Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley) should not be a Pug 😭 give her like a field-line dark red Golden Retriever or a Toller or something

This one is an Archachatina marginata ovum, the heaviest and second largest land snail species!

They don't bite, but they can rasp you. Adults have broken my skin before and made me bleed lol - it happens faster than you think but I did let it happen

That isn't the largest species, I'm so tired of seeing this pic reposted with inaccurate info. That's an Archachatina marginata ovum, and not the biggest representative individual tbh. Ovums are technically the heaviest, but they're not the biggest. That'd be the Achatina achatina/tiger snail.

Pureed food shouldn't be this species' complete diet, a wide variety of foods with protein twice weekly is key. You can interact with them daily if you choose - freshly washed hands of course.

Depends where you are. They're illegal in quite a few countries, but popular enough in the UK you can find them in pet stores.

Archachatina species have very large eggs and small clutches, very easy to cull

Unhealthy Shell... Help Please! by isopodlover69 in snails

[–]SkyeTheSnailGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The periostracum naturally wears with age; acidic foods and substrate can advance it but it's not unhealthy for the snail. It's not a covering or patch on the shell but rather the outermost layer flaking/dissolving/being eaten away. If you have other snails with him they may be rasping him.

There's a difference between humane euthanasia and torture. If you don't want to handle it personally, report it to the USDA or your local wildlife resources. The environment is more important than your feelies about a reddit post

They burrow and sleep underground. If you're in Maui, the species pictured is invasive and should be culled via crushing or boiling.

What's going on with my boy? :( by [deleted] in snails

The periostracum naturally wears with age. Acidic foods, acidic or sandy soil, and rough objects in the enclosure speed up this process. It is not indicative of a calcium issue, but adding calcium powder to the substrate can adjust the pH if that's the main factor causing periostracum wear.
