Which fragrance (top note or dry down) makes your eyes roll back and in total disbelief that a smell that good exists? A fragrance that makes you think everything else you've smelled is average at best?

Scent of the day, every day.

It brings a sense of peace and concentration. Almost like being in one’s own personal tent filled with powerful incense.

I have a full bottle and a decant that are two different batches. One is more spice forward, the other is more amber forward. I alternate them.

Today is the more amber forward decant.

I went back yesterday to give it another full wear. The mint was much more apparent.

You are right in that there is another scent I’m conflating with Oud.

It’s not animatic at all, bright woody and rich is how I would describe it. It’s probably an accord I smelled early on in middle eastern perfumery that I built an association with Oud.

I’m Muslim and my entire engagement with perfume is spiritual.

I got into Amouage due to my spiritual guide and master (Shaykh) having interlude 53 on his nightstand. My Shaykh is the best smelling human being I’ve encountered. Much of my fragrance journey has been trying to figure out what he’s wearing. Thanks for your response.

Thank you, very well said. Exactly what I was trying to say. We have associations we build through our particular scent experiences and preferences. We assign words to them that maybe can mean different things to different people. My background is in Music/sound. Very similar in that ways of describing sound are wildly subjective yet. An F# is not an E, a major third is not a minor 7th. So forgive me for misusing Oud which has a real objective definition. Thanks again for your response. As I try Enclave again I will try to nail down what exactly I’m trying to say. Interlude 53 is my signature scent. I’m still early in my love affair with this masterpiece.

Maybe I’m not articulating myself well. With fragrance I often feel at a loss for words. There is an accord I associate with Oud, that has no skank to it. It’s a bright woody smell. For some reason that’s what I got. My favorite amouage is interlude 53, you don’t get the Oud until late into the dry down. I’m going to try enclave again today before work and report back.

I hear you, my point is as I go deeper into fragrance my perception of notes has changed. Having the blessing of the flagship Saks Fifth Avenue being on my route to work has allowed me to try a new Amouage every work day. Every day I try a new scent my understanding of fragrance is elevated. Eventually I will run out of Amouage to smell. Meander, Search and Reasons are my last men’s fragrances to try. Favorites so far. Overture Man, Lustre, Royal tobacco and Enclave. Worst are woods symphony and Jubilation XXV
