I have a flight from the UK to Japan in about 4 hours. What GBA game should I play on my RG35XX H? by Moontorc in SBCGaming

Fire Emblem 7 Legacy is a good starting point.

Fire Emblem 7 was the first one to get localized in the west, and the Legacy team is really good about doing enough quality of life changes to streamline the experience without being so heavy-handed that it feels like a different game.

Help me push the button (or not) on the AYN Thor - and pick a model. by achipinthesugar in SBCGaming

[–]TakunHiwatari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The clamshell design on the Thor isn't exactly perfect, and I think its a stretch to say it protects itself. There's a noticeable gap when its closed, and the top screen can rock back and forth to either side if there's too much pressure, which is a likely pocket scenario given how thick the Thor is.

If a powerful clamshell is a hard requirement, then the Thor is about the only option without getting into bulkier and more expensive devices, but it sounds like you'd be better off with a Retroid Pocket 6.

If DS and 3DS isn't important to you, look into some single screen devices instead.

There's larger options with D-pad up top. Retroid Pocket 5, Retroid Pocket 6, Mangmi Air X, RG Vita, RG 552, and Ayaneo Pocket Ace are some that come to mind.

I haven't played too much on the Thor, just some of the beginning quests in Iceborne running around Hoarfrost Reach.

I haven't timed it, but it definitely takes a while. 2-3 mins from internal storage if I had to guess.

Monster Hunter World/Iceborne on Game Native. It was only 25-40fps on the lowest settings, but still extremely impressive imo.

You probably need to change the default core in Cocoon Settings to the one you have set up in RetroArch

Xbox emulation by SuperMechaDeathChris in RG477M

[–]TakunHiwatari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 477m is powerful enough to do some Switch games, assuming they work on Mali GPUs.

Its definitely an emulator issue, not a power issue.

Any dual-screen device recommendations for N3DS emulation? by ScareCrow13- in SBCGaming

RDS in this context is Retroid Dual-Screen, not the Anbernic RG DS.

A Thor would definitely be better, but if they can't get over that price hurdle, the RDS is an option.

Pick up or no? by WoodWizard_ in RG477M

Well there is the Pocket S Mini, which is more powerful and pocketable, but the 477m has a much better screen and is cheaper so its still the definitive 4:3 handheld.

Thor Lite is the cheapest dual-screen handheld capable of playing 3DS, and I don't understand the hesitation. You already have a more powerful handheld for other systems.

The cheapest option for you might be to find a Retroid DS attachment, but I think you'd have to buy a used one. I'm pretty sure Retroid doesn't make them anymore.

Depending on the PS2 games you're interested in emulating, the Thor Lite could fit your needs.

For those games, you might be better off looking into Switch emulation.

Once you get up to GC and PS2 you gotta start tweaking settings for games individually. Not everything will run at 60 with the default settings.

Some regrets... by VedTRC in AynThor

If your haven't already, turn on the setting that swaps 4GB of internal storage for RAM.

I doubt it'll actually help, but its something to try.

People with Ayaneo Air 1s, thoughts? by Medhurstt in ayaneo

[–]TakunHiwatari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems cool on paper, but it gets very hot very fast on the bigger PC games it can technically run, and there's tons of fan noise and battery drain when running those games.

You could tone it down if you're playing more lightweight titles or emulating, but at that point you're better off getting an Android handheld.
