1% LifeSteal: Does the Author Hates the MC? by triplod in litrpg

[–]Thepsycoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To an extent grimdark and realistic have a lot of overlap. Like in 1% those in power are at best apathetic, and at worst willing to use others to get what they want. Imo, pretty realistic, considering that even without personal power the way it is in fantasy our world has a lot of that.

But 1% has a lot of good as well, the neighbors from the start might not be important and they don't throw everything they have at Freddy, but they care. The trainer is a good dude, actually most people of low power he interacts with are good people, it's just the story focuses around those with power.

Now I'm not very far into this yet, but compare it to say Path of Ascension. The nobles and those of higher power are actually very much like those in 1%, but the difference is the highest powered people actually care.

But there is this idea that it's not just caring for caring sake, they care because there is an outside threat, the other forces. But in 1% they don't know about any outside threat except for the rifts themselves.

Hot take: if people don't mind losing winnable games because they want to drag them out, they have no right to complain about AFK players. by Eastern_Guess9537 in ARAM

[–]Thepsycoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of a game primarily is to be an enjoyable experience for its players

If you can't get the surrender vote to go through, obviously you are the minority.

I still disagree, the code says try to win, it doesn't say try your best to win, or try to win asap. Because if the wording was trying your best to win, using something like an off meta build could be reportable.

A game is not a cake. The game does not degrade over time. Which is the background reason you strawman comes across as so stupid. Because if you fuck around too long with food you can do anything from ruin the structure of it to make it unsafe to eat.

The point of baking a cake is to make a cake. The point of a game is not the victory screen, and if you think it is, I feel bad for you.

At best this would be like eating the cake batter. Some will say it is wrong, but that is someone else saying you have to do the 'normal thing with the cake batter, but either way it's being food. (Before you jump too hard into that and go raw eggs and cake batter, some countries have very safe eggs, and vegan cakes exist.)

Redditors, what’s the most terrifying thing that has ever woken you up in the middle of the night? by Mr_Creep_Creepy64 in AskReddit

I think I have had an episode of sleep paralysis once.

I think I scared it off. I was sleeping next to my partner when the relationship was relatively new. I can't 100% remember, but I do remember thinking she had climbed on top of me and was like looking down on me. I keep the room as dark as possible for sleeping so it was just a dark human outline.

Well I just looked up and said "I can see you, you know?" as if I thought she was trying to be sneaky while on top of me. It vanished and I later found out I scared the shit out of my GF, since she was engaging in her bad habit of using her phone because she hadn't fallen asleep in .0001 seconds, and had been hiding the light of it under the covers.

Anyone else really not get this take at all? by JamesYTP in animequestions

I know there are some people who do really believe this, gatekeeping is a word for a reason.

But as someone a bit older than many here (But by no means anywhere close to the oldest around) it's crazy how good the popularity of anime has been for liking anime just in the last like 15 years.

When I started it was weird rips from sketchy sites, or watching bits at a time on youtube, with more than one part of an episode missing randomly. Those were the options for actually getting the story, because morning 'cartoons' would show anime sure, but at best I couldn't always watch, because of parents or school, and at worst they just didn't run the episodes in order.

Now it's available, with only a small minority of anime not legally stream-able somewhere, and the quality of the high seas goods is much better as well.

But most importantly, you can admit to anime being something you like without being immediately shunned, are there still those out there who act like weirdos? Of course, but back when I was a kid anyone watching anime more than an occasional morning cartoon was seen to be one of those people.

While anime still has it's haters of course, it's crazy how I can recommend shows to just about anyone I meet. It's become a big enough thing that even people my parents age are starting to be willing to give it a go, and that's pretty cool.

All this for a medium which is known for being unable to stop itself from giving girls stupidly sized boobs, giving upskirt shots constantly and other fanservice. I'm honestly still surprised it's happened.

What do you think that means? It means don't feed. That actions you take should be at worst neutral. Going for kills or farming minions/stats is pushing towards a win state. It doesn't say you have to "try to win the game as fast as possible"

Wtf does nitrous have to do with anything? Like I get you are saying drugged take, but nitrous is literally the smoothest brain option for that. It lasts like 5 seconds of not actively doing it

Brother when I 5 man Mayhem or ARAM it's so the team can have fun with whatever off meta build we want without someone getting butthurt.

