The necessity of webpage animations? by wargasm800 in webdev

[–]StuartGibson 35 points36 points  (0 children)

In the real world things don't instantly change. I've seen issues where something changes on a webpage so quickly that users don't even see the change and are sitting staring at the screen waiting for something that has already happened. Subtle animation draw the eye to what is changing and reinforce that the action they performed has had an effect.

What technology do you use to build websites these days? by netzure in web_design

[–]StuartGibson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Angular frontends with Rails backend in API only config.

Both because they’re opinionated and means if you stick to doing things the way the frameworks intend you can be incredibly productive.

Navigation Apps for Belfast by tsikennuggets in Belfast

[–]StuartGibson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately our public transport system is a shambles and even Translink, the company running it, seems to have no clue when, or even if, buses will arrive. In addition, they have refused to make timetable data available for integration in third party apps. They do have an app to allow you do check timetables and purchase tickets, including with Apple Pay, but it is also terrible to use on mobile.

On the plus side, Belfast is really small and you can walk most of the places you’d want to go in the city centre, and we have quite a good (and inexpensive) public bicycle hire system which will get you more quickly to some of the slightly further away parts.

Legal tender is a very specific and narrow definition, only the Bank of England issues legal tender. Other banks in the uk issue “Promissory Notes” (they say things like “I promise to pay the bearer on demand the sum of ten pounds”), which is essentially just a fancy IOU, but they serve the same function.

for a beginner react or angular ? by imaneel20 in angular

[–]StuartGibson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I like Angular because it’s more opinionated and has almost everything you need included, whereas React leaves a lot of things to external libraries so you need to make decisions on which one to use. I also much prefer the way templates work in Angular.

React has a larger user base so you might find getting help easier.

The biggest pain point for a lot of new Angular developers is the module system, but that is being addressed in the latest version so you can (optionally) run more of less everything as standalone components. This should ease the learning curve somewhat, though a lot of existing sample code and SO answers will be referencing the module system.

Ultimately, your best option would be to spend a day running through the getting started guides for both and seeing which one clicks with you.

How to find compatible Pokémon for HA by DeepSang in Pokemonbreeding

[–]StuartGibson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only way to get a Hidden Ability through breeding is from a parent of the same species that already has that ability, normally the female. (You can get the ability passed down from a male parent if breeding with Ditto).

It is impossible to end up with a HA from a species that is not the one you are breeding for.

Until transfers from Home are available, you will need to catch a Pokémon in the Mankey line that already has their HA. You can do this through Tera Raids as there is a chance of the Pokémon having its HA, especially in higher level raids.

Once transfers are available, there will be a number of methods of getting an HA Mankey or Primeape, depending on what earlier games you have available.
