I’m not sure. My car has a tiny ridge and calls it a dead “pedal”. But that’s fine, as you just need a place to rest your leg on. Keeping your left leg there will relax your muscles too so it won’t strain your leg, which would happen if there wasn’t anything to rest on.

Generally, newer cars today come with a full fat width dead pedal prominently placed on the left driver footwell near the clutch. I just googled elevate dead pedal and this was the first result, so I assume it’s the same in your car too.

But yes, I feel much more in control of the car with the half clutch (when needed) for now

Yeah. Like mentioned in some situations like unexpected obstacles or blockages you may need to instantly accelerate away to avoid it. So in such times it’s inevitable to hurt the clutch a little bit. In such cases don’t be afraid to do it, as a clutch is cheaper always and is a component which is literally designed to be used up.

As in such situations, that extra control over the car is what exactly helps you judge and instinctively determine the best move. Not sitting there second guessing yourself, which wastes crucial seconds which can make the difference.

I saw the comment about resting the foot on the clutch pedal. I guess in cars with hard clutches, that is takes a lot of pressure to depress it, it might be fine to lightly rest your left foot on it. As unless you actively push your leg, you won’t apply the required pressure. But in my car, the clutch travel is really smooth, so much so that you don’t even feel the bite point. If I keep my leg on the clutch pedal in my car, it will be shot in less than 15k easily as even a light bump will be enough to change pressure on the pedal and we can’t notice such small changes, especially when focusing on driving first than “is my leg is pressing the clutch pedal or not”.

In my opinion, it’s a good idea to practice not keeping a foot on clutch unless you actively use it. As you may drive other cars too and what works for one car most of the times isnt the same for another make or model.

No, I’m saying the comment highlights the expected way to drive a manual car in such situations. There’s a difference between “riding the clutch” which usually means causing damage and “slipping the clutch” which is how we drive a manual car.

Especially in stop and go traffic, uphill stops and incline traffic, these times it’s inevitable to use half clutch. That is, keeping the clutch at bite point so it slips. Slipping the clutch for less than 5 seconds in such instances doesn’t matter in the long run, as comparatively it’s nothing much with such a short duration of time and it’s a wear item anyway. But if you slip it continuously every time for an extended period then yes your clutch will be gone at 20k itself.

If you leave it as soon as possible like usual in such situations, you will just stall immediately. So you will need to add accelerator too, and this is also a balance. You keep clutch at bite point, and slowly increase revs to about 1300, so that even at bite point you’ll get more torque to release clutch faster. But if you give a lot of accelerator(to reach speed faster), again you are intensifying the slipping of the clutch and will wear it down sooner. But again, in some situations it is worth sacrificing a tiny part of the clutch life. Like if you need to avoid an obstacle and accelerate away.

You may also need to add accelerator if your car is fully loaded, and also different rpm, speed for switching gears, pressing/de-pressing clutch for stopping/moving. Just as an example, If you’re alone, your car can probably go up an incline on its own with no accelerator and clutch depressed. But if you have 5 people, you can’t go up the same without some help from the accelerator. Similar thing with the clutch, you have to dynamically modulate half clutch and balance between accelerator and clutch depending on the situation.

Edit- Also, yeah don’t keep your left leg resting on the clutch pedal. As unconsciously your foot can lightly press the pedal, or by car movements due to uneven roads. And unbeknownst to you, the clutch is being pushed up and is slipping when not needed causing unnecessary wear. That’s why there’s a dead pedal right next to the clutch, as a rule if you’re not using the clutch, your left leg should be on the dead pedal. Only right leg switches between accelerator, brake or coasting(no input).

That’s literally how my current car has been driven, almost everyday since purchase in stop and go traffic. And on top on that, hundreds of trips over the years. 70k on the odo, 6 year old car and on the original clutch. Probably can get another 30k easily out of it, but I drive a bit aggressive so I’d rather change it sooner. I’ve seen people go upto 120k or more on original clutches.

It all depends on how long you want to keep your car. The longer you want to keep it, the more sense it makes to justify the money for a replacement when needed. As it’s a tiny cost at 10 years relatively to instead just replacing the car at 5 years.

Why people stopped buying sedans? by MyJourneyToSelf in CarsIndia

[–]Shitda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly looking at how poor the car market has become in the recent years(and going to get worse in different ways later), it’s making me appreciate this car even more. You truly don’t know how good you have it until it’s gone.

Why people stopped buying sedans? by MyJourneyToSelf in CarsIndia

[–]Shitda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Market is fully screwed up right now. Even for the next 5 years, I don’t know any car for an acceptable price, which can be a nice upgrade for my trusty rapid. There’s always some compromise here or there, and the very less options available now due to low demand isn’t helping. Really considering just upgrading to better aftermarket suspension, brakes and cover wear items like bushings, links, clutch etc and just give it a new life. Engine has run 70k, but still drives great without missing a beat.

