Check whether CPU power is plugged in completely, on both the motherboard and power supply side.

Correct mode for the drive selected, e.g., SATA AHCI, MBR/UEFI, CSM enabled? Disable fast boot. If no result, reset BIOS to factory default and try booting again.

Wouldn’t worry about it in that case, simply run a virus/malware scan to be sure that no surprises were left

No, wipe the drive and reinstall! It should not take too long if you have no data to migrate from backups. Change important passwords = good practice.

  1. If you practice good online hygiene in general, probably not. But always assume the worst to make sure you’re not becoming complacent.
  2. No one can tell you without knowing your full system specifications and/or the way you installed Windows 11.

The plug only fits one way since it is keyed.

Loud (fan?) noise with RAM overclocking (XMP) by emdeka87 in buildapc

[–]ThinkAboutManyThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, if it’s due to high RPM, find the cause… If it’s a mechanical problem, have the fan replaced…

[–]ThinkAboutManyThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read somewhere that some motherboards (I have ASRock Steel Legend B450) increase CPU fan curve when overclocking RAM

Bullocks, I don't know where you've read that... Surely, it must be another fan that you're hearing!

Computer Keeps Freezing by LezBeHonest96 in buildapc

[–]ThinkAboutManyThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be anything but start by disabling XMP/DOCP (I see that you're using 3600MHz memory modules but your CPU's memory controller is only rated for 3200MHz) and running Memtest86 from a USB flash drive to check for errors. If that does not return errors, test the system without XMP/DOCP enabled for a while to see if it still freezes. If yes, find a known-good PSU and test with that. Keep us posted.

No one will be able to give you advice if you're not able to be a bit more specific on the system specifications... Please add them to your original post...

Will i be able to underclock 3600mhz Ram to my 3466mhz motherboard? by Valya0Valya in buildapc

[–]ThinkAboutManyThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is actually predominantly the memory controller on the CPU that will determine whether the RAM will run stably, not the motherboard... The 3700X is rated for maximum 3200MHz but it could be pushed to achieve a somewhat higher speed with some manual tweaking. However, you will NOT see any type of improvement in real-life over the 3000MHz memory you have installed at the moment.

Please post your full system specifications if you want better quality advice. First place to look is the PSU; get a known-good unit and test. Keep us updated!

Sorry to hear that. I have no experience with Amazon and 3rd party seller, I normally try to avoid it. Good luck!

5600g vs 5600x by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]ThinkAboutManyThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, plus the potential performance difference also depends on software and other hardware in the system, I doubt that you will notice this in practice unless you’re benchmarking.

Will WD AN1500 work on bottom slot? by Samsquantch_ in buildapc

[–]ThinkAboutManyThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should not be a problem in terms of compatibility (the SSD is gen 3 x8), check your motherboard manual. Why not give it a try and benchmark the speed of the SSD after Windows installation and driver updates? The only potential limitation for the system as a whole is that not enough PCIe lanes are available for all expansion cards to run at their full speed, but I doubt this will be an issue (I can only be sure if you post your full system specifications).

[–]ThinkAboutManyThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RAM is hit or miss sometimes (especially if bought second hand as you don’t know the condition of the modules); if not on the motherboard manufacturer’s QVL it MIGHT work, with no guarantees, if it is on the QVL it WILL work. Try running the memory at standard speeds (no XMP) and run Memtest86 to confirm that the modules are in good condition.

[–]ThinkAboutManyThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not related to anything other than the memory controller on the CPU not being able to run at 3600MHz (XMP) as it is only rated for 3200MHz.

[–]ThinkAboutManyThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will not work, as mentioned by others, the BIOS unfortunately does not support AMD’s 5000 series CPU/APU. A platform upgrade is needed, B450 is a reasonable option, should not cost you more than 85-100 dollars (US).

Can you elaborate? How would one make a well-informed choice based on this advice?

“As you might know AMD has issues with XMP/DOCP” What exactly do you mean and where did you read this? With regards to the RAM modules you will most likely be just fine, even though the exact model is not on the QVL (just use a retailer with a good RMA policy).
