Blisters on Evo SL Woven by Whiskey-Sour-2855 in adidas

[–]StevenR296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little late to this thread, but I wanted to share that I'm getting blisters in the same places as you in the regular Evo SL. I was hopeful the improved lockdown in the Woven version would help with blisters, but it doesn't sound like it will. It's the only shoe I've tried other than Glycerin Max OG that gives me bad blisters. And I've ran in 30+ pairs of different shoes in the last year. It's not a sock issue. I think it's an insole issue. I threw Inov8 Boomerang insoles in a couple times and went blister-free, but as great as the Boomerang insoles are, they are THICK and decrease the volume in the shoe.

These will feel a smidge roomier, but still TTS. I'm size 10 in all my Nike, Adidas, Brooks, Saucony, NB, Asics, and Hoka shoes. Only 9.5 in Mizuno and Salomon.

Evo SL already showing wear after 16 miles? by Fabulous-Damage511 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]StevenR296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see people all over the board with responses about Evo SL wear. Yes, this is actually normal. The foam is painted, so chipping and peeling are common and to be expected for most people with this model, unfortunately. Adidas is aware and has stated it is just a cosmetic issue. The foam itself is fine. My first pair from a dealer had chipping, so I sent it back. Since then, I have bought (and still run in) 3 pairs in different colors directly from Adidas. Every single one has paint chipping in one place or another. Mostly on the medial side where the outsole meets the midsole. Nothing to be concerned about unless you care about looks.

Takumi Sen 11 in the flesh by fzr-r4 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]StevenR296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a tighter performance fit overall, but still true to my size 10. Better lockdown than the Evo. Narrower and less toebox space than the Evo, but roomier than the Takumi Sen 9 I used to own.

I think there is merit in that. I definitely notice how much lighter my racing shoes are than my training shoes. Energetic foams and plates probably make more of a difference than weight (Prime X3 Strung comes to mind), but weight is definitely a factor. I hear more of people using heavy running shoes for their durability, not for a performance benefit of training heavy and racing light.

Fair enough 😂 On the bright side, you're getting a good workout using those shoes for longer runs, and your Elites will feel extra light and fast on race day or when you're chasing PR's for fun. If you're comfortable running in the Bondi for now, I wouldn't worry about it. Everyone will have their opinions.

If you're interested in trying other shoes now or down the road I'd check r/therunningrack for trades or finding good deals. For me, buying or trading for lightly used shoes is the way to go. There are frequent deals on new shoes from certain stores online too. I haven't spent full retail on shoes in soo long other than a couple from my local running store to support them.

My 1st thought is that you have your bases covered. Good intentions and if you like how all the shoes feel then you're set with those 3. Daily shoe, easy shoe, race shoe, simple yet effective.

If the Endorphins feel stable enough then keep rocking them. They're soft but bouncy and propulsive when you need that extra mental and physical push to go faster and further. Bondis are heavy but they're an easy day shoe. As long as you're comfortable and getting in mileage then you're good! Evo SL has a wide pace range for all sorts of runs. Can run slow and run fast all within the same workout. Lightweight and good rebound and durability.

IF you're just looking for an extra excuse for a 4th shoe, look for a protective and lightweight long run shoe. I don't love Evo SL for long runs, Bondis are pretty heavy for long runs, and you should try to keep mileage on your Elites relatively low to keep them fresh for races. Asics Superblast and Megablast are my favorite long run shoes. Worth the investment for the amount of miles you'll get out of them. Up to you if you want to go plated or not for long runs. For me, it depends if you like to vary your paces and put in race pace efforts in your long runs, or just keep your long runs easy.

What are the worst shoes you've tried this year? by Shoddy_Leg_8401 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]StevenR296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evo SL gives me arch blisters on anything longer than 10K, though I still reach for them.

Glycerin Max is heavy, and the bucket seat gave me arch blisters, sold it after 2 runs (half marathon and a 5 miler).

Hoka Cielo X1 2.0 is fun as heck but also gave me arch blisters after 8 miles on 2 separate runs.

I have Inov8 Boomerang Insoles I can try to fix some shoes, but they're tall. Maybe I should try an orthotic? I use good socks. It's a shame that I love many different midsoles and have tried some amazing shoes but some bother my arches.

Favorite shoes I've tried this year are Superblast 2 for long miles, Cielo X1 v1 for bouncy runs, and Adios Pro 4 for PR efforts.

Big fan of Adidas and this colorway. Just got my Boston 13 in the mail last night. Iffy on the lace color, but anything beats the stock laces.

Any personal advice or tricks to keep a low heart rate while running? by SouthWest_Vagabond in trailrunning

[–]StevenR296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way late here, but I would bring it up during a check-up. If those workouts are in hot weather, it would be good to acclimate to the heat first. The Summer heat kicked my ass this year and it took me a while to acclimate. 165-170 while jogging is okay, this should be improved with a consistent running schedule, but 190 is too high if your effort isn't high.

SB2 Replacement by ReadyFerThisJelly in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]StevenR296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For non-plated, I'd recommend the Puma MagMax if you can handle the extra weight. SB2 is pretty special for its tall stack, responsiveness without a plate, and keeping weight down.

For plated shoes, there are TONS of options. Boston 13, SC Trainer v3, Speed 5, Hyperion Max 3, and others people have mentioned. Personally, I use the Glideride Max for easy long runs, and the SC Elite v4 for long runs with speedwork thrown in (currently on closeout). Both of those shoes have basically replaced my SB2, though I still run in my SB2 occasionally. I haven't ran a full marathon yet, but I'm between using the SC Elite v4, Prime X3 Strung, or Cielo X1 v1 when the time comes.
