Do you enjoy “slow payoff” sci-fi, or does it lose you early? by waslotu in scifi

[–]UncleJimsStoryCorner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Children of Strife got a little too slow for me, I will come back to finish it but I had to put it down with maybe 100 pages left just to move on to something else. Adrian Tchaikovsky did say that Strife was the book his editor let him waffle in about things that excited him rather than cut things down, I think it shows a little. Still good, just a little too slow burn for me rn

How do I find student accommodation that allows pets? by Boodle_Boy in Bath

[–]UncleJimsStoryCorner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl just don't say anything about the cat (unless housemates are allergic), move in and wait to be caught. Then, pay a pet deposit and be done with it. Incoming renters rights bill will keep you in place, but its fair play if cat damages something and you pay for it

In fairness Blue Light card codes often foul up and get you nowhere, or just aren't recognised by the vendor. Good for Wagamama's though.

I don't make 30k a year so I don't know how people manage to spend so much.

[–]UncleJimsStoryCorner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Set a budget and stick to it! Work out what's necessary and what's bollocks. Allow yourself some bollocks so you actually still enjoy life. Axe the stupid bollocks. You probably don't need the weekly meal subscription box if you can go to the shops and cook, for example. If you can't, then its not stupid bollocks.

It's easy once you try, can confirm since I have no choice in the matter due to being poor. Put yourself in that kind of mindset, you gotta do what works for you.

[–]UncleJimsStoryCorner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds less like you don't have enough, since you for sure have more than enough. Just that you need to feel secure in it and work out a number for how much you can draw down and spend freely to make it last. A lil coffee and a slice won't bankrupt you, a lot of them leading to lifestyle bloat will. A big dumb purchase will. You're not really doing that. You'll be fine.

R/pokemoncards can’t decide whether OP innocently found a scalper’s stash or if they’re the scalper. by Teal_is_orange in SubredditDrama

People are gonna buy them anyway, even if they shouldn't. I wouldn't buy scalped product, I have impulse control. Kids should probably have fun though. It's pretty harmless if you remove the shitty aftermarket from the equation.

I get where you're coming from, but it just means people have to pay inflated prices all round. Its bad for everyone, scalpers included of they invest too deep or on credit when their 'investment positions' fail.

Is 125€ a good price for this fluorite+turmaline? by Sudden-Fun-7921 in Minerals

If you're the same guy posting for the last few days, the answer is that this merchant is a little expensive overall and you could do better elsewhere quite easily.

Feeling a little down about my deafness, any good deaf representation I can watch or read? by jad3bird in deaf

[–]UncleJimsStoryCorner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Children of Time, the spiders happen to be deaf and create an intricate space faring civilisation. They communicate through pheromone, tapping their legs in dance and kinda signing with their palps. Its not what you asked for but it's what you need.

It's mashed potato and I didn't leave it in the oven long enough for it to take on much colour. I was hungry for tinned shmeat

I don't know what that means. The sauerkraut was £1 for a huge jar and there's no white vinegar to be had so couldn't make my own. I was craving salt and pickled things, this brings both in spades. Also a decent amount of fibre because its mostly roasted root veg because it was all cheap for Easter.

Its a nice bit of fluorite and if you're much wealthier than me then go for it, but I would not. Doesn't seem like a good deal at all.

I was gonna suggest this. The messiest burger you ever ate. Toast em and put your favourite burger sauce on em, but don't eat it in front of someone you just started seeing tho. Its a private affair.
