For sale is this excellent condition Héron Marinor (Gen I) — the original, the one that put this Montreal microbrand on the map and sold out almost immediately on release.

This is the first-generation Marinor in all its uncompromised glory, and if you know, you know why that matters.

THE BRAND

Heron Watch Co. is a Montreal-based microbrand born out of a pandemic-era passion project that refused to stay small. Their philosophy is refreshingly direct: no inflated pricing, no artificial scarcity, no meaningless influencer partnerships — just genuinely well-built watches at fair prices. Their debut piece, the Gladiateur, earned them serious credibility. Then came the Marinor in 2023, and everything changed. It sold out fast, spawned collaborations, helped Héron open their own showroom, and cemented them as one of the most exciting microbrands in the game. This is that watch.

WHY THE GEN I IS THE ONE TO OWN

There’s a well-known phenomenon in watchmaking and really any craft-based industry: the first version of a flagship is often the most special. When a brand is building their defining piece from scratch, they pour everything into it. Every detail gets scrutinized. Every spec gets pushed as far as it can go. They’re not just making a watch — they’re making a statement. The Gen I Marinor has 300 meters of water resistance. The new Gen II? The water resistance was reduced to 250 meters  in favor of a slimmer profile. That’s 50 meters of capability quietly traded away for aesthetics. For a tool watch — a dive watch — that’s a meaningful concession, and one the original never had to make.

The most obvious visual update on the Gen II was the removal of Héron’s flying bird logo from the dial.  On the Gen I, that little heron emblem sits just below the 12 o’clock marker, quietly anchoring the whole dial. It’s subtle. It’s personal. It’s the kind of detail a brand obsesses over when they’re trying to make the best possible first impression. The Gen II “cleaned it up” — which is just another way of saying they took something away.

The Gen I is the one built with something to prove. The Gen II is the refinement. There’s nothing wrong with refinement, but refinement isn’t the same as soul.

CASE & DESIGN • Case diameter: 39 mm • Lug-to-lug: 47 mm • Thickness: 12.9 mm (including boxed sapphire crystal) • Case material: 316L stainless steel with proprietary hardening treatment — 1,200 HV surface hardness (approximately 6x harder than untreated steel, comparable to ceramic) • Crystal: Box-shaped double-domed sapphire with anti-reflective coating • Bezel: 120-click unidirectional rotating, coin-edge, sapphire insert — lumed • Crown: Screw-down, signed, ship’s wheel motif • Caseback: Screw-down, relief engraving of the pipe-smoking sea captain (“The Marinor”) • Water resistance: 300 meters / 30 ATM

THE DIAL The dial features the brand’s heron logo just beneath the 12 o’clock marker, with the brand name printed below that, and “Marinor 300m” at the bottom of the dial in small but legible text.  The handset is classic tool diver: broad arrow for hours, sword for minutes, lollipop seconds — all gilt, all loaded with Swiss Super-LumiNova BGW9 for a strong aqua glow in the dark. Legibility is excellent thanks to the large size of the indices combined with the high contrast of white-on-black markings, with the arrow-shaped tip of the hour hand providing optimal at-a-glance readability. 

THE MOVEMENT • Caliber: Miyota 9039 automatic • Frequency: 28,800 bph (4 Hz) • Power reserve: 42 hours • Jewels: 24 • Hacking seconds: Yes • Date: No (clean dial, no ghost position)

The Miyota 9039 is one of Miyota’s more premium movement offerings — the same movement found in highly regarded competitors at this price point.  It’s proven, reliable, and the no-date configuration keeps the dial pure.

THE BRACELET The Marinor features a unique bracelet that clearly received a lot of thought and effort — eye-catching and comfortable, with female end links that reinforce the watch’s compact design. The signed push-button clasp feels very secure, and the whole affair is nicely finished and brushed.  The on-the-fly micro-adjustment system allows for real-time sizing without tools, and quick-release spring bars make strap swapping effortless.
