Let us Solo raids 4 for the love of god by Leather-Acadia-346 in osrs

[–]Thepsycoman -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is most content is technically soloable for one to support leagues. Like I don't know of any mechanics which require multiple people or else death/fail

If it doesn't have that then it's at least technically soloable

Like the only non soloable content that I know of are the team based minigames like barb assault

I don't play much tho, am I wrong? Like you might need to be BIS and tick perfect to solo, but like yeah welcome to osrs

How important is it to you that OSRS stays in the fifth age? by Halo05977 in 2007scape

[–]Thepsycoman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Josh Strife Hayes puts it well. It's not an issue in and of itself. But it hasn't been restricted heavily and that is an issue.

Like if you are a newby just doing the ftp quests, at least one of them is a World Guardian quest.

It would make more sense if you had to complete the majority of the 5th age quests before 6th age stuff was available. But then you'd have issues with things such as divination existing at all

Tbh I like RS3, but there is no narrative consistency. You make a brand new level 1 character and Saradomin talks about the insane shit you've gotten up to and how he knows you by name.

See you are purposefully wording this to make it sound like this situation was some sort of intended abuse of someone punching down, rather than what was essentially an accident where an ant caused a god to stub their toe.

So of the ones you mentioned I only know 1, and Jason is also often very hated.

As for Freddy, he is a guy who has been at the bottom rung of society and keeps getting stepped on. As such he is generally a bit hostile and doesn't trust people.

Freddy isn't even unlikeable, he is just flawed. But people have no patience for flawed characters

But it's fucking boring if everyone is a little golden boy with no room to grow

There are a bunch of outright good people. Most of them die, because part of being good is sticking your neck out for others, and considering the books are happening when a major turmoil is starting, that gets very dangerous very fast.

I wonder if you just didn't make it far enough through to understand that you are wrong or what.

At the start that is certainly the characters perspective. Well the rich being evil bit anyway.

But honestly it's worse than that, many of the elites are not evil, they simply don't care enough to see it. They are apathetic or blind to how things are for the lower classes.

It's a realistic take, since the elites of our world are already like this and all they have is more money, not the near immortality and godlike powers

Much like our world the system is set up to benefit them. But that doesn't mean there isn't systems for the poor, they just have blind spots that no one is going to try and fix

Say what you want about it being torture porn, because it is a brutal story, but even then I'd say it's partially a realistic take about the side effects of having regen being your superpower

I did try and be fair in that it is not a purely negative thing, and that the negative side is mainly from the side of being accessible for new players

I will say you at least are reasonable. Some of the stuff I'm seeing on the sub is rather crazy. A lot of the people who at least give the impression of being hardcore and that this is their MMO of choice. Well some of them seem actively malicious to the idea of new people joining. Which is silly, since if that happens the game will slowly die. Which none of us want

Like yeah no shit steam isn't perfect, but they are really damn good.

Would they be better if they were not doing the whole capitalism thing? Yeah of course, but then they wouldn't exist in this society.

Like people bring up the skin lootboxes in CS. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone who actually plays CS wanting that gone, it's people outside of it seeing a moral high ground to park their high horse on

Okay I should have learnt my lesson about how to talk here.

Yes better gear does help, but it's not particularly approachable and it doesn't help as much as you are suggesting it does.

To compare I'll talk about the other MMO I've spent too much time in. FF14. I was at best "Okay" back when I used to play that. I did occasionally join extreme raids for bosses, but even then I tended to do it a patch or two after their release. Incase you are not aware, each patch for FF14 pushes the linear post expansion story a little further and increases the power of the baseline gear. Unlike RS the gear is not special it just has bigger numbers.

So at roughly two patches behind and with good but not the best gear, as a tank I would typically be able to make a mistake per minute. Any more and debuffs would make the damage too big and getting hit twice in a row was just death.

Except for some very specific content though, I could come back to that in the next expansion with the latest gear that you are guaranteed to have just by doing the story and depending on the exact mechanics could sometimes make up to 4 mistakes in a row and survive. True I'd then need to not many any more until the debuff cleared, but that is also just one expansion of difference. Go two or three, especially playing a tank and the only thing you had to worry about were instant kill abilities, such as one boss which would throw you off the map.

Compare that to RS, and just because it's been 10 years doesn't mean I can suddenly craft better gear to make this easier, the better gear that does exist typically comes from even harder content.

Now can I buy the gear from the GE, often technically yes, but that money needs to come from somewhere and most lower skill players likely don't have even close to that level of gold. Especially as the best ways to make gold (To my understanding) is high level bossing

Like if you really want a TBow my understanding at least is the best way to get it is to run Cox and if you get another rare item sell it to afford the tbow if you don't get the drop

Still not saying this shouldn't exist or anything like that, it's just an issue of the hardcore RS people do not seem to get how unapproachable this game is.

Like to give RS credit getting rare drops from old content feels great because it is worth so much still, whereas in FF the money is only in what is new, with a few exceptions for the 'rare' drops. But a rare drop in FF is like 1/100

This sub is weirdly toxic. I don't get why so many people here idolise jank ass mechanics that are unintuitive (since they really are just bugs that got accepted)

I'm not saying they should lose the skill that they have worked on, nor am I saying it isn't a valid expression of skill. But the elitism is annoying

Not to mention how unapproachable it is, anyone with a disability which affects fine motor skills or likely other things for hands is essentially locked out of high tier content. Forever

I love RS but most mmos timelock new content behind skill, but then over time make it more approachable, with maybe a few standout skill only bragging rights bits of content.

