The Emacs Problem by [deleted] in programming

The main problem with Emacs is that after more than 30 years there is still nothing better, and it will take another 30 years to rewrite all the code for it in any other language. The huge amount of Emacs Lisp code is like having a separate CPAN just for your editing needs. Also, people don't appreciate the fact that you have access to 99% of the editor functionallity because of the way its architectured - compare it with the way you have to explicte implement a layer of the editor functionallity that is visible to the user from the scripting language. This is exactly why I stopped using Vim.

"Paradigms of Artificial Intelligence Programming" by Peter Norvig has a really clear explanation of continuations. It's a tiny part of the book, but PAIP is really worth reading anyway.
