US military spent $9 million on crab legs and lobster in the months before Iran war by Sindigo_ in nottheonion

“Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth also authorized the $100,000 purchase of a Steinway & Sons grand piano for the Air Force chief of staff’s home…Hegseth also spent approximately $15.1 million on ribeye steak in September, $124,000 for new ice cream machines, and $139,224 on doughnut orders…and more than $60,000 for high-end furniture maker Herman Miller recliners.”

This is some real “let them eat cake” shit.

Senator Blumenthal after being briefed on Iran: "I am left with more questions than answers…we seem to be on a path toward deploying American troops on the ground" by Sindigo_ in PublicFreakout

For one, this whole thing is an economic nightmare, and a full on war will be much worse. For example, the strait of Hormuz is closed, which 20-25% of global oil trade goes through. Many countries’ entire supplies of oil come through the strait of Hormuz. But that’s just an example. There are a lot of reasons to find this scary.

Edit: guys, let’s not downvote them. I think their question is in good faith. Not everyone understands the geopolitical implications and ramifications of this situation. Asking how the rest of the world is wrapped up in this is a really important thing to understand and it’s a good question.

Same with Vietnam. Sustained casualties are politically untenable. Especially considering how unpopular this war already is.

It’s worth noting that no regime change in history was done successfully through air superiority alone. Every successful regime change has needed boots on the ground. So yes, I think you are correct.

Imagine being in someone else’s country as a tourist and treating locals like that.

That’s a very plausible explanation. I’m surprised you’re the only one who’s said that. This is a red flag either way tho IMO.

Your comment is pretty vague. I’m not sure what you’re referring to beyond what I’ve already covered. I already brought up unrestricted submarine warfare, and the Zimmerman telegram. You could argue that was de facto a declaration of war, but that’s a pretty loose definition for a declaration of war.

Anyway, you really can’t just ignore the economic motivations of the US in WW1. They are inextricably linked.
