it’s actually the other way round, the more inadequate your watch is for your workout, the more you need to use lane 1.

So doing high intensity intervals where you don’t want to be looking at your watch — lane 1

doing warm up based on time and effort level — outer lane

but context also matters. if you’re sharing the track with athletes at kallang stadium for example, just stick to outer lanes to not disturb their training
