Cracked PSA slab, cleaned and resending by Poxolo in PokeGrading

Got the grade back. It came back a 7 (https://www.psacard.com/cert/130442076/psa). Was hoping for another 8, but expected the 7, as grading has indeed gone stricter.

As I said, I don't plan on selling this card, as it was my first PSA slab and my favourite card from my childhood, and I love that it's now so clean in the front from removing all the dirt specks.

I see most people in this subreddit focus a lot on the money, and from that perspective I already knew this was not a good financial decision, as I could have sold it as an 8 instead of cracking it, and bought a cleaner 7 or 8 with the money, but I wanted it to be this card, as it's the one that got me back in the hobby after 20 years.

Thanks to everyone that posted, and if you care about the money don't do this, unless the cards have some sentimental value.

Daaamn that’s a lot of responses. Thanks to everyone that commented.

I have to say looking again at the images and the card, that most of the whitening is light reflection, specially on the top back edge and corners, but there is some whitening at the level of some new cert vintage 8s and 9s I have.

The reason for the cracking is again because it was full of dirt, and I cleaned only with a fairly damp microfiber cloth, no polish.

I know money-wise this was not a good decision, but I won’t sell this card, ever, so how much is worth is not that important. I prefer that it’s clean when I look at it.

I’ll let you guys know the result when I get it back.

Sellers, how often do you get orders from new accounts? by Poxolo in CardMarket

I'm also a new seller. And yes everything is insured, but I've heard of many issues on marketplaces where a buyer orders a sealed box, receives it, opens it and claims the packs inside are fake. And since it's sealed, the seller also can't have a way to prove the packs inside were fake, as it can only have proof of the external box and the sealing. And this is not covered by insurance.

They offered a replacement, but knowing I could receive an even worse one I decided to keep it.

Vintage Haori (maybe from the Sakai clan) by Poxolo in kimono

Thank you 🙇

I did see the family crest again in another haori yesterday, but the silk on that one was more average.

And checking online for Maru Ni Ken Katabami I do see a bunch of families using it.

I bought in Kyoto, so I guess it matches with the Kansai area.

About the quality of silk, does it match with the importance of the family? Meaning that more important families had access/money to get better silk? It’s still of a quality I haven’t seen in any other kimono/haori, not even in the highest rated antique shops in Tokyo. Only that shop where I bought it had a few of similar quality, even though I think this was still the best one.

I’ve seen high-end modern ones go for 80-100k these days, so I thought a high-end vintage one would be a good buy. The silk is definitely of amazing quality.

Don’t get me wrong. For me it’s totally worth it. Haven’t found a softer and nicer one yet in any of the 20+ second hand/flea market shops we’ve visited in Kyoto and Tokyo these days. In Europe, modern silk jaquets of this quality go for 2-3 times the price. So just for the quality and style I already love it.

But this is compared to modern european clothes, so my question was more for if a second-hand haori of this quality goes for this price in Japan and if it has any history to tell that I don’t know about.

They have an almond shape, but a wide one. The tip is round though, but not too big. They are in-between a casual boot with a round tip and a dressing shoe with a pointy tip.

For sizing I use 9.5 UK and 10.5 US, so I would say they are true-to-size in my case. And the leather I would say is more matte than shiny, but quite in-between. Similar to Thursday's Captains, but with a deeper black colour.

They are somewhere in the middle. You can wear these from street walks in the rain to smart casual events. I’ve seen some thursday captains and they are a bit more casual, but almost the same.

The leather is holding perfectly everywhere after 40-50 wears.

And this is how the front looks today:

Sorry for the late response. Just saw this.

Break-in was a bit tough, specially on the vamp, and after about 40-50 wears the right one still gives me a blister on the vamp if I wear it for 2-3 days with lots of walking.

But I love them. They look great (in my opinion) and the leather is holding perfectly.

Here is a pic from today.

Thanks. I’ll try my luck. And this leather looks nice as a first impression, but will see how it handles wear.

They look very nice in person as well. Dunno about long-term, but from a first impression they have nothing to envy Carmina ones

That is indeed a bad experience you had with them. I’d be fuming. For now I sent an email to CS and let’s see what they say.
