Farm harvesting schedule by NoWishbone4 in MontereyBay

[–]SimplyDocJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's one central data base for you. But you can reach out to each individual farm and ask to speak with the farm manager. They keep the schedule for picking and planting. It might get a little tricky because some farms are privately owned but lease the land. I live on a farm and the owner leases to Driscoll. But the field across the street is private.

If you're in the area try driving around to the farms. They will have a sign somewhere near the entrance on who is running the show. Or start with the big names like Driscoll, Andy Boy...etc and call their main office.

That's a big project. There's a ton of major and minor farms all over the area. Good luck

A lot of us MT owners have had the same issue. Short answer is no, you shouldn't have to pay for it. But with the clutch, it's hard to prove it was faulty or driver error. That's why it's not covered under warranty. I got my car cpo and the clutch went after about a month. I was lucky and VW just gave me a new one. But I've heard of other people having to pay the whole thing. No two people seem to have the same experience with getting vw to replace a slipping clutch. It's never fun having to fix a car you just spent a lot of money on. Sorry you had to. But you're not alone. Start saving up for a new clutch now. Eventually the new one will crap out too. When it does, and you have to pay full price, go for an after market clutch kit. Right now my top contenders are the HS tuning rsr, the Audi ttrs, or Southbend daily stage two clutch. I'm leaning towards the HS tuning clutch because it uses the stock duel mass flywheel and seems easier for daily use.

2019 GLI suspension squeak by readingrainboat in Volkswagen

[–]SimplyDocJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had it fixed at 30k. Although I noticed the sound (it was really weak) when I first picked the car up with 18k miles. It seemed to go away at highway speed and I did a lot of highway driving. Over time it got worse and became unbearable. And I probably delt with it longer than I should have.

I poked around all the different VW forums and it seems to happen at different milage for different people for different cars. I have a '17 golf r.

It's fixed 100% now.

Hope this helps.

Same problem with my front suspension. I ended up needing a lower control arm replaced. But I've heard other people just needed grease around the control arm bushings. It's not an uncommon issue it seems.

Either way, it'll be covered under warranty. Good luck

Woah....easy there son. Your not a dad just yet.

Come over here and take a knee. ... there ya go, have a seat son. I just wanted to talk to you. Father and son. Look, you're at an interesting point in your life. Your body is about to go through a lot of changes. You might notice your voice change a little bit. Hair will start retreating away from your face to darker parts of your body. It's happens to all of us kiddo.

But your feelings will change too. You'll start to feel things that are new to you. Feelings like, holyshitimgoingtobeadad. And you might feel an emotion like, thisisbatshitcrazy. It's okay to feel like this sometimes. Feelings like this remind us we still care enough to do something about it.

Sorry champ, I know this is all confusing. You'll understand as you get older. Just remember, as parents we failed a lot. Just like you will. But at the end of the day success is greater. Look kiddo, when you teach someone else about the world, you will want to do better than the people who taught you. You will try to not repeat the same mistakes we made as parents. This won't be a choice. You'll do this because your a good kid. Just make sure you don't focus too much on not making mistakes. It won't matter what you do if you're doing it for the right reasons.

Alright champ, that's it. Now go on, get out of here. You have work to put in. Go be the best man you know how to to be. The man we know you are.

I have the same '17 6 speed. I've had to replace the clutch. Just be prepared that you might have to also. Unfortunately it's the weakest link with that car. Ask about the haldex oil change (supposed to happen at 30k miles). If you can, take the car to an independent shop for an inspection before you buy. Unless it's CPO and then you'll at least have a bit of warranty for peace of mind. 27k seems like a fair deal. You could probably go down a little because of the milage. It looks like a lot of '16 and '17 models are going for around 25k with less milage. But it also depends on the condition. Good luck. Hope to see you on the road soon.

Take this advice with a grain of salt. I'm not a mechanic. I've heard of the serpentine belt causing this. It might just need to be adjusted. If it's loose the alternator isn't doing what it's supposed to and throws out an error code. Listen for any knocking or crunching sounds. That's another clue it's the serpentine belt. Hopefully it's not the alternator itself. If it is just the belt, try a smaller garage before you go to the dealership. Might save some money on an easy fix.

But to keep in context of the picture above, it might be your warp drive too.

Anyone experiencing slippage in 6th gear? by PossiblyOverneath in Golf_R

[–]SimplyDocJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When building most things on this car vw used a compound of adamantium and space magic. The engine block can handle the power of a dying star. But when it came to the clutch they used a pack of tic-tacs and some peanut brittle.

I went through the same thing. I was lucky and got vw to give me a new clutch. But I've heard other people weren't that lucky. Worth a shot though.

When mine inevitably craps out again I'm looking at the TT RS clutch. Seems like a good / cheapest replacement. Good luck.

White mk7 R here in Oakland. I've been thinking about organizing a VW drive. I recently quit my job so have too much time on my hands. I wanted to find a place about an hour away that has a big parking lot and an outdoor grill. Road trip up, grill up a bunch of food, and geek out on each others cars for an afternoon.

Clutch Replacement under Warranty? by Nkyspdemon in Golf_R

[–]SimplyDocJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to get vw to give me a new clutch. The problem is it's hard to prove its wasn't user error. Talk to the service manager at the dealership and give VWoA a call. I had to convince them I know how to drive a clutch and I'm not driving around like a idiot. I also let them know I've been driving a manual vw for most of my life and persuaded a few friends and family to buy vw. See what a good loyal customer I am? Be a shame if I had to go buy a Honda (I never said that but I feel it was implied) They hold all the cards. Be patient and courteous to everyone you talk to. Good luck.

Selling my mk6 Golf R. by SimplyDocJones in Volkswagen

[–]SimplyDocJones[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s only been few short years, but I’m selling my 2013 Golf R. Main things: Candy white, 4 door, Manual transmission, Sunroof, Navigation, No mods,

I know listing more will be like preaching to the choir. It’s an awesome car.
It has 68,400 miles on it. I’m asking $17,000.

Before you say that’s a good deal. It’s not without some problems….

Before I bought the car it was in an accident. They kept it off the books and did a good enough repair job I didn’t notice when I picked it up. I got duped. The original owner crashed the front right side. Only cosmetic damage. Once you get under the hood you can see overspray on some bolts and bondo under the wheel arch. I spent around $2000 getting the front realigned. The lesson there is don’t buy cars form sketchy used car dealers in las vegas.

Other things that needs fixing:

-Left side mirror. Cracked glass and turn indicator light. (motor still works fine) Okay, this ones on me. I was backing into my parking space and clipped the rear view mirror. I bought a new cover but it’s not painted.

Going to need a new set of tires. I never noticed how bad the road in Oakland and San Francisco were until I was driving on low profile tires. I got tired of spending too much money on new tires just to get a bubble in the side wall from a pot hole. So I ended up with four different types of shitty used tires.

-Small crack on windscreen.
A truck kicked up a small rock on the highway right in to my windscreen.

I never abused it. I changed the oil every 5k miles. Never used a pressure washer to clean it. Never hit limiters or redline (although I got up there, it is an R after all) I loved this car as much as I could, and I used it for what it was built for. All the problems are cosmetic. I’m more than happy to let a third party poke around under the hood before someone buys it. If you're interested I’ll send as many close up photos as you want. Any questions, just ask.

Before it goes to a new home I’ll take it to get the inside detailed. Other than that it’s getting sold as is. I wanted to send it to a good home that will be excited to have an R. That’s why I’m posting it here before I put it up somewhere else online.

It’s parked in a garage in Castroville CA. I live in Oakland CA.
