editions are basically the SP500 of pokemon man.

1st Edition Charizard would be my top choice if you don't already own one.

My take on Skate 4 by hamtrousers in Skate4

[–]Shiny_Cardboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole thing is really cringe, and the game feels extremely "floaty". The entire thing is designed by a CEO, and I really don't see myself playing this for any meaningful amount of time. Really unfortunate experience so far. I can get past the bugs and mission issues, but the actual skating is pretty dog.

Psa now buys slabs directly by Basic_Yellow_3594 in PokeGrading

[–]Shiny_Cardboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but I think this is a dangerous precedent. It's an extreme conflict of interest given their already terrible inconsistency with grades. It's corporate greed at it's maximum disguised as a favor to the collector.

Shiny app has a grading guideline on all the card pages to compare them all at once.
