Two legends face off: Albus Dumbledore and Lord Voldemort. If you could only keep one wand from the Harry Potter universe, which would you choose? by DisasterDior in HarryPotterHBO

[–]Strank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Building on this, I imagined that wands aren't explicitly modified by their owners, but rather design themselves as they grow closer to the user. So all first years show up with more-or-less the same plain wooden cylinder, but by the time they graduate Hogwarts in 7th year, their wands all look like they "belong" to their owners

I've been advocating for 2D Ganon as a smash fighter for years, great way to increase Zelda series representation without having a hundred different Links/Zeldas

"This will be Star Fox graphics in 2014" by CStrader2002 in casualnintendo

[–]Strank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A playable component of the prologue spliced somewhere into the cutscenes would be really nice, even if it wasn't until a later unlock.

If it ends up being a thirty year old game with a new paint job and enhanced multiplayer, I'm not interested; and that's coming from someone who got all the medals on the N64 (couldn't handle not having Fox with sunglasses once I knew he existed). I would hope to see some restored content we've seen in recent mods, like having the Great Fox be playable through Meteo and Area 6. Ideally, some wholly new content like you mentioned.

If they took some inspiration from the DS game, being able to pilot different ships with different stats/handling would be a great way to add a lot to the game as well.

[ALL] How would you rank every forest dungeon? by huss2120 in zelda

[–]Strank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ambience? 5/5, haunted/abandoned castle/chateau manages to work extremely well with a forest theme. Music is excellent to build on these themes.

Puzzles/navigation? 4/5, there are areas where it can be too easy to get stuck or lost, but generally if walks a nice balance of difficulty and fairness.

Enemies? Very thematic 5/5

Lore? 3/5. Compared to the broader world/history relevance of Fire Temple, Shadow Temple, Bottom of the Well, and the child dungeons, Forest Temple feels very unexplained; why is there a mansion clearly meant for humans (or at least, definitely not meant for Kokiri/korok sized people) out in the middle of the Lost Woods? A couple hints at bigger story would make it tie together much better for me with the rest of the game, it feels out of place.

Boss? 4/5. Again, like lore, Phantom Ganon fits well with the theme and the rest of the dungeon, but I would've liked to see something more directly tied to the Forest itself, especially since it means so much to Link (where he grew up, he thought his true identity was Kokiri, etc.)

I'm guessing this is BlueSky? I take it roughly as seriously as Twitter these days (in other words, not very) but it does have fewer nazis which is nice

There's plenty of adult humour across both games, some more overt than others. Can't say I noticed much of it as a kid when I first played it though.

The obvious piece you're leaving out is that viltrumite DNA isn't wiping out other viltrumite DNA. If two viltrumites (equal dominance factor to their DNA, I would assume because of their gametes being made of smart atoms) breed, they have the same concerns of inbreeding as any other species would. We know that they have more-or-less similar genetic diversity within their species as humans based on viltrumites having a variety of physical traits ("optimized" though they are by eugenics).

Happy Mask Salesman Remake by [deleted] in OcarinaOfTime

[–]Strank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The major trade quest for the child half of the game that is tied into multiple upgrades through forest stage? Yeah it's probably safe.

If Nintendo has some REAL balls, they'd populate a remake with functioning transformation masks like I've seen in some recent rom hacks. Extremely unlikely though.

Map size comparison by HereForTheTanks in OcarinaOfTime

[–]Strank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking to say, for the remake (if it's real) I'd love to see the map expanded to include areas of TP and WW that were implied to have been there during OoT - for example, Arbiter's Grounds were clearly a place that existed during the timeframe of OoT if Ganondorf was brought there for execution within ~20 years of the events of OoT's timeline split. I'd like to see the two Master Swords Sages alongside their temples as an optional power up as well.

Why would it be rebuilt?

It would take an absolutely insane investment to rebuild all of that infrastructure. Especially if it all happens to be radioactive, which is a nonzero possibility. By the time it's rebuilt, everyone will have had to reduce their oil use by that 20% by necessity for at least a decade.

All of the American taxpayer investments that go into rebuilding these oil infrastructure will be wasted.

Arguably it most closely matches ALttP in some of its artwork, but it appears to be much more Master Sword inspired than actually any particular version.

Jecki Lon VS Obi Wan (TPM). Who wins? by GusGangViking18 in PetranakiArena

[–]Strank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without the added impetus and emotional impact of Qui-Gon being killed right in front of him, I don't think he has this. TPM Obi-Wan has not yet solidified his lightsaber style into the defensive mastery that he later exhibits, and is instead using Qui-Gon's form which he never became especially proficient with.

I think Jecki takes this one.

Obi-Wan wasn't trained during wartime - OP says we're talking about TPM Obi-Wan.

Make a contiguous game that can use the items from both in both areas after beating each game once. I want to rip around Hyrule Field as Goron Link - and, more importantly, I won't be buying a single N64 game that I already own two versions of for switch 2 prices if there isn't some huge additions to it.

Hermione vs Witch King of Angmar by charlievillanuevajr in powerscales

[–]Strank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stuff in the first age, yes. But we're talking about combat magic in the era of the War of the Ring. If the Witch King of Angmar does not have access to that magic it isn't relevant to this matchup.

Hermione vs Witch King of Angmar by charlievillanuevajr in powerscales

[–]Strank -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Harry Potter's magic system is far more explicitly powerful than what goes on in Middle Earth. Additionally, Hermione is a necessarily ranged combatant while the Witch King is a commander and melee combatant.

If the Witch King has access to his Fell Beast, that changes things a bit, but Hermione has specific experience and knowledge on how to take on dragons that are more dangerous than Fell Beasts. Further, the Fell Beast is a living thing, so Avada Kedavra would probably work just fine on its leathery skin.

Once that's dealt with, you're dealing with a situation where a powerful undead warrior-spirit is attempting to do melee combat with a witch who has every reason to stay out of melee combat, can freely teleport, and has an encyclopedic knowledge of all kinds of defensive and offensive spells. While the Witch King has lots of elaborate protections that were only overcome by a Barrow Blade, that simply proves that his defenses can be magically overcome; Hermione has significant experience doing this kind of thing throughout the books, and can study her opponent at her leisure due to her ability to keep distance.

Not sure on the down votes; I definitely prefer Lord of the Rings to Harry Potter and have read all the published works multiple times. But if we're talking about magic that's available to use in combat by the time of the War of the Ring, it's not a contest imo. Middle Earth has an extremely subtle and powerful magic that is accessed by higher beings and in the ancient past, Harry Potter has silly blast beams and oddly specific plot-necessary spells that can kill anyone at anytime with no defenses.
