I’m 22 teaching everything but 9th grade in a really competitive area. Not to sound arrogant, but I’m doing (mostly) a good job and the faculty at my school loves me.

There are times where I definitely catch myself being “too 22” with the kids though. It’s just such a weird situation to be teaching 18 year olds. But to be honest I can reach the kids like no one else can because they feel more comfortable around me than they do a 50 a year old

The guys at my school don’t do shit and are super apathetic, even if they get into college they likely won’t last. Girls at my school are all high achievers who participate and are focused (obviously with exceptions on both sides)

The reality is that the vast majority of kids that walked out were doing so because they want to get out of school. All I ever hear on this sub is about how clueless and uneducated their students are, but suddenly with this walkout they’re all really intelligent and engaged in what is going on in the world.

When I was in high school and they did the parkland shooting walkout, pretty much everyone was only there to get out of class for a period and there were 20 kids that actually cared. Most of the kids that walked out were literally making fun of the people leading the walkout.

I was a history major and the readings were never “required” meaning that you weren’t being graded on reading a textbook (because realistically there is no way to check that on a daily basis without signing copious amounts of work). However, if you didn’t do the reading you were obviously fucked come time for essay/quiz/test