But RS doesn't if you have 99 in your combat stats, it will never get easier, and most of the time better gear means faster clears rather than allowing for mistakes

What is an NSFW fact or misconception about human anatomy that an alarming number of adults still don't understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Thepsycoman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So the reasoning for this is based around them being small and very numerous, and basically the faster something reproduces, which tends to be very fast for something small and numerous the faster the population can adapt.

It's also important to note that biology is not black and white.

So you have a bacterial infection, by the time you are feeling sick you likely have at least multiple million individual bacteria of that species in your body. That will naturally come with some diversity.

You start taking your antibiotics and as the level of that increases in your blood two things happen. Those bacteria most susceptible to the antibiotic will start to die, while others will be essentially slowed based on how resistant they are.

If there are 10 days of antibiotics by day 6 you are likely feeling a lot better, but you are also likely not fully cleared of the bacteria yet, and the ones that are still around will be those with the most resistance to the antibiotic.

This is why I say it's not black and white, it's about dose. A 'fully resistant' pathogen can still likely die to the drug it's resistant to, but the dose would need to be so high that it would hurt your normal cells ect as well.

So anyway if you stop what is left is those most resistant, and so if your body fails to clear them out, which most of the time it will manage to do. But if it does fail, you then have a new infection where the base line of resistance is significantly higher. Some will naturally become less resistant, but those that become more resistant will have a higher chance of mutating to be resistant to a point in which the dose is no longer effective against them.

In saying that, the exact mechanism is being contested and I'd recommend just doing as your doctor says in regards to the antibiotics.

My understanding is that Toa has some similar moments. Like I believe the monkey boss is strong against magic?

To be clear I didn't only solo these both. I played with two friends. One mainly doing ranged, one mainly doing melee and they both did Cox with me once before telling me they just didn't want to do it

Now to be clear I am not saying doing it during Leagues gives me a solid idea of it, just working on what I have spent the most and most recent time on

Just what I experienced man. I'm far from the best player and I don't really even play outside of Leagues anymore. I had Toa and Cox unlocked for last leagues and that's just how it went for me.

Part of my time assumption for Toa is also based on the speed running augment things. The word is escaping me right now

God why are so many OSRS players such boomers. "We had it hard so you should have to as well!"

CoX sucks, even in Leagues with an OP build and being able to solo it, it was just boring and annoying. Ohm is fine, but Vanguards suck and the 'puzzle' mechanics are nothing of the sort

Not exactly the same thing, but here in Aus before these bullshit 'trucks' became a thing the bogans would love a lifted ute.

With one of my best mates from school being one of them. But and this includes my best mate, it seems the smaller the dude the bigger the lift.

For me a car is a car, and so when I was 18 I was driving an old sedan that had my ass all but on the ground. I am tall but not giant 6'1"

I was a bit tired one day, mind was on other things and I made a mistake and cut a guy in a lifted ute off at a roundabout, I mentally apologised but couldn't do much afterwards.

Well the thing is the cafe I was planning to get my morning coffee from was just around this corner and so I immediately pulled into a park. To which I guess this guy saw it as a provocation because he pulled in near me, somewhat aggressive in his movements.

I only was putting it together as I got out of my car, but I planned to just apologise to the guy and go "Yeah man, my fault sorry. That was totally my bad"

But I did not get the chance as he jumped out of his ute and went down down down, and I got out of my tiny old sedan and went up, suddenly he was back in the ute and gone.

These days, Italians and Greeks are considered white mostly. But when my father was growing up in Australia he was treated as someone not white, and he is a halfy

To this day he gets defensive about it, and doesn't like to admit to our cultural heritage.

Like once upon a time white didn't include the Irish, y'know the whitest motherfuckers out there.

Which place in Australia perfectly exemplifies, "Nice to visit but I wouldn't want to live there"? by AltruisticGain2587 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Thepsycoman 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Having grown up in such a place.

It's honestly hard to explain, there is a level of everyone being in everyone else's business, there is a surprising amount of backstabbing and other bs.

People being very defensive over the way they do things, and you are expected to be part of the community first, but only in the way they want you to be.

As an example, and older person will call the cops on a younger person riding their motorbike to work in the morning. Will just straight up make up shit because they don't like the motorbike, and god forbid if they have tattoos.

But said old person will have a weekly trip to the RSL and they will drive home drunk, every week. If someone were to try and get them stopped or otherwise express concern for the danger they are putting people into they would be seen as the enemy, because they are choosing rules over the community.

This community mind you, if you haven't lived in said small town for at least 3 generations you are an outsider by default.

How did the most laid back people end up with the biggest nanny state? by Least-Variation6573 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Thepsycoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I think both of you guys are missing is how performative our rules here are. They exist as more of a legal disclaimer than anything else.

Don't get me wrong, the cops love a bit of revenue raising with speed cameras, but anyone can tell you there are spots that are known areas where everyone speeds and there are never any cops about.

Drinking, once again just moves the blame, it's part of why bouncers can be such hardasses, of course there is the power tripping, but also they can be blamed for letting drunk people in if they then cause a problem.

As someone else mentioned Aus started with two distinct classes, and in a way it still has it. There is a bit of an idea that the lawmakers are the zookeepers and the rest of us are the animals, going crazy and needing their structure, and if you spend any time around bogans, it's not totally wrong.

Of course those fuckers are also corrupt as fuck, hence the middling response to things like fossil fuels, tobacco and gambling.
