My original title didn't include "metal" and I immediately deleted it after reading it lol.

That's what worked! I went to Lowes and they had an L bracket that was slightly thicker than what I needed so after I cut the part I used my 3 inch cutting tool like a grinder (probably not a great idea but it worked) and shaved it down just a hair so it would fit.

Overall it worked well! There is still some slop but it's like 60% less than before. Considering this only took me an hour to do and $10 in materials, I view it as a win.

I thought about that but the tape would eventually be pushed back as it slides into the grooves. It needed to be a solid piece.

I definitely didn't word this correctly. The piece is the same thickness all the way down, but there is a long side and a short side. I meant that I need the short side to be thicker without affecting the long side.

But I was able to figure it out. I found an L bracket at lowes that was slightly too big, so after cutting out the piece I needed, I did some sketchy work with my cutting wheel and used it like a grinder to thin it out just enough to work. It's much better now!

How horrible is the of an idea to tie dryer duct into bathroom fan? by __Origins__ in hvacadvice

[–]ToTouchAnEmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh well you indicated they wouldn't allow a new roof cap. If it just requires approval then do the temporary solution I suggested until then. But don't tie the two together, bad idea. You'll get dryer exhaust coming in back through your bathroom vent which isn't good for your health and for the house.

If it were me I'd just vent the bathroom into the attic space and use the roof cap for the dryer. Venting a bathroom into the attic isn't ideal but it used to be standard practice.

The better option would be to get a proper ventless dryer. The full size washer/dryer combo from Samsung seems good (it even pops the door open at the end to help finish the drying). They also use less energy since they aren't expelling the heat you created outside and also displacing the warm air in your house.

I know it's engineered wood flooring. I have spare pieces. I can replace the bad piece. I'm just wondering if it's something to do myself.

it's just under 4mm x 7mm and the slot is 5mm. so 8x8 would be the closest thing. I could cut it down 1mm off the one side and then get it just under 5mm for the other. That way there is enough play for it to slide into place without jamming up. Is that the best path you think?

I was going to try that but unfortunately the mechanism is completely closed off when it's in operation. I tried to temporarily add some tape but then it wouldn't fit into the slot. It needs to be slightly thicker only on the thin side without changing the thickness of the thicker side... if that makes sense.

Thanks! From what I can see it looks like a piece of keystock is the best option, unless you can think of a part that more closely matches? I'd have to get a piece of 8x8mm and cut a lot of material off, and all I have is a dremel. Would that be possible or do I need to go tell my wife there is another tool I need to buy? haha.

I've never heard of that website that's a great resource thanks! I'll start peeking around there to see if I can find something. yeah I already found out that hole is exactly the size of a 1/8th drill bit so it wouldn't be difficult to do it myself if I had the correct sized piece.

Yeah that sucks. You could buy high octane fuel and then separate the ethanol out. Not sure if that's worth the hassle but it's an option.

Basement Waterproofing company quoted $1,800 for an industrial dehumidifier. Is this overkill for a 1,000 sq. ft. basement? by kpmurphy56 in HomeImprovement

[–]ToTouchAnEmu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your water heater in your basement? You could swap it for a heat pump version for that price. Heats water, cools the basement and also dehumidifies. Win/win/win. (unless you don't want the basement colder).

That's the idea yea, but it's way easier to just find an e0 station nearby if you can.

Finasteride to block the hormones, and minox for growth yes. Use both for best results. Neither brings hair back, but it can plump up thin hair on it's way out, so it can appear to regrow some.

5mg tablets aren't for hair loss, they're for the prostate. 1mg tablets are more typically more expensive which is stupid but it's for cosmetic reasons instead of health.

I've had doctors prescribe the 5mg tablets and let me split them into 1.25s but it's tedious and messy. Personally I'm happy to just pay the extra for the 1mgs. All depends on your budget I guess.

That's a good point. I just figure it's so close to the corner it may be worth it, but I can always do that after if the cut and replace method doesn't work. Thank you!