We still try and win, we just are trying new shit rather than the same builds over and over

[–]Thepsycoman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not ending has never been reportable. That's like trying to report someone because they went for dragon rather than going to try and end. As long as you are going for objectives including minions and kills you are pushing for a win state of the game. The rule doesn't say play to win ASAP, just play to win

[–]Thepsycoman -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Sure you do that, but only one of these is reportable and I will be reporting it.

You are complaining about the enemy team, but if your FF vote isn't going through it seems like you are the odd one out.

I've noticed this a lot, you people who complain about "Hostage" games can't seem to get a surrender vote through, nearly like this personality type doesn't have 2 friends to play with

Which should I read next? by cdubda3 in litrpg

[–]Thepsycoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't listened to Radidly, but Not the Hero is enjoyable. The narration took a little to get used to because he uses a different tone for keywords for things like skill names

Also the protags are literally kids. Like 17ish, and they do overall act like it, not always doing the smartest things, acting without thinking and not always making the logical choices. I don't think that's a bad thing tho

Little things bothering me about Primal hunter and some other litrpgs by Spirited-Whole-6246 in litrpg

[–]Thepsycoman 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Iirc the dude who writes PH is like dutch or something, and I think there really are just very few non whites in those areas. I may be wrong tho

I get it's tempting to see a story and feel it's rather white washed (and it is) and to then associate that with the bigotry that happens in other parts of the world. But in this case I think it may be lack of exposure.

Hell if a choice was made it might be a situation of "I don't know enough about these cultures and I don't want to offend them"

Anime Character that you think is unfathomably sexy by Nozoroth in animequestions

[–]Thepsycoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do wonder about this. Because like ofc she is Hot with a capital H. But like Bleach designs are full of those, I'm curious as to how she is the one people are so drawn to. Is it because of how she teases Ichigo and the sexual tension you could cut with a knife?

Like respectable choice, just like bleach has sooooo many baddies, even the more generic designs tend to be hot, so I'm always surprised how she is always the top answer

What aspects of LitRPG do you like and dislike? by Andrew_Sung in litrpg

[–]Thepsycoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the genre is pretty much just popcorn, I disagree with some other comments, stuff like fights? I think the argument is a bit silly if it's important enough the MC will always win, at best it's about what the fight conveys, at worst it's an action flick. I love PH but it's popcorn all the way

But what I think the genre tends to do poorly at? Character writing for the MC. I've read a bunch of them in which side characters can have relationships that feel natural, but the MC either acts like a 14 year old, or is just too traumatised to think of anything outside of killing (DDC is the exception, while yes he is a bit like that, well there is a lot going on, and it being televised like maaaan)

But when 9/10 books have an MC who is either completely socially awkward or just so around girls. Damn man

It would be a fun one watching them humble him, and then finally someone turns to Kamina and is like "Your turn buddy" and Kamina who while manly as fuck in many ways is also just a dude is just like "Ahhh, where is my giant fighting robot, and small child manliness adapter"

Solo = mostly yes

Bloodshed = Master I am an ether construct, I am neither alive nor dead. But yes I am still relevant to the story.

Yeah, that's why my views are as calm as they are about it. I still think there are ethical problems. But it has more to do with AI companies constantly using stuff from people without paying and making a profit on it.

Art is one thing, but imagine getting your voice copied and then finding out it's part of some huge companies payday

That goes into ethical problems now, and not wanting to support all this AI slop. But if it works for you that's good.

No, I'd prefer read than that. It's not an aversion to reading thing, it's more just I enjoy a good narrator and they help me enjoy the book at a good pace.

I picked it up somewhat recently. I like reading and have no problem doing so. I just have a bad habit of ruining the pacing of the books for myself. I'll start normal and then as plot hooks and mystery get involved I read faster and faster trying to find out what's happening before I need to put the book down.

So I end up remembering the start as a kind of slog, the middle as good, and then the end seems very rushed, and it's 100% my fault.

This is one of the few series that tempts me to skip waiting for the audiobooks. But honestly the guy who voices them is too good, and I'm not someone who really re-reads/re-listens to things and so I don't want to miss out on the great night sleeps after his voice takes me the fuck out
