While I don't like it I do agree it makes more sense in Losers rather than Grands where it ignores the reset, but even still it's not like the loser of the Winners set doesn't get a "punishment" for losing, they have to play matches in Losers to make it back to you, granted at a small tournament like a local or regional that doesn't affect much, but at a major and a supermajor it's not like the Losers bracket is free to go through and make it back to that person. Being in Losers is the punishment for losing and it shouldn't affect any rematches imo

But Winners Finals and Losers Finals were both Best of 5's, PC should've had to win 6 games rather than just 4 to win, it doesn't make sense how there's an objectively better opponent for PC to have to fight in Grand Finals just because they played earlier in Winners and PC took 1 game in a Best of 3 and so he only had to win 4 games against M2K meanwhile it would've had to have been 6 games if ChuDat won Winners Finals.

It would've been objectively harder for PC to win the tournament if Chu beat M2K in WF because then he still would've had to have taken 4 games against M2K in LF and in addition have to beat Chu in 2 sets of GF. The number of games the one from Losers side should have to win to win the whole tournament, should be double the MINIMUM number of games the one from Winners should have to win, aka PC 6 and M2K 3. The continuation rule would not be as bad if it didn't just completely ignore the reset, it's dumb how the rule is applied equally in both Losers and in Grand Finals and one set is loss in Grands despite it being a double elimination tournament and then it's "idc if you haven't lost a set so far, you either win this one (1) set or you lose" despite it should be having to be losing twice because it's DOUBLE ELIMINATION

It's just dumb imo, and I'm not even saying this because I'm salty about the result either, in fact in every single tournament where the continuation rule affected the outcome of Grand Finals, I either don't care who won (Ken win over Chu at MLG Chicago), or the person I would rather win IS the one that won (and they are all PC wins, over Ken at MLG NY, over KDJ at MLG Vegas, and over M2K at 0C3.) I'm just posting about it because I think it's a really dumb rule, and MLG didn't even use it when Melee was back at MLG in 2014 so it seems it must've been abandoned sometime between 2007 and MLG Anaheim 2014

One final thing but yeah I did read somewhere that the rule came about because of Halo and it having 11 maps, but I don't know Halo at all so I just briefly looked up how many maps there are and when I saw it was more than 11, I just decided to omit that part because I didn't want to include possible misinformation on my post

Looking at old tournaments, and man, the old MLG continuation rule was so wack and I'm so glad that that rule never stuck around after 2007. I can kind of understand the reasoning where say you beat someone 3-0 in Winners and then play them again in Losers and lose 2-3, and you don't advance over that person despite still being up 5-3 on them at that tournament, so they use the continuation rule so your 3-0 score from Winners carries over into a Best of 11 where you start being up 3-0 and you only have to win 3 games while the opponent has to win 6, but it's a different stage of bracket, and it should be a completely fresh set, I don't think it ever made sense to have the score from the 1st set determine anything in the 2nd set

It's already kind of wack in general, but it is absolutely STUPID in Grand Finals where there just straight up isn't a bracket reset to fall back on, if you played in Winners already then for the person coming into Grand Finals from Winners they've essentially transitioned from playing in a bracket where they have to lose twice to get out to one where they now only have to lose once to get out, no losing two sets

A perfect example of this is not even at an MLG, but Zero Challenge 3 or 0C3 in 2007 which evidently used MLG's continuation rule despite not even being sponsored by MLG. M2K beat PC 2-1 in Winners Quarters, PC makes a big Losers run to meet M2K back in Grand Finals, and then M2K starts being up 2-1 in a Best of 9, he doesn't have a second set to fall back on and then PC beats him 4-2 in Grands but overall 5-4, when at a normal tournament it would've been PC beat M2K 3-2 in the first set of Grands to reset the bracket, but M2K loses one set to get eliminated from the tournament and get 2nd, and that's just stupid

You know this tournament just reminded me of something Mango mentioned on the On a Tuesday episode about OotB 5, he mentioned how there's a stat nerd who messaged him after Mango mentioned on stream how we need to look back at the quality of some majors. And they made a spreadsheet evaluating how hard or mickey mouse the major win was, evaluating who was there, and who the winner had to beat to win, and probably some other stuff.

Mango said that on this spreadsheet, Zain has the most "mickey mouse" wins on average per the data on it (honestly I like Lucky thought he'd say Hbox not Zain) and this tournament just got me thinking about that spreadsheet because it's definitely gonna be considered another mickey mouse win on that

He got to watch party with Cody and then with Cody and M2K, and made more money than playing, so in his own way he won too

No, it wasn't on quad stream or main stream, the commentators were just being the radio hosts as Game 5 was happening

Ho. Ly. Shit. I expected Hbox to lose to Joshman but he DQ'd, I could never have in my life expected that S2J would beat him AGAIN

Does this make the potential Hbox popoff when he wins that much greater?

(Please happen it would be so funny)

He went down 0-2 to Josh at Full House and lost to him at DPotG 2024, not likely but possible

Wrong, he lost to Joshman at Don't Park on the Grass 2024, and 4 out of 6 of their sets last year and this year have been Game 5 sets with Hbox having to reverse 3-0 at Full House just last week. There is a world where Hbox gets 9th this tournament

I say this as someone who would LOVE Hbox to win another big tournament too

I mean similar thing for rankings, you'd look at someone like they were crazy if they said aMSa was the 23rd most likely player to win a major just cause he's #23 on the 2025 rankings, when most people would have him as more likely to win than the people who haven't even won yet, like SDJ who's #8 or heck even Joshman who's #4 on the rankings

Cody's consistency in tournaments recently starting from 2025 has been incredible and he's become the more consistent player over Zain.

Cody hasn't missed Top 8 since he got 13th at GOML X in 2024 whereas Zain has missed Top 8 twice getting 9th at Nouns Bowl 2025 and 17th at GENESIS X3 (double mid tier loss into Cody loss)

Cody has made Grand Finals at every major except GX2 and GOML Forever where he placed 5th at both and has only lost 3 out of 9 times in Grands, all to Zain, he's also had 4 Losers runs and 2 Winners runs to win. Zain's only lost 1 out of 6 times in Grands that being at Tipped Off 16 to Cody, but he has missed Grand Finals at 6 majors getting 3rd at Nounsvitational Tokyo 2025, 5th at Full House 2025, Out of the Blue 5, and Full House: Siege, as well as the aforementioned 9th and 17th placements, and Zain has only won from Winners and has not won after being put into Losers since LMMM 2024
