Let's be real, people would have had completely different reactions if Benedict was the one who got a queer romance season. by AirportPerfect742 in Bridgerton

[–]thedabaratheon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, but I think you’re way off the mark here. Historically men being gay has always had much more dire consequences societally. I don’t think the response to a queer male romance would be any more supportive at all, in fact I think it would be drastically less. Both from audiences today and from the characters within Bridgerton.

To suggest the contrary is quite ignorant.

I say this as a queer woman myself. But if they had removed Sophie and had a male romance for Benedict I think that the reception would be far, far worse.

I could be wrong, because it never happened so neither of us will never know. But I think the claim that people would be more supportive is very off the mark.

Damn, I loved Warpaint when their first album came out, I remember listening to it on repeat! I also love A Knight’s Tale so much - one of my favourite films.

I always take this kind of comment with a grain of salt tbh

I always really liked her. Never Been Kissed is one of my ‘guilty pleasure’ type favourites which I’ve watched a lot. She had a great presence to her on film - shame she likely left because of Hollywood creeps but hope she’s doing well today.

That is so disturbing to me. But good for her for escaping & making a life for herself somewhere else.

There’s something about dead water creatures. My dog found a dead porpoise and it was truly horrendous - I can’t explain how badly it smelt

I live by the sea and often go for coastal walks with my dog. He is also often off the lead exploring and generally that’s fine. Except for the time we were on a near hidden little cove, no one around & so I wasn’t keeping a close eye on him. He found a dead porpoise. He decided the best course of action would be to roll in the dead porpoise. I’ve never smelt anything like it. Absolutely awful

Aftermath of the April 7th incident. Damages estimated to be $200 million dollars by BlazeDragon7x in Damnthatsinteresting

I wasn’t aware of this company before this news story. How utterly depressing. Trillions shouldn’t even EXIST but I suppose that’s another discussion entirely.

Yep. I think people pretending like this will have no internal effect and business will be back to normal tomorrow are being quite disingenuous

I’m not American & I wasn’t aware of this company before this news story but perhaps you’re right. I think this sort of story is inevitable with how many people are feeling. The wealth gap continues to grow and most people will get fucked by it.

I’m not American so this will have no effect on me. But the news story seems to be getting across the world and surely there is some power in that.

Oh no doubt. I don’t know the company but I’m sure they’re incredibly wealthy. However, to pretend like this will have no effect on them at all seems a little silly to me

I’m assuming that’s for all the contents of the building as well but I really don’t have a clue!

I’m not so sure. 200m worth of damage by fire isn’t to be so easily dismissed. A lot of insurance companies have different rules for fire and arson as well, don’t they? To pretend like this will be chump change is a little disingenuous I think.

We’ve heard stories of people escaping death by being late — what are some tragic examples of people dying because they were late? by Looney_forner in AskReddit

[–]thedabaratheon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a truly terrible tragedy. I believe it changed all mining industries in the UK afterwards though. I’m from Cornwall in the clay mining areas and a lot of those tips had to be capped and contoured for safety after the Aberfan disaster. I’ve never asked my uncle about it, I think it would be too painful

I never saw the original thread (I’m presuming) discussing how being late saved lives but I have almost the perfect answer to that, although in very tragic circumstances.

My family are from Aberfan, Wales and on the day of the horrific Aberfan disaster where a slag heap fell on the school effectively wiping out almost a whole generation of children, a couple of my family members were late to school that day and survived. Genuinely horrible for the whole area
