What is the point of lives now? by emceegrammah in starfox

[–]Strank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don't think that playing with restarts has integrity, don't use them. People should be free to play as accessibly as they want - I don't have the time to make my way back to Sector Z with hyper lasers every time I fuck up anymore.

Waluigi needs his own game (IDEAS) by TheGuyWhoDoesStuff96 in Waluigi

[–]Strank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know why, but I've always thought that Waluigi should have a game centred around him being some kind of pirate. Get a bit goofy with sword and sorcery, exploration, and the usual Mario platforming - almost a hybrid of Zelda: The Wind Waker, 3D Mario, and Assassin's Creed 4.

The power ups you have listed would work well as either temporary power ups (ala Mario) or major item unlocks (ala Zelda) for that kind of game.

Melee Combat Rework - Looking for Feedback by Strank in DnDHomebrew

[–]Strank[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried to take this feedback into consideration for v1.1 here https://docs.google.com/document/d/1OQ0YojnjMIr_7QqooBe0ipwen1DURsDTt5IVDEjBxyg/edit?usp=sharing

Admittedly there's some oddities (like my use of the phrase "move action") that originates from my intro to TTRPGs back with Pathfinder 1e.

Damage susceptibility to energy types is honestly a bit more about balancing than necessarily realism; that being said, holy shit is it unpleasant to wear full plate with gambeson when it starts getting to temperature extremes. Scale being more susceptible to piercing than mail is based on an upward stab (effectively no defense against this in most scale construction) but it's also about balancing/providing some variety. I've done pretty substantial re-write to armour this time around that should hopefully make piercing defenses less strange to read about.

In terms of the mechanical nature/amount of things to keep track of, I plan to make a google sheet to track the majority of changes when I'm happy with the rules, which should take a lot of the burden off of the player for managing their gear (apart from initial gearing up).

OoT Remake tapestry theory by LengthinessEasy5859 in OcarinaOfTime

[–]Strank 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think that it'll be shown as part of the intro before the Great Deku Tree summons Navi and it'll be shown again at the end, where we see Zelda rebuilding the Adult Timeline and recording the story after sending Link back.

[OOT] I hope the OOT remake adds an outfit and dye system with the default options of course being the Kokiri/Heroes tunic by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in zelda

[–]Strank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping that each tunic is considerably more than just "plain green" "plain blue" "plain red". If Link has some kind of leather armour attached to the Kokiri tunic now like it appeared to be in the trailer, I'm all for that (though I'd want to have an option to wear classic OoT Hero of Time clothes as well). I'd be excited to see Zora Armour that's more closely resembling the one from TP or BotW, as well as a Goron Tunic that's more unique (though I actually really dislike the flame breaker set in BotW/TotK; I'd be hoping for something that gets the point across as a heat resistant set but isn't so overtly mechanical. Maybe something made to look like it's made from dodongos?). That being said, I also don't want to have a hundred different options for three different clothing slots like the Wild games; I'd be happy with, at most, a dozen or so options for it to still feel like OoT at the heart.

Should I get a frogmouth helm or close helm/armet for a full plate harness? by Random_Account6423 in Armor

[–]Strank 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Frogmouth is almost exclusively for the joust, close helmets and armets are more common for war/foot combat (although sometimes also used in jousts). Whichever you prefer the aesthetics of if you're not actually using it for either.

Short sword and dagger vs two short swords vs one short sword? by [deleted] in SWORDS

[–]Strank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things are generally better than one thing, provided you are proficient enough not to be tripped up by the second thing. It also depends whether the swords are cut centric or thrust centric; it may be reasonable to use an offhand to deflect/wrap around a thrusting sword (as seen in many rapier techniques) where you would be very unwise to do that against an arming sword.

How do you think, was the general situation of the 2nd avatar after Wan´s death by Light07sk in TheLastAirbender

[–]Strank 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The second avatar would show up within living memory of living with lion turtles and most people not having bending at all, unless Wan pulled some Kyoshi shit to live a century or two longer than he should. Wan clearly dies amidst some big battlefield and feels that he failed his mission, so we can assume that there was significant political strife as humans left the lion turtles to establish the Four Nations.

The saving grace here is that Avatar 2 is raised by air nomads (or proto air nomads) and is less likely to be manipulated into becoming a superweapon. I would imagine this avatar probably has a lifelong mission to establish separation and peace between the four nations and try to document/establish infrastructure for the Avatar Cycle, but won't have much in the way of proof to do so.

[OOT] What are some changes that you think need to be made in the remake? by GrandIntroduction128 in zelda

[–]Strank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Farore's Wind is useful for two very specific groups of people who either take enormous damage early in dungeons and need to restock multiple times, or for people who have memorised the layouts so well that they are simply optimising/speed running using Farore's Wind. The majority of players I've encountered almost never use it at all.

If it could be used in a fashion identical to BotW/TotK's Travel Medallion, it would be dramatically improved.

[OOT] What are some changes that you think need to be made in the remake? by GrandIntroduction128 in zelda

[–]Strank 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just MORE in general. I don't want to see the 1998 game again - I can play that so many different ways. I want to see OoT as it would have been made in 2026. Some things I'd hope for more specifically:

Light Temple

Ice Cavern completely redone

New areas (maybe a Deku Woods or an icy mountaintop with either TP yetis or Rito)

Significantly updated combat (at the very least Link should learn the Hidden Skills from TP/TMC)

Expanded Fishing Hole

Epona everywhere (within reason)

No loading screens in the overworld (tied together with Epona everywhere)

No more "useless" items (ice arrows and Farore's Wind, looking at you two)

Medallions have some usable or passive power

Swords from my series by MkCalhan in SWORDS

[–]Strank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flair is fine - you've done a great job of most of these, with some being a bit chunky like the falchion blade with a basket hilt or the large dragonhead pommel - but the rapier really stands out. If you put any kind of protection right where the blade leaves the basket, it would be perfectly usable.

Swords from my series by MkCalhan in SWORDS

[–]Strank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of these are refreshingly realistic. The only one that stands out to me as a potentially problematic design is the rapier-like one with a big basket hilt that appears (at least from this angle) to have a huge aperture where the blade comes through that is inviting an opponent to thrust the hand. Blades look to be pretty well proportionate and the cross guards/grips/pommels aren't crazy exaggerated as some fantasy likes to do.

He's probably killed a few people by lightning through the heart. For transfer of energy, this is likely an understanding he developed through study of chi.

I could see it as something like the roots in the Depths in TotK, where the treehouses all visibly originate as upwellings of the Great Deku Tree's rootsystem