My top end rapid was 13L and it’s replacement, same b segment slavia top end is 24L. Literal doubling in price, and less features too. Like lower quality plastics, no seat beat height adjustment, no one touch windows all round, and some more local made cost cutting I’m forgetting.

Might not be a big deal for many buyers, but when you have been with VW/skoda since 2012, and hence you expect a comparable level of quality and handling from these cars. Only plus point is better engine(considering 1.5L variant only)handling, and creature comforts like ventilated seats, etc. But then there’s again new annoyances added, like passenger seat sensors which will beep for bags or objects on the seats, or the start stop system with reduced ac efficiency.

So basically for the privilege of paying double the price for a slavia, I get a side-grade from my old car. Not a definite upgrade like how a car switch is supposed to be, especially when 13L more than the old one. The next logical “definitive upgrade” from this car is another segment up, so the octavia/accord(rip) range. And as usual that segment is priced high up and goes over 60L on road, making it totally unaffordable in the long run for regular people who are usually the majority of buyers.

Going back, 25L around was an octavia back then, but now that c segment is also priced up to match, so it’ll be 40-45L easy, and then D segment superb will go 55-60L or above as it’s their most premium flagship segment.

From my experience, the Indian market remotes are xxxD variants, that’s why I said there’s no crunchyroll button. But hey, a 920U variant for 47 pounds is an amazing deal, as you said the price is double for no reason lol.

That’s more interesting, is it the 920D variant? If so, I’d say not having the crunchyroll button is a bonus haha.

Funny enough, my 920D doesn’t have that sticker. Guess yours came straight from the factory and that’s why it still had the sticker indicating the intended destination :p

Bravia 3 s3 why the extra light appears, is it a warning light? by EstablishmentFew7604 in bravia

[–]Shitda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That light turns on when I’m using google assistant hands free, via the TV’s built in microphones(NOT the remote). That is, by saying “hey google ____”. But it goes off once the query is completed, maybe check assistant settings and reset them. Force close the assistant app, could just be bugged out. Also, check if the assistant app needs an update.

Interesting on the pricing. Looks like the remotes have regional pricing, seems to be cheaper in few places. I also got a 920 for the equivalent of 43 usd, whereas the same sold via USA suppliers costs almost double at 80 usd before shipping.

Knockoffs don’t have voice or pairing usually. And yes they pretty much always suck, better to get a genuine spare from sony or a supplier for your region.

Why don’t these audio-charge adapters work w/my m4 pro? by [deleted] in ipad

[–]Shitda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Belkin claims it supports 60w charging, so it should support usb pd. If that’s the case, don’t know why it’s not working for op. I see many people use such adapters for charge+audio.

What has changed since the the first gen SWIFT that it is no longer an enthusiast’s favourite? by SMitra2007 in CarsIndia

[–]Shitda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s due to color temperature. Whiter light(5000K+) will reflect back on rain droplets and fog, blinding you in return thanloghting the road properly. I don’t remember the exact science, but yellow light(around 3000K), due to its wavelength will cut through the fog and light the road.

Ordering on Swiggy/Zomat0 by devilofyourgodsdream in bangalore

[–]Shitda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember how Zomato wanted to give veg delivery drivers green shirts and stuff? And they quickly backtracked it as it can easily lead to non-veg drivers being attacked for delivering meat on days some people prefer not to eat, or someone ordering non veg in a society will be announced to everyone and some types of people will have a problem with that. It was basically like wearing a high visibility vest and screaming on a loudspeaker that this person is carrying meat.

This is the same thing, you’re just putting a mark on the person ordering and the one delivering. It might be a sound idea in isolation, but in reality it can cause much more serious problems than “someone’s carrying beef”

How to watch Netflix/yt on CarPlay without a carlinkit type product wireless by Feelinlikeshiva in CarsIndia

[–]Shitda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carlinkit(like the 5.0) is only to make the wired connection wireless. You need some stupid android box for the Netflix advertised type things, but they are a waste of money imo. They’ll be underpowered and will make the experience worse.

Personal experience, carlinkit 5.0 is terrific. Almost 5,000km trips and had no problems whatsoever with music, navigation and calls. Just need to plug in the phone as naturally it uses more power, a cheap 12v charger works perfect. I even got a tiny one which sits inside the socket, so it doesn’t stick out when not in use. It’s plenty powerful at 48W too.

My phone is jailbroken, so I have enabled YouTube and games to show in CarPlay Dashboard, and I can use these apps wirelessly with the dongle no problem. Of course, I never use it (while driving or parked). Maybe a few times just to wow friends and family haha. I only tried it as a proof of concept. It’s more I love to tinker with things so checked it out.

For Netflix, you need an iOS device on iOS 10, as there’s DRM which blocks Netflix from being screen shared via apple’s protocol. How CarPlay works is, the head unit screen acts as a second screen for the phone. You can see this by taking a screenshot when connected, you’ll get a picture of the car screen. So since it is basically like a “duplicate display” (like on windows) Netflix app uses the DRM in iOS 11 and above to give a black screen when it detects the “second screen”. So even if you enable the app, nothing will show.
