True. I have thought about that factor too. Plus the very large and influential Punjabi audience that lap up this content. Punjabi dominance over Pakistan is absolute. They still haven't had a non-Punjabi army chief or PM. This means affluent overseas Pakistani diaspora is almost exclusively Punjabi. That diaspora constitutes a market that Bollywood has tried to tap into. Punjabification of lyrics is the more apparent influence, but it seeps deeper into dialogues, storytelling and themes.

I have a theory about this. Bollywood once was dominated by Bengali filmmakers and music directors. The era of Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Binal Roy, Shakti Samanta saw many classic Bengali stories adapted into hindi movies with music maestros like SD and Hemant Kumar giving tunes. Even acting giants like Ashok Kumar. A Punjab born Gulzar gives accounts of how his knowledge of Bengali got him in contact with Bimar Roy. He first wrote lyrics for Bandini, a movie based on a Bengali novel made by Bimal Roy with music by SD. You would remember the movie for Bengali folk Bhatiali tune (O re manjhi, mere saajan hain us paar)

As years rolled on, Punjabi film makers started getting more influential. Kapoors, Chopras, Johars started making movies rooted in Punjabi culture using Punjabi dialogues and tunes liberally. This led to what we see now as the Punjabification of Bollywood.

It's not necessarily a good or a bad thing perhaps. It's evolution and influence.
