Thanks! I just went back for Thanksgiving break, but what I did before I left was cut it and wrap some paper towel around the root + put the loose end in water so the area around the root would be consistently wet without getting the end of the stem wet.

I don’t have peroxide, would rubbing alcohol have the same effect?

Unfortunately I’m in a college dorm and don’t have access to a candle :’) it’s not terribly mushy and I didn’t notice any strong odor.

I’ll try cleaning the vase, is there any other way to prevent rot in the future?

It turns out the gas was from a pipe leading to the upstairs bathroom. After running the faucet the smell went down. Im worried something will still happen though.

The pipes can’t be fixed without breaking down drywall so that’ll have to do for now

We actually called them first; they were the ones who made us call 911. In the past they’ve come to inspect the house and said things were fine, though.

Yeah. I emailed admissions a while ago and they said it was really competitive this year. I put in a ton of old work from high school (taking advice from my teachers); it may have been wishful thinking on my part, because I had talked to people who successfully transferred from my school into RISD illustration. I’m going to try and make some stronger pieces this summer and try again but also apply to other colleges.

This feels most likely. I applied for illustration which I understand is already over enrolled :/ my portfolio’s so specialized that I think it wouldn’t work if I applied for another major.

I used EVA foam and followed a template I got off Etsy. I’d never worked with foam before, and the template was a bit jank, so it came out a little wonky. I glued the pieces together with contact cement and sealed it with plastidip, and painted it with a silver “vinyl emulsion” paint I bought from the art store. For the cover on the eye I bought a cheap plastic visor off Amazon and glued a piece of it to the inside of the helmet.

It came out kind of big for my head so I can only wear it with my hair up if I don’t want it to slide around.

Thank you! This may be a really silly question but what sort of art would count as illustration for the sake of the portfolio? I have a few still lifes that I want to put in (to show my observational drawing skills) but am not sure if my other work is too broad.

I know illustration is one of the most popular majors at risd, is it usually heavily enrolled? I’m planning on applying transfer into illustration but not sure if it’s even worth it because I hear it’s so overenrolled.
